I bet I know this answer but I need to ask: LAN play, is it supported?

Can I setup a dedicated server and play on a LAN?

Its not there right now, I read somewhere it could be implemented in the future but I wouldnt hold my breath.

This was so sad for me, considering were having a 50 people LAN next week around here :(

Heres hoping someone can leak the server software and hack it for lan.
 
I found this for those of you that want to change your FOV.

It might have been posted already but, enter your screen res and desired FOV ( I guess 90 being the best??) and it will tell you what to set your fov as in the .ini file.

Mine were

Screen width 1600

Screen height 1200

Desired horizontal FOV 90

Calculated vertical FOV setting: 74
 
how come the engineer does not have the repair tool, is it an unlock you have to get?

what is the point of the engineer without the repair tool, just the designated RPGer?

Gotta unlock it. I think it's the second unlock.
 
Dumb question that's not terribly important: If someone felt like it, can you play the MP maps offline against bots? Say in a situation where the online servers were screwy but you still felt like getting some action in past the single player campaign?

Starting out in this game sucks. You get a basic machine gun, pistol and some nades and a knife for scalping. I wouldn't call the starting a medic class a medic as you are basically a heavy weapons guy.
 
I started with all the class tools unlocked. Ammo box, Defib, Medic kit, Repair gun all unlocked right away.
 
Playing single player sometimes loading after a save checkpoint asks for cd and then ctd even though i did the 10 limit no cd in drive install option.

I get massive slow downs sometimes after playing for a while frps dips from 60 to 10 and then to 60 again randomly. Also snow level and inside tank i get some weird looking textures anyone else?
 
I had that problem last night too, I didnt start with ammo packs med packs etc. And none of my stats were updating but i was playing online. It was so hectic trying to get into a game last night. everytime i try to connect says ea server is down.

Engineer is sort of the same way, you do not start out with the wrench to repair tanks. I spent way too much time in my first game running along behind a friendly tank trying to heal it as it was laying down shells around the M-COMM station.
 
sounds like the random gadget deal is just a hiccup/glitch with the servers. it's likely a growing pain that will be addressed in an early patch/update.

hope this dot gets taken care of, too.

overall, there is just too much awesome in this game for me to really feel comfortable complaining (at least just yet) though. we were promised better performance from the beta, and by and large, this promise was delivered upon.

singleplayer is an absolute BLAST, and yes, the pun is totally intended. coming down from that mountain in russia and having to run from building to building to survive the cold, that was sweet. the vehicle chase scenarios are also awesome. really good mix of weapons starting fairly early. you don't have to wait long to get a taste of various loadouts. and the dialog is fresh. i looove the dig at mw2 (or at least i think that's what it is) where you're in the chopper with your squad and the one guy mentions "those special ops douchebags with their pussy ass heartbeat monitors" or however he puts it. :)
 
Loving the saiga shotgun, someone's been watching too much Deadliest Warrior.

My biggest complaint is that my name is taken, along with every other name. They allow an account to register up to 5 names, which they can never delete from their account...

As of right now it still doesn't fix the PB INIT error or the "You have been kicked from the server" message. I ran the updater last night and it downloaded a few files and other then EA not letting me join servers, the ones I did join were PB friendly. Starting today I have been getting kicked left and right from most servers.
 
This is pissing me off now. I just tried to join again at lunch and it sat at looking for a server for 5 mins. what the f!!

Only thing I can think of is either its because I have the limited edition version and it unlocked that way or its a EA/DICE fuck up in the server/databases and its not unlocking the tools properly for other people.
 
I have the limited edition version too, but couldnt figure out where all my med packs ammo packs engie gun were... its gotta be a bug.
 
I tried the punkbuster update as well but I don't think it's a punkbuster error... I just load and after about 10 seconds of loading on the screen it kicks me to the menu saying "You have been kicked from the game." regardless of anything I try. Also even running the .exe from Steam as an administrator still won't show me pings, just dashes. Anyone at all find a solution to these issues? I really want to play the multi on this :(.
 
I'll chime in here as well. I purchased the game thru Steam and probably played without issue yesterday for 3-4 hours. I was actually having some fun with the game and unlocked some guns, etc!

Today...My first issue was that the game kept asking for my CD Key and when I entered that, it said the key was invalid. After some Steam restarts and such, that issue finally went away and my stats came up. Now, I keep getting kicked from servers and I don't think it's a PB issue, least I don't get a PB error. I'm also getting alot of "Lost Connection to Server" issues.

Sounds like we'll just have to sit tight while EA/DICE gets some initial bugs ironed out? Great game though so far!
 
Man, I am so glad I payed $50 to beta test this game! The server browser is crap.

Nope. The ability to create a local server to sandbox or play vs bots is gone. Hopefully they'll add this (and LAN) in the future. Make planning for matches difficult, requiring a full-fledged server.

You should be able to see 2 keys when you shift-tab assuming you're on Steam. The first is the CD-key and the second is the promo key granting the unlocks. You have to enter the promo key under the MP tab (I think it goes under gadgets) to get the unlocks. I managed to get it to work last night in between EA server outages. As has been stated earlier in this thread you need to get into a game for the unlocks to become available. Now getting the M1 Garand from BF Veterans is a completely different issue.....


Oh, and the game is full of awesome. Fave map so far is the desert one with the decaying boat sitting on the sand between the spawns. Kinda reminds me of 73 Eastings for some weird reason.

This game is justification for throwing in my second 5870, hopefully no more slowdowns during smoke/explosions! :p

are all the people experiencing difficulties using the retail DVD or just the download from steam?
 
I'm getting the kick problem today - apparently there is a fix coming if the usual doesn't work. Going to try updating pb.
 
got the game yesterday and installed just now and tried to log in and no go. So I am running the bfbc2 updater, anybody know what the latest version provides/fixes?

Africa Harbor, without a doubt my favourite map in this game so far. I'm thinking because of the smaller scale of BC2 I'm going to stick with Rush and Deathmatch games. conquest can wait for the epic sizes of BF3. The conquest maps just didn't feel spread out enough to have a warfare feel. Dunno, I am really enjoying myself. Especially once I figured out that I could look at server info before joining to see whether they had killcams on or off. Hate killcams so much.
