NEC 23" IPS EA231WMi

Can anyone tell me where the heck can you buy a Nec EA231WMi in Europe?

I've been googling my penis off trying to find a reseller that ships inside the EU, either for the nec or the viewsonic and didn't find a thing.

I only found resellers for very few countries like uk/germany but I for one live in Romania and can't find any store that has this product and ships it to more than ONE country :|

Anyone not from a major EU country here? :D

I bought mine from www.pcbuyit.co.uk . Since you live near Greece, you.gr also sells them for less than 300 euros, you could try emailing them to find out if they will send to Romania.

Just got my NEC in the mail. I haven't been able to get it to run over 60hz. I tried powerstrip and adding one under nvidia custom resolution but neither worked. Do I need to Disable DDC/CI? Can anyone tell me exactly what to fill in the boxes for higher than 60hz over DVI?

For anyone without a calibrator, I used spyder2pro to find 6500k white point and my settings were 30 brightness 97.9red, 89.6green, 97.9blue., this gives me something like 125cdm2 brightness.

My biggest complaint about this monitor so far is that the anti glare coating is about as harsh as you can get.

Could you please provide us with an icc profile of 2.2 gamma with native white point (and native rgb) ?

No, because spyder2 sucks and when I used it to calibrate with 2.2 gamma, the picture turned out too dark then I tried 2.1 and the gamma was better but it added a green tint to the greys so maybe if I calibrate it like 400 times it will give me a good one.

Thanks for trying :). We have to find someone with a blue eye pro ;).

I got my monitor working at 83Hz using the display port from my 5850. My gpu temperature went up 5c from changing 60Hz to 83Hz, is this normal? I think it makes sense since there are more frames drawn

Thanks mate, I've emailed pcbuyit (since they don't have Romania listed either). But You.gr is written in Greek and google translate says they can't read the page; so I can't ask them.

This sucks, there're lots of stores that ship to Romania (I once ordered a cable from the US and they shipped it to me for free from Hong Kong :D) BUT they don't have the NEC :(

I will not rest until I find the right store! ..and until I cough up the cash. hopefully that won't take too long.

 [EDIT] this site ships EVERYWHERE! (or you can pick it up yourself from Rotterdam :p and it's free)
 http://www.webconnexxion.com/raid/product_info.php?products_id=5023&language=en
 so if anyone couldn't find this product, problem solved!

I tired both of the profiles listed and neither of them looked correct for me. It was however done with a blue eye pro. My Spdyder3elite should be coming in the mail tomorrow and I'll upload the profile if anybody wants to give it a spin.

Actually those profiles have a perfect gamma, you can check it yourself at www.lagom.nl . The problem is the white point which is obviously off with my monitor. A profile for a native white point (or at least the srgb preset) should do the trick and it shouldn't be that hard to produce with a good calibrator, the monitor gamma is already very near an optimal 2.2 gamma already.

Calibrated today. sRGB, 50% brightness and contrast.

Thanks, i can't seem to be able to use the file thought. I am on Linux and Argyll doesn't want to recognise it as a proper icc profile.
[EDIT]
It seems that Argyll (the utility that handles icc profiles on linux) supports icc v2 and your profile is an icc v4 profile. Thanks though, i really appreciate your effort to help. Btw, which calibrator do you have?

Here is a v2 profile. Enjoy!

I'm doing this on the spyder3

Edit2:

After comparing the profile I did with the v2, I realized I made a mistake with making my first v4 profile (left ambient mode on the monitor). If anybody wants the re-calibrated v4, here it is

Thanks man ! It seems we have very similar panels, gamma is near perfect and blacks are amazing (almost as deep as my sister's f2380) you've really made my day :).

[EDIT]
Btw, could you also make a profile with native rgb, native white point and gamma of 2.2 ? My panel has uniformity issues with srgb white, but native white seems fine (and is more neutral). I hope i am not been too bothersome :).

this is bugging me a little...can't find a way to automate the portrait mode...i don't know if it is possible...DDC/CI is ON, but doesn't help...i have a nVidia GeForce 6600 GT...any help is appreciated

Is this color uniformity problem to be expected, or should i demand a replacement?

It looks allot less severe on the native color preset btw.

Anyone have some good deals on these? I'm looking to pickup one more for my setup, 3rd once I get a new Videocard (5870) ...

Best I've seen is Provantage at $315 shipped...

To the guy above, I can't really see what you're talking about. Honestly for a $300 display I wouldn't expect perfection... on my $1000 Dell I did, so I got a replacement when it had an obvious defect in the uniformity (wasn't subtle change between colors, it was a distinct line like someone messed up applying the coating or something)..

Does anyone notice obvious ghosting on white and black screens like say the AC130 in CoD4 SP or MW2 MP, or even the UAV in BC2? This screen is perfect as far as normal gameplay but during those things it is unbearable. I've tried using all modes and even putting it back to native color and there is no difference.

Well I know those screens were always kind of ghosting intentionally by the game, but maybe it's made worse by the display. I could be wrong though.

I wish i had paid 300$ for it, but not everyone lives in the US. It cost me 350 euros which is more than double the price of an acceptable 23" monitor with a tn panel. What did i pay double for if not for the better colors? Most tn panels i've seen lately are more uniform that this.

Buy.com has then for $310 shipped. Many people have reported poor customer service from buy.com though so provantage might be a better bet.

Welcome to the forum and to this thread. Recommend doing a search next time (granted this is a HUGE thread), but this is THE biggest problem and gripe related to this monitor, as so many others have reported in on.

In a nutshell, this uniformity issue plagues ALL of e-IPS monitors using the LG.Philips panels (Dell's 2209, U2410, as well as the Philips' and ViewSonic 23" e-IPS'). I have yet to come across a single screenshot of someone showing off a gray background where you DON'T see the uniformity. However, there does seem to some whose issues are slightly less pronounced than others...although it's tough to tell since everyone is using a different camera, different settings, environment, etc.

Personally, I went through 2 of these recently, w/ the 2nd one having the problem even MORE pronounced than the last one....w/ a dead pixel in the very smack dab middle of the screen. Needless to say, I've returned that one and am awaiting my refund.

In closing and to recap, you're not alone in this problem and it has frustrated others who've returned theirs as well. If this monitor had perfect uniformity, it would be a (near) perfect monitor....esp for the price!

Ordered my first one from Buy.com with no hassles, but it had no issues out of the box. I've heard they're pretty poor with support on displays/TV's for returning.

I received this monitor last week and mine looks the same. Less noticeable in Native mode. I was pretty disappointed at first, but do not find myself looking at a light grey screen much. This is my first wide screen gaming monitor and have been impressed with the performance there.

At this point I am not considering an exchange for fear of the same problem or worse. If the monitor cost more I would consider a refund.

Thank you for your welcome. As far as searching goes, i've read almost the whole thread so yes, i knew about the issue. The reason i ask about it, is that not all batches are the same and the quality of the panel seems to vary from batch to batch. I just wanted to know if the problem is as pronounced on the latest panels as it used to be.

Sorry to be an absolute noob but how do I install these Profiles on WIndows 7 ? This is my first Venture into IPS and I am really loving this monitor but I have no clue how to chanhge the RGB values or install profiles.

[EDIT]
Thanks again mastercheif :). Native white point is cooler than srgb so it does have some more green (and blue).

I just received one of these today. Out of the box, I'd say there is definitely a difference in color vs my old Dell 2405fpw. Input lag in games seems to be better as well. The backlighting seems to be on par with others in this thread - it has the "IPS glow" but I personally don't find it to be a big deal.

Only bad thing is that it has a single stuck pixel. I don't think it's totally dead because I can't see it on a blue or red background. I might try running a "pixel unsticker" for a while and see if that helps.

If anyone is interested in the 16:9 and 16:10 difference, I snapped a quick picture of it next to my old Dell (Dell on the left, NEC on the right).

Man, the 23" looks so small at 16:9 next to the 16:10 Dell.

I ordered my first of 3 of these yesterday through Provantage and I was surprised when I saw it waiting for me on my porch just a day later. This is the first monitor I've ever recieved without at least one stuck/dead pixel of some sort. I just now fired it up and can already see what you guys refer to as IPS glow. I have it sitting next to my sharp LED right now and have yet to tweak the settings. Right off the bat I can tell my sharp has a lot better blacks.

I bought the hdmi to displayport cable from monoprice hoping to connect the PS3 to this monitor, but there was no signal showing up. I am currently using VGA to connect to my laptop. I tried looking for option to switch signal between vga and display port, but could not find any. Is anyone using this method to connect between the two devices? Am I doing something wrong?

I read some comments in the thread on using hdmi to dvi cable. Do you buy a hdmi to dual link dvi cable (24+1 pins) so that the audio can pass through from PS3? Thanks,

HDMI to DisplayPort cables are for video card output only. They will not work with monitors. You have to use the DVI port with an HDMI to DVI cable. DVI will not pass through audio. The PS3 can output audio separately.

HDMI is single-link, and the monitor doesn't support dual-link DVI signals anyway.

While this is mostly true, you can buy conversion boxes that will let you go from HDMI to DisplayPort, but they're like $150.
I was referring to simple adapters or cables. If you have enough money, you can convert from anything to anything. :p
