Ikea desk gallery

My current apartment workstation setup. Just moved in a couple weeks ago, and yes I know there still needs to be some additional cable management. These were so cheap at Ikea I actually picked up 2 of them to do an "L" shaped setup for only $100 :D. They are surprisingly sturdy.

what desk is that

Yeah the desk is a great size and once you get the extensions it will be even larger! On the side that is wider, I have my Antec 1200 hanging off the end and I had to buy 20 foot DVI cables for my third monitor to even be plugged in.

Not sure if you checked these wire racks out but I have four of them forming a complete line along the backside and all of my cables just sit in there. Makes it look so much cleaner.

Wow...I'm measuring it out and I think I'm going to need 10' power and DVI cables to make this work. I already have 15' USB cables for a few things, but now I'm probably going to have to pull the keyboard and mouse into the monitor's USB hub to make this work. Before it is all done I might need one or two 10' USB cables as well.

I saw the wire harness you were taking about, I bought just one for my desk. I actually decided to use zip ties to hold the harness to the desk frame; I did not feel like making new holes on a desk that cost me $430. They're goes the "play funds" so now I'm out :D. I need to pick up some desk protectors (IKEA had them but I did not see them around anywhere) and I know I need a mousepad now too.

Most of the cables are going to be running along the back of the side that is not as wide. What few wires are running along the other back side of the desk I'm going to just zip tie them to the frame.

I'm playing around with having the monitors off to one of the sides of the desk, I don't know if I'm going to put them there or back in the corner of the desk.

Looks good, yeah monoprice is where I got my 10' and 15' DVI cables and several 6' USB extension cables as well for really cheap.

I actually bought my entire desk from Craigslist for $275 and the person already had three running along the back so I added my one to the desk for a nice run of all my cables. As I have two UPSs, two computers and three monitors attached to this desk, two computers on the stands and both UPSs zip tied in the corner.

It isn't necessary to quote 6 pictures just to ask for a desktop background.. a simple PM works. And the wallpaper can be found at interfacelift.com, it's one of their more popular backgrounds.

Sorry, fixed that to one. Thanks for the link, I had not heard about that website yet.

Following up to my previous post, we have the new "office" about 80% completed. Here are a few pics. All thats left is hanging the art pieces, some decor, and some porn.

Sexual Chocolate, That's a nice setup you got there. Are those the dioder lights I see underneath your bottom shelf?

Thanks and yes. A little piece of paintable panduit should cover those wires up in the corner. I'm making the 8 hours roundtrip trek back to Ikea this weekend to get some stuff for the rest of the house and I plan to get more of the dioders and put some behind the TV in the living room.

How easy was it to get those shelves up? I saw them at IKEA, but the staff told me that the mounting points for that shelf were based off European building standards and that it would be more work than not to mount them in an apartment that was built by OSHA US standards.

Also, is that cube thing from IKEA as well? Seriously enjoying that.

Lol so many people are asking about the chair fawk. I didn't even know what it was called until someone pm'ed me about it and apparently he knew the name haha.

Herman Miller - Mirra

No idea where to get it, I got two free ones from my companyy.

The cube thing is the Ikea Expedit Bookcase (there are a few different sizes, this one is the 53"x53"), its the same finish as the desk and shelves.

The shelf bracket is not based on 16" centers (possibly not even 24" either), however for those shelves (47") if you put the center hole over a stud it will hold a good 20lbs+. I put the center hole over a stud and just used drywall anchors for the side holes.

I'm seriously considering getting a Jerker off craigslist near me. It comes with the top shelf and printer shelf for $60 (maybe I'll try to get him down a bit more). Question is: where do you guys get all the additional shelves, such as in the above picture? Does Ikea still sell them? If so, link please.

They no longer sell the shelves either? Bah. How many people on craigslist are really selling shelves?

just buy another desk with shelves, then relist the desk for a higher price. thats what i did with one jerker desk i got for $45 that came with the extra top shelf and extensions, and a side swivel. i sold it for $120 :D

Extensions as in the bars on the side that support the top shelf, right?

Nicely done, someone bought the desk from you WITHOUT the top shelf included (since you kept it) and paid $120? Nuts.

I like the darker metal frame in the picture I quoted as opposed to the more grey metallic. Was that an option, or did someone just paint those or something?

i'll post a pic. no i didn't keep the top shelf, it was the wrong color to match my other 2 jerker desks. so i got another one that matched for $75 that had DOUBLE top shelves and double extensions LOL :D. new one didn't have swivels but thats ok. the darker metal frame is just the style that desk came in. i guess you could say painted by ikea themselves? ;)

So in that picture the bottom shelf (i.e. the big one) and one of the other shelves (i.e. the top shelf) are probably what the guy I saw on craigslist indicated is included? He didn't mention any extenders. I'll definitely need to contact him. I would've glady paid a bit more for a second shelf with extenders as in your pic, but without either I'm going to try and talk him down a bit.

the small shelf on top is the extension. the normal desk comes with the big shelf and the medium sized one. it normally looks like this without extensions, and what the desk itself came with (no extra's pictured save for possibly the swivel shelf)

Meh, still a nice desk, even without the additional shelves. The extensions and an additional "medium" shelf sure would be nice though. I'll have to think about it.

Just got my 1st Ikea desk all set up. Still might make some changes and my computer is a work in progress....

Loving the stainless!

It's an Ekby? or something. Costs about $400 out the door including the 2 stainless Lack shelves that I'm using for storage (they might go away though). I cut one of them shorter and with some welding on the one end you can't even tell it was done.

Got these specific shelf sliders online that are for keyboard drawers. I might take another stainless Lack shelf I have and shorten it and use it for a keyboard drawer. I've never had my keyboard on top of my desk so we'll see if I get used to it or not....

I think I posted this same pic in this thread before but it might clear up some confusion on the Jerker. There was only one model of Jerker that had the slide out shelves (on the table base) I believe which is pictured a few posts up.

Like the place where your card reader is. Does the SUB make the bench vibrate at loud thumps?
What case is that?

Ended up deciding that I am going to keep the two monitors in the corner of the desk. So now I need 15' DVI cables for my Galant...

Can't wait to finish putting all this up so that I can post a picture. I'm thinking about getting some shelving installed in the room as well, and put maybe my printer and stuff on there.

I know this is stupid, but does the 10 year warranty stay intact if you start drilling a few screw holes into the desk?

how is that desk holding up? does it scratch or wear easy? i really like and im thinking about buying one myself sometime.

I might be picking that up since I moved away from my 2407WFP and down to two 2209WA monitors. No built in card reader for me anymore :(
