Forza 3... Who's Getting It?

None of those PC sims give a fun and in depth single player and none have big car lists. Gameplay is more important than graphics... but that doesn't mean graphics aren't important ;) Things like shadows being cast across the track is something that I've been missing in GTR evo.

Rfactor has a bigger car list then forza 1 and 2 combined due to the amount of mods/cars you can download http://www.rfactorcentral.com/list.cfm?cat=Cars

edit: here is a work in progress mod that has some of the gran tourismo cars. 113 cars will be in this mod when its done http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Gran Turismo

Mods usually lack polish and are inconsistent (I've raced some F1 mods which were pathetically easy). The number of "good" mods is no where near as many as the number of average ones.

I'd much rather a game that had a couple of hundred cars made by the actual game developers than a game with 20 to 30 cars official cars and a thousand community made ones. Both from the perspective of online play and offline.

That still doesn't take into account the fun and in depth singleplayer career.

Some new cars showed up today... some maybe not so new. :D

The developer decided more cars on track would entail graphics and other trade offs.

8 cars is below expectations for a next gen racer. But if it allowed them to dramtically improve from Forza 2, and since the mainstream would probably take 8 cars with better graphics, they made the right decision for their business.

For good reason. Nothing against Forza, but GT is a lot bigger in scope.

Actually, Forza has always been a lot bigger in scope than GT. We can't say that about GT5 yet though, since we don't know much about it.

This is why GT5p has 16 cars. The bang out the graphics for 16 cars on the track, but they are light years behind in physics. There is a trade off. The PS3 (nor the 360) couldn't handle the 16 cars on the track with the top notch graphics AND the physics that Forza is calculating. Forza sacrificed the number of cars for physics, and GT sacrifices physics for the number of cars.

This is why one is the "driving" simulator, and the other is the "racing" simulator.

How so? GT has had rally and traditionally more cars.

That's just speculation. You dont know what's going on behind the scenes in these games. One game may have more or less physics, or one game may just calculate them more efficiently, or one game may have more complicated AI (note: I didn't say "better" I said more complicated, thus more resource intensive), Forza might be GPU bottlenecked while GT may be CPU bottlenecked or vice versa. Maybe GT has better LOD bias allowing for more cars, maybe Forza 3 has more filters which are consuming resources, maybe Forza is badly coded and can't deal with more AI and is running into a CPU bottleneck. There's way too many factors to simply say "this is why GT has 16 cars and Forza has 8". Its not like a PC game where you can change settings or change hardware to see where one game starts to bottleneck. They're 2 games running on 2 different systems using 2 different game engines, unless you have the inside scoop from both PD and T10 programmers and testers, you just can't say.

You're saying that we should not jump to ridiculous conclusions on the two games before passing definitive judgments based on PR fluff, a few screenshots, and some 40 second videos at this point? Sounds perfectly intelligent. That simply won't fly in this thread, sorry, this is the thread where people have returned from time traveling in the future and played both games for hundreds of hours. If you're careful and respectful and stop spouting this rational nonsense, they might start giving us sneak peaks again.

:)

This is utter bollocks.

I might as well state that Forza sacrificed their car count because of RROD issues. Just like what you've stated, it's pure bullshit. Could both speculations be true? Perhaps.

Fly your 'fact' over at GTPlanet in the Forza thread.

Why don't we wait until the games are out and compared, rather than proclaiming speculation as fact?

I bet the people at GTplanet would be as unbiased as the people in the forums on xbox.com when it comes to GT. Great idea.

To state matter of factly GT5 can have 16 cars on track because the physics aren't as advanced is poorly informed speculation. It doesn't make sense.

Just in case there's still some confusion... this is the Forza 3 thread. Not the GT5 / R Factor / NFS Shift etc thread.

I am and have been there for awhile. You can see me posting under my same name. Thanks though!

Your opinion is noted.

GT5 physics > GT5 Prologue.

No reason to think they had to dumb down physics with 16 cars. I believe tire deformation is in the game. We still haven't seen the weather.

16 cars and amazing >720p visuals. Cell is a beast. I can't wait to learn more about the damage modeling. 8 cars versus 16 saves room for other things. Much like targeting 720p instead of 1080p. They came a long ways from F2. Maybe they could pull off weather in F4 or go for 16 cars. I'm sure F3 will sell enough to warrant another sequel in the next few years. I expect both games to have a lot of DLC. GT6 might be a next gen title.

When did you get GT5?

GT5's physics will be evolved from GT:p.

I see you're registered at GT planet. Surely you've seen the thread with the ZR1's tire deformation ? Prologue doesn't have rain, which is in GT5. Simulating weather is a physics oriented feature. By the time GT5 ships at the end of this year, Prologue will be 2 years old. It's amazing PD can release such a polished beta.

Forza wants to be The Definitive Racing Game

"Suitably excited, we were let loose on the game. The graphics proved to be impressive, on the whole, if not quite photo-realistically breathtaking."

"But strangely enough, when things are going smoothly, it can feel a bit too, well, smooth. It almost feels like you're driving some kind of magic carpet, hovering just above the track itself. A real feeling of movement and feedback is difficult for a game to accurately create, admittedly, but we couldn't help but feel slightly detached."

I've seen a video of F3 where a car is cresting a hill and it kind of floats.

Could you try any harder? I'm assuming you've never seen the hydraulic rig? I find it hilarious that as soon as you get clued into a potential negative... BOOM, you're in the thread and posting about it. Shame you've neglected to post any of the positives which have come out of the previews, racers playing with the game, people at E3 etc. You're so obvious.

By the way, can you link the vid with the floating car?

What's your explanation going to be ? The suspension physics weren't turned on in the video ?

I'll try and dig it up. I saw it about a month ago.

Yea, that relationship doesn't add any bias that I could see. Similar to the bias you express on a game you will never own, never played in a genre, and/or own that type of console but feel you can provide information from GT5 based on your viewing of a few trailers and stating them as fact.
I guess in your situation, if you throw out enough claims you can always come back to <10% of them a few years later and indicate you were ahead of the curve.

Their reviews for a multi-billion dollar car industry are gospel, but they'll sell out all integrity for chump change ? I think the youtube video shows they are not totally exaggerating about the magic carpet smoothness. Who knows, it might be a design goal ? Like the way the ring was changed to "enhance" MP. Top Gear has more credibility than most "game journalists".. :D

Why are you guys even bothering with him? He's time traveled and played it, and knows all the specs and flaws before Turn Ten even does.

Just give up to the superior knowledge.

It's funny how I always have back up for my "time traveling."

I posted a news bit on Top Gear commenting about something I noticed a month ago. Instead of trying to prove why I'm wrong (a futile effort since everyone can see the float, ) resort to attacking the messenger ? :(

Do you ever get tired of being a schill? Of flogging something on such an apparent personal basis for such a faceless corporation? How did you choose which large multinational you would choose to flak for? What personal stake do you get out of tireless blind loyalty to a particular product line?

These questions really do fascinate me, the answers would provide some awesome insights.

(a futile effort since everyone can see the float)
Here's a challenge for you. Show the same thing that isn't clearly a replay bug. There's lots of gameplay footage, and I'm sure that you have some stored up for just such an occasion. If you don't, I'm certain GT Planet / PS3Forums will come to your aid.

(By the way, given you've made your feelings on the game, the platform and fans of the game clear... surely your presence here at this point is just to troll?)

Oh... and just to give some perspective, here's some of the things Stereophile has had to say in this thread (I've cut out most of the rambling about GT5):

I heard the frame rate chokes in cockpit view. How bad is it ?
Turn 10 implemented weather and a day/night cycle ? Forza 3 MEGATON
* img *

It's all a joke, photochops from the forza forum. Maybe they'll try again in Forza 4 ? ;)
If you're eating king crab, you don't need to taste the "krab" salad to know it's a poor imitation.
The short development time didn't afford them the opportunity to refresh everything. Some of the tracks have been updated but others like the Nordschleife appear to reuse old data.
The landscaping is haphazardly placed, nobody will mistake that screenshot for the real thing. The track curves the right way, but they took liberty with the scenery.

*img*

Another thing some have noticed, compared to the real track, the carousel in forza 3 is much wider than it should be, and the grass berm is missing.
We haven't seen GT5's Ring, but I doubt it will be hard to improve on Forza 3's.
IMO the reviews and consensus will go with Gran Turismo 5, by a mile.
These threads are usually slow anyways. You'd think Forza fans would appreciate any bumps they can get, to keep it on the front page.
8 cars is below expectations for a next gen racer. But if it allowed them to dramtically improve from Forza 2, and since the mainstream would probably take 8 cars with better graphics, they made the right decision for their business.

Surely. And most agreed that the bullshot was showing clipping, so I don't get your point?

10 pages of the review...finds a negative piece on PAGE 8, and disregards the rest of the review. But yet when the last time GT was released (GT4), Top Gear ridiculed it for floating feelings of cars, not feeling connected to the road, you don't mention that?

Sounds good.

I don't mention comments on a 5 year old game as a valid equalizer against what they just said about a new game coming in 2 months, and that's a big deal ? :p

Do I need to quote you from earlier this year doubting if GT5 would have damage ? Weren't you banned from something you said in the GT5 thread ? What happened ?

Oh... and just to give some perspective, here's some of the things Stereophile has had to say in this thread (I've cut out most of the rambling about GT5):

Remember when I said GT5 would have weather and you denied it ? And I had to post a pdf from the Audi website ?
You two might not like what I say, but you don't have valid counter arguments. It always comes down to the same thing, name calling and whining. Definitive my ass.

Really, I wonder if you'd answer the questions. Whether it's spamming killzone gifs like the best forum warriors out there, posting nothing positive about any game not on your sole console of choice, or shitting up any thread that's again not related to your chosen corporate masters, you're eminently predictable.

Did you roll dice one day and say gee, I'm going to not only buy products from only one company, but I'm also going to make it my personal crusade to devote time and energy to slagging off everything else? How did you decide which one you'd be a cheerleader for?

Yeah I got banned, for mocking your posting proclivities. Probably happen again once you click report on this post, but I really don't care. You only need to look at your posts in a thread like this to see it's true that you'd rather troll specific games than actually enjoy gaming or have any meaningful discussion. That's your bag, and you're good at it, but it's really nothing but sad at this point.
