BFGTech Exits Graphics

Dubaya Tea Eff, m8s!

Damn, that came out of nowhere. I loved your products, more specifically the video cards. Granted, my recent purchase was an ATi from another company, I had a few of your cards before that. Well, here's wishing all the best and hopefully sometime down the road, you might re-enter the graphics business if it's profitable =x

Damnit, I was hoping they would jump to the ATI side of things and make cards for them. I haven't looked at ATI card makers for a while but the last time I looked, the overall selection for quality and warranty wasn't as high as it was on the nVidia side due to companies like BFG. It would have been nice to have a player like this step up on the ATI side.

Same here I have owned more bfg graphics card then any other company, Sad day indeed.

had sli BFG 6800gt's in the first rig i built my friend is still using them to this day and still not a single problem with them

:(

Fermi the destroyer of Vendors

Woohoo! Clearance sales on BFG cards coming soon to online and B&M stores. :D

Another nvidia company struggles...

Like, the leave nvidia exclusive, and go ati, or die out, one by one.
Alltho gigabyte msi, asus and so on offer so much that loss by fermi doesnt matter.

I think XFX did a smart move last year. 5 year warranty FTW :D got a 5850 from em, or wait two :D

Anyways, BFG is a very renowned company, pitty to see them go, they could replace someone else, not sapphire, cheap cards, 3 year warranty, lowest RMA rate.

BFG will be sorely missed on the video card front, guess the economy hit them harder then expected. I had sorta heard rumors about this for a few months and was expecting this announcement sooner, guess you guys went down swinging. Personally never owned a BFG video cards, but have worked with them professionally and recommended them to friends and customers (one of the big 3: eVGA, XFX and BFG).

Seriously? I am sure it is coming but there is a time and place for these things, but not in this thread. I am sure there are some people who are going to loose their jobs while you collect your clearence graphics cards.

It's sad to see them go (for graphics cards). The problem is that BFG is now an "old guard" in a sea of newer competitors that outfeature and sometimes outsell BFG in this category.

And NVIDIA's situation is not much better (at least for the moment). Specifically, the Fermi-derivative GPUs intended for the $200~$300 graphics card market have been delayed, and their highest-end GPU has had low yields which resulted in a short supply of cards based on that GPU. As a result, expect more die-shrinking and memory-bus-restricting on their old, outdated GPUs with "new" model names on them for the mid-to-low-end for the foreseeable future.

Am I false to assume that BFG's revenues were largely from the vid card market?

wow, just wow.

Never had an nvidia card that wasn't BFG. (and I've had a shit load of them)

I kinda saw this coming with the 400 series launch (hence my EVGA card), but am still shocked. I had hoped they would go red and green but out all together? This makes Chromatik sad :(

Damn, that came out of nowhere.

This is what HardOCP told you in January.

We will be seeing other major changes in video card sales this year here in the USA as well. The video card manufacturer landscape will be very different in the USA this year. Expect to see two or three major brands fall by the wayside when it comes to NVIDIA and AMD GPUs.

Sucks to have less competition in this market.

I have to go in my closet and find my BFG T shirt (came free with my old 8800GTX) and wear it today.

Maybe it was freebies like T shirts that made their cards unprofitable.

Business is serious business. Should I feel more sorry for the dude(s) who slaps the BFG label on the heatsink or the people working on RMAs, either of who you assume won't be able to get another position in the company? :p

So sad, until recently I had used a BFG 7800 GS OC card on my system, ran like a champ (still does) I upgraded to a newer ATI card because I have an older system (AGP 8X slot) and that was the best card available but my BFG card ran like a champ!!!!

This is the second time for these guys, they used to be VisionTek. I got burned when neither the company the bought the name "VisionTek" or BFGTech would honor the old VisionTek warranty.

Now, I still bought BFG cards and had wonderful experiences with their customer support when I needed to use their RMA service. This time it appears to be NVIDIA, last time it was an optical drive manufacturer (IIRC) that hosed them.

That explains why their only product I could find in Europe was a GTS250, no red cards like they supposedly got bad treatment by Nvidia because they decided to open up for. 'later BFG :(

Wow. I was wondering why I have not seen any fermi BFG's.

BFG was great. Farewell.

Feels bad man.

BFG Tech is an awesome company and I'm glad to have their products in many of my systems.

Very sad day indeed. BFG support was maybe the best I have dealt with.

Shame, but if you check out the thread in the nvidia subsection there are quite the horror stories going around now regarding RMA, so I am taking the comments regarding that area continuing with a grain of salt as it were. I am on almost week two now of awaiting for my 280GTX RMA to be shipped to me finally, there are other users reporting a month timeframe to and still no movement on their RMAs. This is completely unacceptable and frankly I will not purchase anything from them after this RMA has completed if it ever does.

Yes,

Ric Lewis and Shance Vance were two of the 3 original founders of BFG Tech.

they were the fun cool part of BFG, sorry in a way to see BFG go, but they had lost their way for a while now. does anyone really need a $10,000 pc?

Go Go Galaxy!!

Doh. I've even got a BFG t-shirt in the closet that came with my 260. Only had good experiences with them.

Last I had BFG was 6800GT and it's still working. BFG was one of the few "American" graphics card companies. Please tell me that US tech companies are not going the way of the auto industry. All it takes is one bad product cycle (errm.. Fermi.. Cough... Fermi...)

Second retarded comment along the same line...I mean really, how much of a fanboy you have to be to get this low.
Fermi is now guilty of every bad thing that happens in the world....Jesus, grow up people....like it is the first company that has to shutdown... not sure why mods allow crap like that ..oh well

Oh and yes I too loved BFG, just told my bro to hurry up with his RMA, just in case :)

My last 5 cards were BFG. I only had one that gave me trouble. Instead of getting them to replace it I just decided to upgrade, but I still bought another BFG.

gotta say this sucks ass. really sorry to see this. I am beginning to really detest Nvidia. They just lost the single biggest reason I was a Nvidia customer.
