I have NEVER purchased anything from eBay, nor have I bought something from someone online before as I'm what you would call paranoid. I've been in the market to find a very nice laptop that I can use at home or when I (rarely) travel for web browsing and normal workstation use.

Has anyone purchased from this guy? The price on this E6410 based on the specs and warranty seem too good to be true:

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-DELL-Latitude-E6410-5Year-Complete-Care-Warranty-/270700120248?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item3f06fc08b8

$799, brand new in box with i5 and 5 years complete care warranty.

As an eBay Associate, HardForum may earn from qualifying purchases.
Seems fishy. That's an amazing price for an i5, 9-cell battery, and a ridiculous warranty.

That's what I'm thinking, but look at his feedback rating. Am I missing something here since I've never used eBay? Looks like he's selling laptops (E6400's and E6410's) like hotcakes at this price.

The prices on the E6410s fluctuate around that price quite a bit. There are so many configuration options, so it really depends on what you're after.

This is a great deal, but you can probably find a similar deal on Dell's official outlet. (sometimes better, depending on their stock) Pros of this particular deal: great screen (not the usual screen reso these 14" laptops get), 4gb ram, i5 cpu
cons: (imo) no gpu or backlit keyboard.

Dell's refurbished laptops come with a 3 year warranty I believe and they are generally in great condition (unless you opt for the scratch/dent option), but this seems pretty legit eitherway.

4gb of ram with a 32bit OS, and terrible english/poor tech speak= too many red flags for me...

Normally if its seems too good to be true it is... especially on Ebay. I personally wouldn't risk it on a Dell, but the sellers has immaculate feedback and a very detailed description with precise information so it seems about as legit as it goes on Ebay.

I am not seeing terrible English or poor tech speak.. .seems pretty standard to me. Not perfect..but I wouldn't say the description is alarming itself, mainly the prices scares me.

Well, he calls the OS the "OEM", uses no apostrophes...
And alone that's not a big deal, but the 32bit OS makes me nervous. No OEM sells systems with more than 3gb of ram with a 32 bit OS anymore as far as I know. Shoot, my wife's $400 gateway with 3gb has a 64bit os...

And yea, there's the price with that warranty. He claims it covers physical damage too...

AND, he has to transfer the warranty?

With out ATI or nVidia graphics, I would skip that lappy...My laptop would tear that apart in games and it was only $650. Check out Newegg, you may be able to find one with a GT420 or 5650 for a reasonable price.

It really doesn't seem like that good of a deal to me. My wife bought a similar machine from MicroCenter for about $550 last year.

I imagine it was company purchased, thus the warranty transfer. Dell keeps a record of the purchaser and sometimes they ask for it when you call them for RMA when you have their "warranty services".

Our company purchases them all the time with a 32bit O/S and 4GB of ram. It just depends on what you ask for. It's silly, but its not that uncommon.

The statement "The OEM is Windows Pro 7 OEM 32 Bit" is a little odd but not that bad.

I am not recommending the OP buy this I just don't see anything that alarming with the description. Its a Dell so I wouldn't recommend it even if it was from Dell's website. I agree with others that its not that great of deal compared to other laptop manufacturer but it seems like a decent price for what Dell charges for their shitty laptops.

Actually, for business notebooks it's still fairly customary to have 32 bit OS as the standard for compatibility purposes (more an issue in business with custom written half-assed apps than in home apps that are updated more frequently). That shouldn't raise any red flags.

Hell, in every way my laptop tears that garbage to pieces...AVOID that! 160GB hard drive? THAT'S A BLOODY JOKE!!!(unless it was an SSD of course) 32-Bit Windows!!! BAH!!! 2.4Ghz i5...ok, that's pretty good...4GB or RAM? with a 32-bit OS? WHAT!??! Battery, Screen Size and resolution seem fine...but the other parts bring this down...way down...

There, a real laptop! a FASTER Core i5 (up to 2.93Ghz with turbo), a nVidia GT425. 64-Bit Windows, Same price as that crappy dell, but with Neweggs eggselent service and fast shipping and no questionable warranty.

I have seen MANY laptops with 4GB and 32bit Windows. especially the business models were ALOT of software simply does not work in 64bit.

Different build quality too.
Dell Latitudes are built pretty nice compared to $600 consumer laptops.
The Latitude wasn't built with performance in mind, more built towards surviving in a traveling business persons' crappy laptop case and run Powerpoint, not WoW.

Agreed. And a 5 yr complete care warranty is normally several hundred dollars alone.

I love my e6410. I have an i7 with an SSD but even the i5s I buy for work are pretty damn nice. The build quality on the 6410 is pretty damn good. Huge improvement over the e6400. Cooling is also vastly improved. 5 year complete care is huge.

I priced out this model through my Premier account and it comes to $1229 with 3 year warranty no complete care. Adding the complete care for 5 years adds $300 to the cost. Oh and FYI you should be able to download a OEM win 7 64bit install disc and install it on the machine and it will use the OEM license that came with the laptop. Also if you can find a cheap backlit keyboard online somewhere get it. It's a damn nice feature to have.

The major con to this system comes from the use of integrated graphics. No webcam kinda sucks too. It would certainly take more of a beating the your $600 newegg special. And the warranty is huge.

1366x768 resolution is terrible for many things.

I'm not purchasing a laptop for games. I have a desktop for my games. Also, compare the warranties.

1 year warranty and not even close to the same build quality and less battery life...

I agree with everything here. The only downsides I saw was the lack of a webcam (I skype with several family members on my desktop currently), and I was looking for a backlit keyboard.

i'd be weary. I bought a 3008wfp refurb from ebay came with a 4 year warranty that was transferred to me from the seller. I got a great deal on it $800, but stand is off a little and the screen leans to the right. Seller said he would ship a new stand but he never did and never responded back. He sold about 300 of those screens all from his feedback. One day he stop selling them gave some lame excuse my guess is he was doing something funny at dell. The warranty shows up online but the screen was sent with instructions to return a defective screen which makes me wonder what this guy was doing.

Don't know if you will get the same situation here but I would be cautious because of the "warranty transfer".

Yeah, it's refurbished but you can return at any Best Buy store. They have a ton on there, including some good deals on Asus gaming lappies.

/thread ;)

It's not refurbished, it's new.

EDIT: Sorry if you're talking about the one that you linked.

EDIT again: Why is everyone linking laptops that aren't even in the same build quality nor the same freakin' warranty. Of course this laptop isn't that great of a deal if it's the same fucking warranty as the home user MSIs, Acers and Samsungs...

Ordovician, I'm not specifically bashing you. But Dell's warranty transfers are common especially if purchased through a small business reselling. You can't get support for the warranty unless you can verify who it's registered to.

he's been on ebay 12 years (click on his name to view his profile where you can see what day he signed up for ebay)

i've never bought from him personally, but i can assure you (over 250 ebay purchases) that scammers don't last 12 years on ebay.

We sell 6410's at work here, we are a reseller. I was going to get one through us, but it would have been like $200 more dollars than this and less of a warranty. They are indeed really nice looking laptops and solid as hell.

How confident are you on that? Like I said, and obviously... I'm very paranoid... lol. I have a paypal that I set up about 5 months ago, but have never used it. :(

I just have a scathing hatred for integrated graphics...that Dell is absolute garbage to me...however if you prefer a slightly higher resolution screen and a mostly useless warranty (My XPS' warranty ran out 3 months before the motherboard failed...yes I got the stupid extended warranty) and can live with the tiny hard drive(which I admit should be upgradable, but if you value the warranty you may want to check if you can do that), 32-bit OS, limited intergraded graphics, and poor customer support (again, ex-Dell owner here for the above reason) then by all means, get that lappy. In terms of Durabilty, my Old Acer laptop (5516) FELL down a flight of stairs (in a bag of coarse) and is still going strong...I constantly threw it into my car constantly (breaking the screen of my iPod I had in it at one point} and it's still going strong... I wanted to do some gaming and that was the only reason I upgraded. Now I havent dropped my current Acer down a flight of stairs, but I do toss it arround quite a bit and the little guy is rock solid...so durability is luck of the draw from my experience....

You have clearly never worked with Dell Pro Support. I don't base product durability based off how carelessly I handle my precious expensive electronics. Durability from normal wear and tear. The hard drive is replaceable and wouldn't have any problem with getting an RMA, I would be switching it out with an SSD.

I don't think there is a way for him to fabricate his start up date and with the amount of positive reviews he has I doubt he's a scammer. Even if you are a legit seller on Ebay some buyers are unsatisfiable. 1100+ transactions and not one bad feedback... its about as solid as it gets on Ebay. Even reputable sellers get bad feedback due to ridiculous expectations from buyers.

Plus you have Ebay buyer protection and if you use your CC you can always dispute he charges if an issue should occur. I can't speak for the reliability of refunds via those methods when issues due arise as I have never had to use any of them, but you do have a course of action should he not live up to his end.

I normally feel pretty safe buying on Ebay and have yet to have an major issues.. knock on wood

That's good to hear and that reinforcement is nice. Hypothetically, if I use PayPal I'm increasing my decreasing my likelihood of getting stiffed even more...

Meh... paypal disputes are ugly, and paypal is not on your side, necessarily. Your CC company will be.

Just to reiterate some of the other posts, Dell Latitudes are solid business laptops. Don't confuse these with the Dell consumer models that look like they were made out of plastic. I have a E6500 and my company just started bringing in E6510 in i7 and i3 versions. I've been building them and handing them out to execs and VP's as the inital test run and they all like it better than their HP 6530b, which we're replacing.

Ours were configured with a 250gb hd, 4gb, 9-cell, and costs over 1k each. Regardless, legit or not, this is a great price for a great laptop. Not too many enterprise laptops come with SSD anyway, or at least companies aren't willing to shell out the extra cash yet.

Just replace the 160gb with a SSD and like someone else said, download the Dell 64-bit W7 DVD and reinstall. I'd be tempted with this but my wife would kill me. I prefer 14.1" over 15.6" on our E6500. 15.6" feels heavy and bulky to carry around.

My thoughts exactly, I'm gonna see what my taxes bring in and get me one of these. I just wish it had a backlit keyboard and webcam. These 14.1" at this resolution will look rich.

I've always found Paypal seems to favor the buyer, same as a CC.

Yea I've seen the same thing. I've lost out as a seller only once but Paypal has saved me as a buyer 2 or 3 times. Worst case you can always go to your Credit Card company. I am very mindful to always change my payment source even on cheap items.

I wish people would check the damn ebay "deals" --- more than 50% of the time they are scams. One of the main reason I never buy ebay again, protection plan my ball sack! They give you $0, I spent weeks trying and ebay only cares for themselves. Even if the guy is "verified paypal" with a 100% rated account, it doesn't matter, $0 for you when you get screwed over on ebay. More than one time too, pass and NEVER again... not worth the sometimes extra $5 difference 3 or 4 times, then you'll lose $50+ or more in the end of your ebay advertures and youll take the safety boat the fuck outta the ebay, like I did. Or better yet, lose $799 on a "deal" like this.

And paypal will give you $200, no more... speaking from experience on an ebay deal (100% rated seller) who totally quit talking with everyone, even paypal.... they said the funds were unrecoverable so you're Shit outta luck. Ebay gave $0 after that happened and I went and abided by their "protection plan".... $0 and weeks of emails, 10+ pages long.

Whatever, I won't feel so bad, you'll just be another sad sap story I read about ebay :D One guy I read got shafted for over $5,000 on a car deal and ebay never went through with the protection plan either that he thought would cushion the deal..... ha. That made me feel 10x better reading that I gotta say!

Good call man, surely this guy has been scamming people and transferring warranties for twelve years and not a single person has noticed they were getting ripped off. When people go to www.dell.com to check their warranty status, that page must be a scam too

I would definitely buy this laptop if I was in the market for one. 5 year Dell Complete Care warranty cannot be beat.
