This thread will be used to provide official support for ASUS Z68 chipset motherboards. Share your experience, tips tricks and place support/technical queries in this thread please. :)


BIOS 0501 is due to go up soon, this will be for all current Z68 motherboards (P8Z68-V, Pro, Deluxe).

The fix-list is as follows.

1. Update RAID OPROM to version 10.5.0.1034 to enable the support of Intel Rapid Storage Technology version 10.5.0.1026
2. Allow adjustment of Turbo Ratio for the K series CPU regardless of the status of the C-STATE option.

Note: For proper operation, please ensure to update Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to version 10.5.0.1026 before enabling Intel Smart Response Technology.
Update procedure for users needing Intel Smart Response Technology:

(1) Enter OS, and ensure Intel Smart Response Technology has been turned off under Intel Rapid Storage Technology interface.
(2) Install version Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to version 10.5.0.1026.
(3) Reboot the system, and update BIOS to version 0501, then reboot.
(5) Enter the BIOS setup screen, press F5 to load BIOS default, then change the Intel SATA Port to RAID mode.
(4) Boot into OS, and re-enable Intel Smart Response Technology under Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

I just installed this board very nice so far. Although:

1) I tried to install Lucid and I get an error that says "no Intel HD sandy Bridge Graphic Family Device or driver was found set up will now exit". I have an I7-2600k so I am confused by this message.

2) I am also having a problem with "sleep" Monitors stay black upon wake and locks system locks.

3) Lastly, I am using an SSD for my boot drive and Intel RST labels it as not a boot volume, it lists my SATA III spinning drive as a boot drive even though it is not....could this be the problem with sleep? any insight into how to change this?

Also using the board. Installed 2 days ago and like it. Switched from a P8P67Dlx original and B2 and was not satisfied.
This P8Z68V pro is way better
 
Can't get AI Suite to install. It says it is installing and restarts the computer as it said it would. But I don't see it anywhere nor does it show up in the "Programs and Features" And yes, I upgraded my drivers (chipset etc.) as noted in the initial post in this thread.

Also-is the north bridge temperature listed in the bios, I only see CPU and motherboard. Does anyone know how I can monitor the North bridge(z68) temps?

Should be in a folder called ASUS the start menu under "all programs", did you see that folder?

I believe I am on version 0401 (not at home when replying-so cant check at the moment), the version that the board shipped with. I was reluctant to move to the beta as I had problems back when I had a P67....what do you suggest?

I am on Bios version 0401, confirmed.
 
just got my z68 up and running this weekend...easy install, no issues to speak of, everything went very smooth
 
Also, a weird thing is happening at boot. The computer spins up for 5 seconds, turns completely off for 5 seconds then starts up normally. Anyone ever experience this, is it a z68 thang?

It was initially a P67 thing - try clearing CMOS and enable "Power on by PCIe".

Thanks, I had the system mildly OC. Set everything back to auto with this problem, still having it. Good suggestion to clear CMOS, will try tonight. Whats the rationale behind power on by PCIe at boot? just asking, will try either way.

Its not really a double post, the screens never fire up. I had the double POST on the p67 and Z68 board already. I disabled the option rom in the BIOS for the Marvell and JMicron chips and that solved the double boot on the z68. There is nothing booting from those ports, no RAID, etc...

this is a misfire before POST. I have LED lights, basically the fans start spinning and the Fan LED come for a sec, screens remain in stand-by then all goes black again, fans stop spinning and then it restarts normally. Weird!:confused: I don't like it!:eek:

The beta fixes issues with Virtu and Intel RST with certain drives so give it a try if you are having problems. Also on the double-fire boot - is the BCLK at stock 100MHz?

thanks! I will check, at some point during OC it was up a bit, not sure it it went back to 100 after I switched back to auto settings. Wont a reset of the CMOS reset that as well. I will go though all when I get home tonight.

Raja-Are there any special considerations on the z68 for a BIOS flash? I know on the p67 there were very specific instructions and some boards bricked...just want to be sure.

Provided the system is stable, the BIOS flash should go fine.

WRT, the BIOS clearing BCLK to base 100MHz yes it should. Just in case, set it to 100 MHz flat (even an offset like 100.3 will cause a double-boot from AC cycle, it's just the way it needs to be done to ensure that offsetting BCLK from base works).

Interesting! from my memory I think that is exactly what the BCLK is, 100.3. did not think it would do that...this is what ASUS autotune set it too when I OC'ed. How come the board's own autotune (fast) set the BCLK to a level that is unstable?

It worked fine for a few hours and then crashed odd error screen for a second and then shut down. It was only overclocked to:

CPU 3.533Ghz 1.256V
RAM 1648 MHz 1.509V
PLL 1.79 V

Turbo limits seemed to see the biggest lift?! considering such a small OC I went back into the BIOS and put everything back to Auto. I was expecting more...

Also, does the BIOS report the northbridge temp?

PS would love to overclock, its my second build and first time getting involved with OC, but if the system is going to crash at 3.53, whats the point. Maybe the Bios update will help, no?

I feel the the p67 and z68 platform are very delicate, given all the problems I saw first with the bios problems on the p67 board and now hint of the same with the z68, although much improved...
 
Just checked and with AI overclock tuner set to auto BCLK does not appear. When temporarily switched to manual it was at 100.3. So in auto mode I dont know what its doing but it obviously went there during the autotune. So is there a problem with auto tune on the ASUS board?

Also, Just updated BIOS to 8801 and Lucid still wont install, same error!

ok, so which designer at ASUS decided to put the CMOS battery right under the GPU??????????? I had to pull out my graphics card just to be thorough when reseting the CMOS.

Any way I did notice that the speed of the chip prior to reset was 3.43 and not 3.40, so the BCLK mus have been over 100. Now that I have reset all and updated the BIOS the speed reads at 3.40 stock...I will see if I have any boot problems.

And Lucid Virtu will still not install????????

Again, I had to "disable" "oprom" for JMB and marvel and this has me boot smoothly into windows with out seeing the bios screen more than once.

Its a shame that I feel like I cant OC without destabilizing the system. As a newb to OC is there any advice? I welcome all...

Are you using a discrete GPU at the same time? If so, for Virtu, the iGPU Multi-Monitor support option has to be enabled in BIOS to allow the IGP to remain functional when add-on graphic cards are used.

I thought It needed to be dGPU, I am running display from the discreet card.

Enable I-GPU Multi-Monitor in BIOS please and let me know if that helps.

As for the overlcocking questions. Provided cooling is adequate the system should overclock without too much trouble. If you can list all AI Tweaker BIOS settings (including voltages) and all memory timings here, I will tell you what needs changing/setting to help you.

Ok, so I did everything everyone suggested, updated bios, clear CMOS (removed battery), enabled I-GPU, PLL overvolt disabled, spread spectrum enabled, etc.--and I still have the same false start at begining and Lucid will still not install...

Furthermore, take a look at the CPU specs below. It shows the current speed at 3437 MHz. I am at stock with all setting set to auto, after a clear CMOS, yet I am showing an overclock of 37MHz. While a tiny amount I cant help but think this is the cause of my false start at the boot. Clearly something is set higher than it should, is it the BLCK? I have the AI tweaker all at auto, whats going on here?

I Recently upgraded to the P8Z68-V Pro and have ran into a bizarre issue with the Intel SATA 2 ports/on-board raid controller. When I create a RAID set using 4 3TB Hitachi SATA3 hard drives (connecting them to the intel sata2 ports) the computer hard locks on me when the disk is idle, usually in 20-30 minutes. Curiously when I disconnect the Hitachi HD's the system is 100% stable (booting of a raid 0 raid volume on the sata3 intel ports). There is no overlocking going on, nothing fancy in the BIOS, the jmicron controller is disabled, the marvel controller has an optical drive connected to it and is loading its boot rom. I'm at a loss as to how to fix it...

All the latest available drivers are loaded. I have turned of write caching on the raid volume...used both the release & beta bios...no Intel RST installed...intel RST installed...version 10.1 and 10.5...RAID 5 or RAID 10...the computer locks up. If there are read/write operations going to the volume the PC is fine (I ran 15+ hour copy jobs to & from the RAID volume) but within 20 minutes of idle...it'll lock up the whole pc.

Any suggestions, ideas, insight would be greatly appreciated. I am currently running the 4 HD's as separate independent volumes to see if the system still locks up when there is no RAID volume...as I said, at a loss to explain this behavior other than scapegoating it on bad intel drivers, bad motherboard, or hardware incompatibility...

A couple of things spring to mind for you to try (10.5 RST is specific to Z68 so stick with this).

In BIOS, try enabling "hot swap" on the SATA ports that are connected to your RAID array hard drives.

If that has no effect, can you try disabling C3 and C6 in the CPU Configuration section of BIOS and see if that helps.
