Is Duke Nukem 3D the only FPS (or third person) with a jet-pack or equivalent? Not flying vehicles, nice as they are.

And not extreme jumps or low gravity, though those are fun.

If we can have Raptors and other vehicles why not flight? Or did I miss a playable game?

And Tribes 2!

Both free to download and play. I think GarageGames is coming out with a newer version of Tribes 1 but I haven't looked for it lately.

These were both classic games though T2 was stupidly, amazingly, buggy on launch. T2 also changed the play style from T1 - many people didn't like it, others did (I like it a lot).

TRIBES! Yes, so much fun. Did any of the unreal games have jetpacks? Maybe I'm just confusing the giant jumps w/ jetpacks...

Tribes, fuckin' a.

Red Faction Guerrilla has a jetpack, but you have to work into the game a little bit before you are able to get it. It's ridiculously fun to drop a bunch of charges into a building and jet upwards as you set off the explosives and watch the building explode beneath you...

And Giants: Citizen Kabuto. And Armed & Dangerous, another title from the same developers.

GTA: SA as well, I think.

ahh Tribes....

a game so few know about, yet it influenced soooo many...

massive battles with up to 64 players? (way ahead of its time)
multiple vehicles? (again, way ahead of its time)
multiplayer only and 3d accelerated (once again....)
vertical jetpack action? (and again...)
base building and customization? (jeeze!)
character customization, and different classes? (wow...)

damn I always go off on a rant when Tribes is brought up..... very few games can match its amazingness....

kindof an odd question :)

battlefield 1942 secret weapons of ww2 also had a jetpack.. albeit not very exciting to use...

Tribes is probably the top of the line for this. a game that sucked away so much of my life

ahhh.. tribes. sometimes the games that should have sequels don't get them for some reason.

How can you say so few knew about it? It was pretty big deal back in the day.
Or are you talking about nowadays?

it really never was much of a big deal....

the first one sold moderately well, but never made great sales numbers....

the second one sold even less than the first, partly because it had such high system requirements :(

the third one sold even less than the 2nd, and became the end of the line for the franchise...

Tribes was so, so excellent.. it is a pity it didn't catch on with the mainstream, when so many lesser games do (Call of Duty, Halo, i'm looking at you guys....)

Eternal Silence(HL2 mod, free) is an FPS/Spaceflight mix. You fly around, kill stuff, and in between run around and kill stuff. It's pretty fun.

Tribes... Come back to me! Such an awesome game...

The game I am thinking of now is Red Faction: Guerrilla. It has a jet pack and is an AWESOME multiplayer game.

It is not FPS though.... 3rd person but still one of the best multiplayer games in a long time. I recommend it.

So, what tribes game would you recommend the most for an oldschoolish lan party? I've never played any of them, we are putting together a gamelist any hardware in the last 3 years could play well.

I sincerely wouldnt recommend a Tribes game for a LAN if you guys haven't played it before...

it has a high learning curve, and truly complex gameplay....

and without very large teams and such, it loses much of its punch....

Star Wars Battlefront I and II?

I liked them a lot (as they could run on a GMA 950)
