how do you get bing cashback on buy.com? I serached for buy.com on bing search but dont see the cashback icon.

Also what is the free shiping code? and is it correct that it is being sold by "Beach audio" and not shipping / sold by buy.com?

it is already sold out.. i went to bing.com and clicked buy.com... if you change it to 7 business days shipping it is free. 2 day is 3 bucks... i am out off the country so the shipping doesnt matter to me

oh im still seeing it say "in stock" usually ships in 1-2 business days when i click the link you posted

160GB G2 drives are back in stock at Newegg for a somewhat more reasonable $629. Personally, I'll wait to pick up two of these at MSRP.

"reasonable"!?! since when is a $150+ premium over other retailers considered reasonable? Considering they were running about $450-$470 from other places, I say no thanks. Newegg has lost me as a customer for any future purchases.

Ditto to some degree.

I will only buy from newegg now if they're the absolute lowest price now.

Where before I'd buy from them even if they were a FEW dollars higher $5-20 since they had good / fast service, etc out of loyalty. But I really don't like their rape pricing of items, I'd rather it be out of stock at slightly above MSRP, than in stock at assrape prices. So they've lost my respect and loyalty.

I understand supply & demand, I have a minor in Economics! So don't give me that "S&D" crap. MSRP is like $229 for OEM right? SO mark it up $20-30 like most other reasonable retailers, they're still making a better margin, but not dangling an overpriced carrots at $350 for OEM and $380 for Retail box!

P.S. I now have an X25-M 80Gb on the way... for $100 cheaper than newegg! So I voted with my walled and will continue to do so (especially when I do my new Core i7 build soon).

So "C-rizzle" has a minor in Econ, huh? Congrats. Btw, you understand S&D, but you don't understand the concept of the "free market" or "value"? Back to Econ 101 for you. Ask the GA for some one-on-one tutoring.

Imagine if this was 2002 - these things would be selling for $500+ with the markup. Now that all the "free" money is gone, everyone is bitching about MSRP.

Or, maybe, don't buy from newegg? My 080G2 is from amazon, its already arrived, and it was only $230.
Vote with your wallet and stop bitching about newegg's pricing.

Maybe you should stop pimping Amazon, they've increased their prices as well ;) :D

at least a couple retailers have discontinued the G1 drives and i already have one, would there be issues with raid 0 if i were to pick up a G2 drive since they're not exactly identical?

I haven't read of anyone mixing G1 & G2s for RAID but I can't imagine why there would be a problem.

Go for it!

Yeah I used to recommend newegg to all friends who are looking to purchase electronics, not only computer parts. not anymore... this is out of hand

looks like theyre driving away a large loyal customer base here at [H]ard

They're of course free to charge what they wish. I've spent a lot of $$ at Newegg over the years (many many thousands), but now I'm looking at alternate places to purchase my pc parts from. I'll typically pay a few bucks more to buy from Newegg, but no longer.

Yeah really, I got my 80GB X25-M from Allstarshop last Friday*, $250 for the retail version w/S&H... I actually got pretty nice service from them so I bookmarked the site. What I don't understand is why people wouldn't go back to Newegg because of this, get over it jeez, a lot of other stores started price hiking right after Newegg did it so it's not like they were the sole standout. Last I saw ZZF still has the 80GB drive at $300+ as do a bunch of other stores...

*Technically my sister in NY got it (took exactly a week to ship from CA to NY via ground shipping w/FedEx)... Still waiting for her to send it to me in Puerto Rico. Hopefully she drops it off Monday so it has a chance to get here by Saturday. :p

No one is holding a gun to anyones head. If you don't like their price, don't buy. Its really that simple. Its not like SSD's are a life necessity

What you're forgetting is that Newegg jacked the price of the 80gb drive to $500 (actually one at $499 and one at $599). That was way past the point of just forgetting about it. Newegg's free to do that of course, and customers are free to remember Newegg's behavior next time they have things to buy. I've been a loyal Newegg customer for years, but they crossed the line this time.

I'm not forgetting it at all, in fact I made it a point to remind everyone of it about one page ago in the thread (for those that didn't understand the outrage directed at Newegg)... I just wouldn't let that govern my future shopping behavior, maybe that makes me a gutless customer but I could care less. Newegg has still given me pretty good service (the few times I've had an issue with them) and their prices/shipping are still generally the best option for me.

I could care less if they tried to price gouge on one item out of the dozens of purchases I've made with them, even if it was price gouging to the tenth power. Saying you'll never buy stuff there again because of one pricing incident that didn't affect you at all (just buy it elsewhere!) is like being a fanboy or loyal customer in reverse if you ask me. I mean, it's not like they tried to be sneaky about it or something, do you really expect them to have the best price all the time on everything w/o even checking what the MSRP should be? (let alone checking elsewhere if you think the price is so-so)

It's like saying "I won't buy item X from them because their price for item Y is too damn high!"

Pretty much, I don't understand how it makes any sense... I can almost see it if you're making a lot of large orders for an office or something (in which case, Newegg isn't even aimed at you), but otherwise it's silly. It's like saying "hey, I really want to get that VW GTI but the Phaeton they were selling a couple of years ago was such an overpriced POS that I'll never buy another VW again, on principle"...

The introduction of the Phaeton didn't affect you in any way, you've always been free to buy your car wherever you want, but somehow one overpriced model makes the entire lineup/company unscrupulous and worth punishing them and yourself over it? (by missing out on other current/future deals)

I can't believe this thread is still going. NewEgg's had them multiple times since the "debate" began, they've sold out each time, even at inflated prices. Loathe the impatient customers, not NewEgg.

Wow, they've really sold out at $350+? I had been checking it on occasion out of curiosity but hadn't seen it sold out since they put it up at $350, right now it's back up to $380 tho so clearly there's some demand even at those prices, go figure. I guess some people don't care to shop around and/or they have the money to throw around (probably why the more expensive 160GB version is out of stock even tho it's just as marked up),

Personally I haven't actually seen it out of stock at any place selling them for $300+ (unless they raised the price up from MSRP once it was out of stock), but I haven't been checking around much since I ordered mine last week. Seen plenty of other stores follow suit and raise prices to $300-ish tho.

At that point it's really customer idiocy driving the market more than anything, I mean, for $20-30 more than that you can get a 120GB Vertex instead... And for most people the extra 40GB easily offsets the minor performance difference a that point imo.

I got a retail box 160GB G2 for $529 from mwave last week, and UPS says it'll arrive tomorrow. If you put in an admittedly significant amount of effort, you can find them for close to MSRP.

What is funny is that I had bought one at MSRP, but Newegg refused to ship the drive to me. This was after they'd charged my card for it and after I explained to customer service that the recall didn't affect me and I wanted the drive shipped out instead of being held.

Not the best experience I could have had. I'll bet anything that if I contacted customer service and asked for them to sell me a drive at the original price (and remember I HAD an order in and paid before the recall) they wouldn't do it.

So I picked one up via Buy.com's Ebay store and after bing cashback and ebay bucks it was one hell of a deal. I have a few questions maybe some of you can answer:

1. Trim. I know what it does, but the firmware update for it isn't available yet is it? If so, will it work on the Windows 7 RC build?

2. Will I lose performance in the long haul if I don't use Trim until I install the Win 7 retail copy? Or when the firmware updates and the OS is out will the Trim command just kick in and keep things running smoothly? Basically I'm wondering if I should just let the drive sit around until I install the retail in a month.

3. What do you suggest for a good, reasonably priced enclosure?

That's a little off. We're not bagging on intel, we're bagging on newegg. They are taking advantage of uninformed or ignorant customers that may not be in the loop as to what's going on. Partially their fault, partially not. You're analogy is more akin to the recent Nissan GTR, some dealers were gouging the hell out of a limited production high demand car, and they are welcome to do so, but when I'm ready to buy a new Z, I won't go to those dealers.

Edit: I never thought the Pheaton was overpriced either. It doesn't have the Audi badge it probably should but it was running with the pack in terms of luxury and features (omnidirectional quad climite control, dual argon(?) paned windows, adaptive suspension, adaptive cruise, and so on). Since I have an '07 GTI, that hit home.

1. Trim will be supported in a future firmware for the G2 only. You'll need to update the firmware for it and it will be supported natively in Win7 RC.

2. Not really, the G2 keeps 90+% of its "new" performance even without TRIM. Its been optimized to work with out TRIM support.

3. $10 for a basic 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, assuming you're putting it in a case. I personally plan on just sitting mine in the bottom of the case. I don't move the case around, and it doesn't have moving parts that would cause it to vibrate ie: which would require mounting like a normal HD.

I can't believe newegg sold out of the OEM X25-M's at $350 and only have the Retails in stock for $380!!
Get one from Amazon or buy.com both have had inventory on & off for about $230-260 the past 2 weeks.

Newegg didn't "refuse" to ship it out to you because it was for planned price gouging or what-not, it was because the drive you bought was flawed and Intel issued a recall.

You are reading into things I didn't say.

Newegg had shipped out some drives, so clearly it wasn't the end of the world to ship them out. I stated that I knew of the recall and it didn't affect me so they should have sent it along anyway. My card had been charged and the product marked as out for shipment so it was boxed up at the dock and ready to go.

What I am assuming is that if I contact customer service and ask for a drive at the price they had originally sold it to me for they would refuse to match the price. Maybe I'll mail them and see.

Your card charge was just a pending transaction. They obviously refunded your money and it's apparent you didn't really overdraft or go beyond your credit limit, so I don't see why you keep bringing it up. Newegg released the charge once they withheld the drive because they were defective, despite the flaw not affecting you, but me personally, I would rather have a drive that works fine rather than having a flawed drive just for the sake of impatience.

I doubt pricematching would work out either, since Newegg is obviously confident these drives are worth far more than their slated suggested retail pricing, as supply and demand factors have shifted price upwards. If that doesn't work out, you'll just have to wait like the rest of us who know we're not about to be gouged, but for those who can't wait, they obviously are fine with paying more.

It's too bad that you missed out, I'm sure the world certainly stopped revolving because of your experiences with Newegg.

I can sympathize with the people who had orders in with the original price and had their orders cancelled. They jumped and bought the drive, then their orders were canceled at no fault of their own. Newegg should've at least offered the people who bought these drives the option to keep their order open and have them fulfilled once they were back in stock. Instead, Newegg just canceled the orders then proceeded to jack up the prices leaving all the early buyers to either wait or buy drives at marked up prices.

Granted Newegg has the right to do this... it's just terrible customer service and I think that's what everyone is up in arms about.

I remember reading you whole Newegg "problem thread" and the only problem was, and maybe still could be if you contact CS, you. :D

G2 80G was in stock at buy.com for a good 6 hrs sunday. got it for $218 ABC.

can these threads come to an end soon?

Man mine was only $10 cash back! I think the cashback for buy.com was 3-4% when I ordered on sunday?

Heh, you're right, the analogy was a little off in both regards... Regardless, the experience wouldn't phase me from visiting Newegg (or those dealers) again. I mean, think about it, if you weren't in the market for an SSD right now you'd never be the wiser anyway. The uninformed consumer gets raped on a daily basis anyway, whether it's by Newegg or by Best Buy and every other retail outlet.

Pretty much, I don't understand how it makes any sense... I can almost see it if you're making a lot of large orders for an office or something (in which case, Newegg isn't even aimed at you), ...

If newegg isn't aiming at businesses, then why do they often put a quantity limit of 99 on things like systemboards? What kind of enthusiast wants to buy 100+ systemboards at once? I ran into this issue several times and had to split up orders over a week or so.

My big gripe is trust. It used to be that I didn't have to spend my day price shopping for items, I could just go to newegg and order it, knowing that it's either the best or very close to the best price on the net. That trust is gone. I don't have time to shop around all day, this isn't a hobby.

AFAIK you will need a firmware update and a driver update (the standard Intel Storage Matrix drivers aren't passing TRIM calls thru right now IIRC)... But as others stated, it shouldn't be a big deal to use it without TRIM support for a few months, read some of Anandtech's articles on SSD if you want a whole enchilada of exact details on the subject.

As far as enclosures... You're mounting it outside as an external? Why? I'd probably avoid that unless it's an e-SATA enclosure... For mounting it inside the case, the retail-boxed versions actually come with a 2.5"-to-3.5" bracket. I wanted to mount mine in a 5.25" bay instead so I bought this Lian-Li 2.5"-to-5.25" bracket... I had seen a plastic Scythe one as well that holds three 2.5" drives but the LiLi seems to be much better constructed (and still holds two 2.5" drives if you ever wanna go RAID). Coolerguys seems to have the Lian-Li far cheaper than anyone else btw (cheaper than the plastic brackets too).

If you want a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter instead and you bought the OEM version of the X25-M then Newegg has dozens of those adapters available. I went with the 2.5" to 5.25" because I had empty bays at the bottom of my case and it fit my setup better that way anyway.
