First Prey 2 screenies

You are both right. The ending included both of these things and in this order.

That's a for shadowing technique or a cliff hanger. When someone says "loose ends" I take that as something un-answered. The game ended very well and Prey's story was great. This sneak peak to the game doesn't get me excited for it at all, but I will be waiting to hold judgment till more is developed for the game.

uhmm guys refresh me again, but exactly what happened to 3DRealms again? I know something happened to them which was why Duke Nukem Forever was cancelled around 2 years ago (future release with another publisher).

3d realms are gone, closed forever, the old staff that was on dnf is polishing the game at gearbox.
Scott Miller has opened Radar Group as a game publisher company but in a friendly supportive way and not as tight executive greedy assholes, although there hasn't been any news from it for the last years so yeah.... I am not even sure if prey 2 is still related to radar.

Yeah, probably explains why Prey 2 won't even have the "feel" and "atmosphere" of the original Prey. Oh well, most games are like this nowadays. Let's just hope Prey 2 proves us wrong and turns out good :D

I credit the first Prey entirely to Human Head, not 3DRealms. I don't think 3DRealms was competent enough to handle the project itself.

This thread actually makes me want to take part 1 for a spin again. Hell, I haven't played it since it first came out.

Why are they departing from the ending of part 1? After the ending I couldn't wait for part 2, but with the hints at the storyline, I'm not looking forward to it at all. And a sandbox game? I'm tired of that shit. Like someone said earlier, stop making games that are only a couple of hours and make them longer. Or if they are short, make them have one hell of an impact, or really really fun to play, and without side missions.

Well the game did take a very long time to get released :p

I did some basic research, and Bethesda claims that the game well be made how Human Head wants to make it. I believe development was restarted after Bethesda acquired the rights from the previous rights owner to facilitate this. Whether or not this is true though, is anyone's guess.

And some of us are tired of linear, run and gun shooters, which are overwhelmingly in the majority. Prey wasn't bad for it's time, but it was notoriously short,I can't think of an FPS that took me less time to complete. I agree they should have stuck with the original storyline, but I'd welcome the open world approach.

That screenshot looks like complete ass. Let me guess, console port?

Can't agree more. Linear shooters like COD are a total bore to me these days...

fairly certain the second one is a piece of concept art, its hard to tell because the foreground certainly looks like it could be based on in game assets but if you look at the far background its pretty clear its been hand painted. The subtle blur given to objects at a distance doesnt speak to any kind of post processing, its standard fair for any environmental concept. you might also notice subtle hints of opacity in certain objects that definitely wouldn't be there were it not a painting inspect it closely and you'll realize pretty quickly that in fact it is not at all realistic, simply a combination of techniques used by artists to trick your eye. Still if the environments look like that its got me interested.

1st screen = meh, stupid jar-jar-bink-ish looking aliens creatures... totaly not interested in what's going on there...

2ns screen = seems like concept art/painting, no expectation the actual game will look like that, still not interested

this thread however makes me a bit interested in the first game, so I may buy and play that sometime soon, it always looked pretty interesting. It does suck they don't continue from the ending of it though, so another "-1" for prey 2....

If they're smart they'll have Jeremy Soule return to do the music.

I love how everyone is annoyed the don't continue the story, before they really know what the story is and what gameplay will really be like.

This game is supposed to be a sequel to Prey. That means it should continue the story set in the first, and preferably use the same main character. The gameplay should also follow the first. They seem to want to make a completely different game this time, but want to ride the coat-tails of the first game. If they would just give this game it's own universe, none of this would matter but then they wouldn't get any of the hype.

The fact they're not using the portal or gravity puzzles is the biggest disappointment. Those features are what made Prey stand out and not just be another forgettable shooter. I don't have much hope that they open-world setting will be all that good, as very few studios can make a open FPS that is fun beyond the first hour or two.

I thought Prey 1 was fun. Short but fun. Didn't get to try out the multiplayer though. I'm not to happy about them claiming it's a sequel when they completely ditch the original story line and the character from the first one. Open world can be a lot of fun but linear can as well if done right. Guess I'm just going to have to wait and see for more information.

People playing ME would disagree with you...

And as for sequels...I can point to plenty of games and movies that have "sequeals" which are in the same universe but not using the same characters. I mean, would you people seriously cry less if the title were changed to "Prey: A different story in the same universe"? And has anyone said the puzzles will be missing??

Yes, they have removed the puzzles and portals.

Mass Effect 2 was a proper sequel. It built on the story and gameplay from the first. There were some changes in the mechanics, mainly simplification of certain RPG aspects, but it still stayed a 3rd person action RPG.

It shouldn't be titled Prey at all if they feel the need to make it a completely different type of game. It feels like they're only titling it with the Prey name in order to take advantage of the popularity they had with the first game. That makes me think that if they tried to market the game on it's own, they don't think it would work out for them. Kinda like what happened with Red Faction to Red Faction 2.

Uh, no. Title tells you what universe it follows. Prey means the Prey universe; Mass Effect or Halo tell you the universe it's in.

I'll cry foul when they call the next Halo game (notice, I CALLED IT A HALO GAME!) "Shitstorm: Diarrhea" - I did NOT cry foul when they released Halo Wars.

ME2 I used as an example because it's an open styled gameplay - addressing your last point, not your first.
