You know that “do not try at home” disclaimer stuff you always hear before doing something dangerous? This guy didn’t listen (thankfully).

Wish he would have tested it on some kind of flesh...

But I think I just found my fall project!

I mean if someone cant get the penatration theres no point getting the coil in the first place...

Nice.....but it seemed inconsistent for the shots. One goes right through the metal side of the microwave, but the shot through the plastic jet model was stopped by cardboard.

Looks like the evil kid from Toy Story is all grown up and got himself an education :O

He did point out that the voltage was controlled by a dial, presumably that allows him to dial in the output. That's useful.

The power is a bit underwhelming, but he did put a lot of thought into the design. Very professional-looking.

That is likely the most awesome thing I've seen in a long time! I'm just really scared of what could be built using a mounted weapon and a much larger power source. But I guess the NAVY already knows this with the fun rail guns they got.

Im going to buy some carboard armor and hide behind a clock radio!!!

Or some thin gauge sheet metal!

Of course when the first bullet bounces off you, you walk up to him to punch him in the nose while he's recharging.

Creativity - A+
Execution - C
Practicality - F

lol, seems more likely that you would electrocute yourself rather than kill someone with it.

awaiting 2.0 :)

Pretty neat..I wonder if he will continue to refine his design to make it attain lethal velocities? I think that maybe if he used a smaller projectile, he would get faster muzzle velocity? All I know is that I could not build one. :)

Or use all those batteries and build a giant ass taser... With a CS gas canister grenade launcher. Firey.

Needs smaller thinner heavier bullets. Get some of that uranium off amazon.

Nice. Wonder how old he is. That tagline for his company at the end was pretty tacky and generic...

I think its a lot better than those paper guns people make videos on youtube.

A faster, higher pulse SCR (or IGBT). Lower ESR caps to support faster charging can all help. Otherwise you add another stage to it.

There's a limit to how much energy you can shift to the round however as it saturates magnetically.

The projectiles he uses seem way larger than necessary, but maybe that length is required for the magnet to "grab" onto?

the projectile needs to be like the size a 22cal projectile. that projectile he was using was HUGE.

For those bitching about the penetration, that damn projectile looks as heavy as an entire .45-70 cartidge!.If he had a much smaller bullet the velocity would be sonic and make for a nice cat killer.
Creativity: C +it's been done before.
Execution: A - Miles better than the mile of wire crap, or BB guns out there.
Practicality: B- If this thing were to use a much lighter and smaller projectile the efficiency would be better too.
Obamanomics: F- Beats using a slingshot on ferel cats on the cool factor but slingshot ammo is dirt cheap.

1.25kJ sounds good, but I don't think that much energy is imparted to the projectile. He should post the weight and speed. A small caliber handgun or powerful airgun have more impresses results.
