Holy crap! 21 Liters in volume for mini itx?

Just get an SG01, SG03, or Lan Box and save the trouble of mini-itx.

I'm digging it, very clean. Ashame mATX or ATX don't have too many this straight foward.

140mm Front radiator for CPU cooling would work. That should be a large enough heatsink for anyone. may limit you to 10.5in video cards though.

Case doesn't make sense to me. The only benefit from the Q07 (which had it's own set of issues) is the increased HDD bays and ability to add dual slot cards. Fan exhaust doesn't really add that much when you're still height-limited on the cpu cooler. For the enthusiast there doesn't seem to be too much offered; only viable application IMO would be a fileserver/folding rig.

large case for certain but how big a heatsink will be possible?

Jen
about 125-135mm tops. This is at best slightly more than the SG05 and SG06.

Or you could get the "Da Box" and fit a huge heatsink in it for the same space plus better board selection. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Then again, I've been wrong before :)

i build my own cases when necessary , giggles. have one in gallery section thats matx style and fits huge heatsink. still want something smaller but it seems i cant have both worlds

yeah, I've seen your creations! They are always awesome.

I think mini-itx has to grow but the limitations are obvious. the PSU and GPU are both huge making your ability to get under 12L virtually impossible. This is why the SFX PSU is used in the SG05 and SG06 and SG07. I think Lan Gear will make one around this size but that too comes with its downsides. I mean lets face it, once you get below matx, the motherboard just isn't the biggest thing. About time for GPUs and PSUs to go SFF. I think this will slowly happen in part because of companies using SFX PSUs.

Father knew best...

If I can't say something nice about the design of the Q08, I just won't say anything at all...

Sugo SG07 coming online soon Steeeeve?, I might need to take a closer look...if they did away with the overly huge vent holes and the cheap plastic front piece...I wouldn't hesitate. I looked over the pictures on your site, too dark to tell what's going on there...

Best,

Liquid Cool

Haha, Lian Li doesn't make bad cases...this one is just big.

The SG07 is still in prototype stage and will be shown at CES 2010. SilverStone isn't releasing any information until then. No bigger pictures either. I'm guessing Spring for the SG07 but who knows. Tony from Silverstone, who posts here from time to time, will probably let me know more soon :) They got a good operation over there.

Steeeeve,

don't mind me...I commented pre-coffee...I like Lian Li, don't let me kid you...:)

I just "wish" they could have utilized this borderline matx size case with a little more innovation. Perhaps cut out the full size component spaces and utilize a smaller optical drive and hybrid psu. The case wouldn't have to be so large. Not to mention, I'm just not feeling the vibe with those vent holes on the front plate, although they don't look bad.

Overall though, the design does have some serious pluses...after viewing those small photo's closely. A 140mm intake fan, 120mm exhaust. Venting for the psu and video card. Once the hard drive cage is removed, perhaps a 5850 would fit nicely, may be a tight squeeze for a 5870. If a person was looking for a gamer type case, this does fit the bill...Although, Lan Server does come to mind as well...

As mentioned, my two remaining parts(mobo and SSD) will be here on Tuesday, I'll put the build on a small cardboard for awhile and see what the SG07 is sporting for looks and perhaps take a look at what Lan Gear is up too before pulling any triggers on this case.

Best,

Liquid Cool

P.S. I like all of these different color choices. I was surprised to see the V351 in six different colors on Lian Li's website.

I'll add...just a theory at this point without having one in my hands, but it appears as though you might be able to switch out the 140mm for a 120mm fan. If so, the Corsair H50 would probably fit without modding? If I go this path...I know I'd be shoehorning some liquid cooling parts in here one way or the other...

Here are a few more shots of the Q08...nothing new really.

Although, if this Q08 is perhaps too large for your taste...the Q09 or Q10 could be more suitable? After reading a few quips about these on European forums, I ran across this on Intel's site...

It appears the difference in height in the Q10 vs the Q09 is to accommodate a full size optical drive and a low profile video card vs slim and none...;)

Back to the Q08...

The larger, almost borderline m-atx size of the Q08 has been discussed...perhaps since this case is quite larger than the original Q07, they should've titled it, "The Mini-V", instead of Mini-Q?

I've been looking around for some good mini itx cases for a home server and these are perfect. All great layouts and options.

Hmm. Very cool case imho but I'll be curious to see how an H50 cooling system will fit inside first.

I just sent an email to a LianLi rep I've talked to before specifically about that

Seeing if there's enough room before the power supply slides in that you can fit the Rad, might have to get a thinner fan, but hopefully not as I'm sure that'll hurt performance.

And if anyone cares, just got word it won't be out for a while.... like Q2 '10

another crippled case from Lian Li

What is their fetish with cramming the PSU right over the CPU?

SilverStone does it too. It's an efficient use of space. The PSU's fan can cool the process heatsink by sucking hot air out / away from it.

Cooler will have to be about 100 mm. That is more choices than PCQ07. You could install Silverstone SST-NT06 if you take IsLNdbOi's advice with the PSU.

Efficient? Not this case. Did you see how large it is for an ITX? Also drawing in all that hot air from the CPU decreases the the efficiency of the power supply.

Well, how else should the case layout be configured so that the PSU fan is put to good use? SilverStone has been using this configuration on their Sugo cases for years and they've been very good cases. See all of the Sugo threads here on [H].

The configuration works and works well (PSU right over heatsink).

In SFF it is probably drawing in all that hot air anyway.

There isn't much room for a full sized PSU in a mini-itx case. You'd have to make it too big or move the PSU to the front of the PSU to change this.

Works, yes. Well, no. (I have a SilverStone Sugo 1)
Look at the number of cases that have come on the market in the last couple of years where the PSU is located at the bottom of the case. Fresh air in and hot air right back out. It is about keeping all components as cool as possible. The hotter a power supply is the less efficient it is, also the shorter its lifespan. I have seen the same thing with hard drives. Most manufacturers cram them in where ever they can fit. I seen literally hundreds of dead drives in my shop just because of this.

This is what I was getting at to begin with. The PC-Q08 is a mini-ITX case that is as big if not bigger than some mATX cases. There is plenty of room in there to rearrange things.

It is huge actually. Yeah, for that big they could have used the space better but I think they have a difference purpose for this case...mainly for lots of HDs.

mini-itx boards can't fit that many drives anyway without a hardware controller/port multiplier. Case is already the size of my NSK3480.

Even with all the HDD I think rotating the mobo to the horizontal plain and sticking the PSU under it would have been a better solution.

Build wise, or design wise?

I've never been a fan of alot of LianLi designs, but their quality has always been good.
