Well, it disappeared from my Steam list during the download which was only 2mb short of finishing and after restarting Steam the download doesn't show either. Think this one is bust, at least for me.

All those people who thought they could make a quick buck by selling dozens of keys on eBay are about to get flooded with negative feedback and requests for refunds. I love it :)

lol, yup the game is just gone. I played for about 45min then exited the game. Now when I click on my desktop icon for the game it just takes me to steam where I can buy it. Oh well, 45min to try out Metro lol.

Stupid part is, that they didn't uninstall it all the way, it is sitting on your HD still... so it appears they can disable it, but not actually uninstall it ?

My friend's account is still locked, no word yet on what the deal is.

So does that mean everyone's keys are deactivated? That sucks, I wanted to watch my brother feel the same pain that I did trying to beat the damn library level lol.

I think that's the same thing that happened a few months ago when Steam had a price mistake on King's Bounty (was listed as free in their Store). I DLed it and even played it for a little while, but Steam eventually disabled it and left the files on my HD. They had to be deleted manually.

DRM. Don'tcha love it?

is anyone who placed an order seeing their order number not working on the find my order page? i was able to log into that page earlier and see my keys but now im getting order number not found.

Steam isn't a rootkit, so yeah, they can't actually REMOVE the files, since you never ran an uninstaller yourself.
If the game weren't a native steam game, you could still play it...

That depends though... while steam may invalid the keys, Metro could also invalid them in their own database.

Then again, if you ran the downloader through nVidia site, it asks for a Steam key before running the game...

Ouch. Painful. :/

I wonder if the people with the download manager version are suffering the same fate?
Yup, It's gone. I wasted so many hours download the game for nothing. :(

Isn't there anything that we can do to get them to reactivate our keys? After-all, it was a legitimate purchase on your part.:D

I got my key reactivated. It took 25ish minutes. Here's how.

I called Nvidia @ 866-540-1140 adn took option #5 at the automated prompt.

I demanded that they reactivate my key. They went into a spiel about it was a mistake. I requested to talk to a supervisor, and did.

I advised them that their Terms of Sale (https://store.nvidia.com/store/defa...tionsPage/eCommerceProvider.DR+globalTech+Inc.) did not provide for cancellation of orders due to pricing mistakes, once an order is complete and the product has been rendered, it is complete.

1.2
ALL PURCHASES ARE FINAL, NON-CANCELABLE AND NON-REFUNDABLE, EXCEPT AS SPECIFIED IN THE APPLICABLE RETURNS POLICY.

2.5
Our acceptance of your order takes effect and the contract concluded at the point where such offer is expressly accepted by us dispatching your order/commencing Services

The order was completed and affirmed by Nvidia delivering the key, This was also reaffirmed by me playing the game in steam for a brief period.

I advised the supervisor that they entered in a legal contract with me by completing the purchase, and per term 1.2 of the sale, it is not legally cancelable as the transaction was fully completed.

After some argument, he agreed.

Get calling boys!

You don't need to be a rootkit to remove files, all they had to do was throw up a dialog saying it was disabled, and to tell you, you must manually remove the files.

Or even a uninstall button on that dialog. They know where the game was downloaded to.

You think this would work even if you only activated it on your account?

I don't feel bad for NVidia. They can certainly afford to toss $100,000 down the drain, no problem. I don't think anyone ought to lose their job because of it.

Nominated for the stupidest post of the day.

Ya this wont work for most of us here who got our keys from XacTactX on this forum, since we never purchased directly from nvidia.
Congrats though for your effort.

I am a little surprised that Steam canceled the keys, which i am sure was at the request of Nvidia.
If i was Steam i would have just made Nvidia pay for the keys, since it was Nvidias fault and not theirs.
Guess they don't want to piss off Nvidia, as they are probably a good customer.

After downloading it, playing it for a few minutes and getting my key invalidated by steam, I went ahead and bought a key for $10 on THQ's website. Good game, well worth the $10!

Nah, I played it and beat it the first month it was out. I don't find it worth $10.

Yeahhhhhh... I've got better things to do with my time then quibble over a game I did or did not get.

It's a matter of principle.

They entered into a legally binding agreement. I expect them to deliver on said agreement.

There are two sides to that argument. There's the side of the legally binding agreement, and there's the side that it was a free game (by mistake, no less) and you shouldn't feel entitled to it. I'm not saying I agree with what they did, but you do have to consider both sides.

steam installed it using one of these keys and then it was removed from my library somehow and never got to play it......

By providing the key, and authorizing me into the game the transaction was completed and accepted by Nvidia (per Terms of sale item 2.5). Per term of sale 1.2 all orders are non-cancelable once completed.

Also, the terms of sale have no provision for cancellation of an order in the event of a pricing/offer mistake. I looked. I wouldn't have made the argument if it did, and I wouldn't have called them if it did.

The fact that they made a mistake is their problem. I take my lumps when I fuck up, they can take theirs too.

Meh, I wish I had tried this. My order on NVidia.com just got deleted for some reason. Meh.

Oh well, not like I didn't lose anything for trying.

I tried calling, and they wouldn't budge. Guess I'll have to wait until Steam has it on sale for $5.

As far as I'm concerned, consider this the other side of the coin for all the DRM crap they've been pushing on us for all these years. Once you opened the box, you have agreed to the TOS, you bought it, you can't bring it back for any reason. And they can't cancel the transaction for any reason. Think of it like this, you found a great deal on a monitor at best buy, a priceing mistake but still you bought it and walked out the door with it. Now Best Buy runs out to the parking lot and tells you it was a mistake and you didn't actually buy it. Actually since it is installed on my computer it's more like the Best Buy guy coming to you HOUSE and telling you it was a mistake and you didn't really buy the monitor so you can't use it... Well right now I'm telling NVidia the same thing I would tell the BestBuy guy if he came to my car and started to take the monitor.

wow, someone actually wiped the ENTIRE thread from slickdeals, it's like it never existed!! OMG LOL!!

Did you need to provide your order number? They act like they can't do anything with my product keys without an order number.

Yeah that makes sense and I agree. I was just saying what they probably see it as. I just tried calling in and the guy refused to do anything about it and he insisted I call directly to NVidia. At that point I asked for a supervisor and he hesistated for a second, said yes one second, and then he hung up on me. AWESOME.

Weird, the number in my post is Nvidia's number (I didn't call steam)

Just a word of warning: People have lost their Steam accounts (and all purchased games on their accounts) for doing less sketchy things than registering cd-keys found on a public forum.

Obtaining keys other than through legitimate channels (including buying keys from other users) isn't worth it folks. It will come back to bite you in the ass.
