Post Your Sandy Bridge Build

Mine is a Workstation/WoW computer. It will be used for visual studio development, video compression, wow and general junk.

Stability is my main thing I wanted. I haven't wanted to deal with OCing for a while.

Processor: i7 2600 (not the K version)
Ram: 4x 1GB DDR3 I had laying around
Mobo: Intel DP67DE mATX
Case: Coolermaster Elite 341
Power Supply: SuperMicro 460w
Video Card: Gigabyte ATI 5770
Hard Drive: C300 64GB SSD & 1TB WD Green drive.
Optical Drive: LG HD-DVD/Blu-Ray
OS: W7Pro 64-bit

This system screams... I am going to replace the ram when I find a good deal and the wife isn't looking :p

Interesting. I hear overclocking is a piece of cake with these new chips...like a couple of easy tweaks and your at 4GHz in no time.

I was really undecided on the mobo, RAM, and the display. I will most likely go triple head if I like this Asus and also add another GTX 580 as well. This will be my third build and i am learning everyday. Buying and building is easy though, it's the configuring that's the hard part...

I know this setup is expensive and I could save a few bucks on some of the overkill items, but what I am really looking for is if there are any conflicting devices or something better for the money. If you see any please feel free to let me know. It will be appreciated.

Thanks to [H] and good luck to all on their builds.

I found out a long time ago that if you spend a lot on a rig it will be outdated in 6 months. All that money that was spent on the latest and badest is now old hat that don't look so good anymore. I do my setups about every other new technology that suits my purposes. Such as I game mostly and surf the internet and do some lite movie downloading that's it. I don't need a 2600k with hyper threading for the stuff I do and I don't need a mother board that has more than 3 pci-e slots. Actually I don't need any PCI slots. So why spend an extra $100 or more on a mother board and another $100 on a cpu. That money could be put back for a later upgrade if i feel like it or when ssd's drop in price which is what I'm looking at next. I don't have the fastest setup or the badest but I do have the money I saved in my pocket waiting for the price to go down. Anyone can go out and buy the badest rig around until someone hear's what you have and they have a bigger wallet just to have claiming rites to the badest rig or most expensive(big whoop). I look at it as buy what suits your situtation.

this is true. many people here on [H] have a legitimate need for an i7-2600K (folding @ home, video encoding, etc). also some users may not require that much processing power at the moment, but would like to have it on reserve should it be needed in the future.

Fair enough and point well taken. I am just in a position in my life whee I can afford the latest and greatest, so to speak.

Don't you feel that with this attitude though, that you will never know what it is like to have the best? Maybe having the best will prolong the time you can use it. I will upgrade this system when Ivy Bridge comes out later this year. I already know that, but that's just me.

I kept my last rig for 3 years and it served me well. I had very frustrating problems over the last year related to that fact and I won't let that happen again.

Good luck to you with your build.

I fail to see what any of this has to do with this thread?

PS...my ePeen was feeling inadequate, so I opted for the i72600K :p

i spent 2 minutes in the BIOS (literally) to achieve this:

ur using non-stock cooler right (from your previous posts)? does those temps stabilize around 60C?

//have a i5-2500k chip, want intel p67 matx board and stock cooler to save money, wondering how bad those temps can be(those stock coolers still allow OC to 4.4ghz from anandtech's review)

The last piece of my build arrived today (motherboard) so it looks like I'll be elbow deep in a new build this evening once I get home from work.

yeah i'm using an aftermarket cooler, the CoolerMaster Hyper 212+. the temps shown above in RealTemp are where it plateaus and stays during IBT. for reference, the most cpu-intensive games i own at the moment, BC2 and COD:BO, plateau in the high 40's celsius during heavy gameplay. so IBT is a great stress test that really pushes the processor. there's some discussion about overclocking using the stock Intel cooler here.

Alright. I think I'm done now.

that's a damn nice looking rig ex0du5

Nice build!

I notice you only have two sticks of RAM. Does the fan on your CPU cooler block the empty first RAM slot?

why thank you :)
someone asked the same thing in another thread, and i took a few pics to try and give an idea of the clearance. see my post here.
