Get your PC Resident Evil 5 benchmark program!

I just watched a couple of youtube videos of RE5 gameplay and how can they call this Resident Evil?

it's very much an action game now.

there's no shortage of tension on your first playthrough, it's a very good game. i wouldn't exactly call it scary though at any parts.

That's what I was thinking. I'm sure this is a great game but this is not Resident Evil. It's a simple shoot em up game like Gears of War, nothing more. Like I've already said, I sure hope 6 goes back to Survival Horror.

2 comments on the demo.

1. Holy screen tearing Batman!
2. DX10 is about 5FPS faster than DX9 for me in the Variable Benchmark.

Its cause the RE series has moved from the mystery too. Now were fighting them. Its why all the games have become more action. Design choice said in an interview somewhere.

Another couple test shows absolutely zero performance hit from running MSE. It's a good thing :)

Getting the same bombed fps in the 3rd section.

I've noticed changing the Stereo option in the config.ini from off to on, will cost you about 5fps on average. Also changing the HDR from low to high doesn't seem to have any effect on performance whatsoever nor any really noticeable difference in the visuals. The overall quality option shows up as custom, but the change seems nonexsistent.

The people with 4800's getting terrible framerates on part 3, I just want to say that is really weird. My framerate doesn't plummet like that at all during that section. I'm using 9.6cats.

Going from no AA to max 16XQ. I dropped from 92 to 68 FPS. Seems pretty reasonable and optimized.
nice graphics nice framerate but TERRIBLE gameplay, man this not resident evil this is serious sam 2 with zombies and friendly AI in third person view :(
Weird question ... does image shack automatically provide you with thumbnails or do you have to make them?

The dogs look cool, I can't really call them cerberus's, they look more like black labs lol. Not very menacing looking. Much better than the seemingly generic and sparse dogs that were in re4.

to the above poster,
imageshack provides thumbnail codes for images, just copy and paste.

I get pretty crappy frames with my 4890 compared to people with nvidia cards. I'm pretty sure my system isn't the problem either...

It wont let me screen shot for some reason (it just shows up as a black box in ps) so I had to take a pic of it.

This is with a i7 920 @4.0, 4890 950/1100, 6gb ram.

All settings max 8xaa

That is the worst logic I have ever heard.
No, you are :p .

But seriously, Capcom handed the project to a shitty developer, gave them an inferior version to work from, and allowed it to be released unfinished and with no QA on their part. They may not have made it themselves, but none of it happened without their approval, and that makes them responsible.

Any reason why your are running it with 8xaa? That's most definitely killing your framerate, probably as much as 15 to 20 fps. Anything more than 4x imo is just overkill anyway, unless you are playing an older game and you want to crank everything up and performance is not an issue.

But that still wouldn't explain the incredibly low fps during the 3rd section.

This is what my scores average out to with my 4870. plus or minus a few

People with 260s are running 16xQa or w/e its called and getting double my fps at 2xaa.

This nvidia bias is bullshit

Yeah i was expecting much better with my 4890, but its probably still bugged and needs more optimization for ati cards. Perhaps a new driver will make it run better when the game officially comes out or something.

Downloading now, going to test it at 5040x1050. We'll see if the game's FOV is hor+ or vert-.

Lets hope it's hor+ like Devil May Cry 4, and not vert- like Street Fighter 4.

Really, this imo points more to something being broken more than bias, despite it having an nvidia logo.

ATI performed very well in DMC4, so the mysterious performance plummet leaves one wondering. I am sure either Capcom or ATI will get it worked out.

Just ran the benchmark at 5040x1050, max settings, no AA.

Ran about 30FPS all the way through, looks amazing.

I get about 60fps average DX10 1680x1050, not too shabby! Good work again Capcom :p

Guys the fps drop on ati is a driver issue, that's all.

too bad ATI takes a month to put out a driver, unlike nvidia which sometimes shits them out at an absolutely alarming rate (beta ones at least). :(

Didn't you RE5 whingers play RE4 at all? The main flaw to RE5's gameplay is it hasn't evolved from RE4 besides co-op... not because "omg it's soooo totally different that it's not Resident Evil anymore!!!"

Capcom signing a paper doesn't mean they had anything to do with porting it on a technical level which is what people are pissed about. Capcom didn't even publish the game ffs. If anything Ubisoft is to blame for letting a shitty port out.

When a good movie is butchered by bad acting who do you blame? The Writers? get real.

It's not an alarming rate. It's when it makes sense i.e. bug fixes required or new games are released. Benefits of the TWIMTBP program no doubt. Having to wait a month to get working drivers for a new game, was never a good solution. Don't really understand why AMD sticks with it...

Someone picked these terrible actors, someone watched them butcher their scenes day after day, and in the end, someone decided the movie was still good enough to release. They all share the blame; it's their job to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen.

16x10 all High no AA on a 9600gso. Scored a B, not shabby for a 40 dollar video card.

That does look amazing.

Anyone have any dual GTX 295's @ 2560x1600 that have ran this benchmark? I'm curious if even 2xAA is possible at a steady average of 60fps. I was running 2xAA at the mid-high 40's on my setup listed in my sig.

I'm fairly sure two GTX295's in SLI will be able to drive it at 2560x1600 with 4x AA while maintaining 60FPS :p

Don't worry most of those drivers that they have been pumping out aren't very stable. It has been months since Nvidia has released a truly solid driver.

I never played RE4 since I don't own a console anymore and I loved Resident Evil when I was younger. I played the hell out of the first Resident Evil, it was truly original and was actually scary. What is cooler than walking around in a Mansion loaded with zombies with very little ammo?

What are you talking about? RE4 gameplay is perfect as it is, it can't evolve anymore.

Was sort of disappointed. Hopefully it's just a driver issue, as with every option on as high as it could go @1920x1200, I was getting 31-33 fps. Mind you, it never dropped below 31, but it never went above 33 either. And my video card fans were very quiet, so it didn't sound like it was trying as hard as it could.

Yea I'll give nvidia that. Their beta drivers appear so frequently it's crazy!

Area 3, of the benchmark, really slowed down my system. Perhaps it is this ATI crossfire bug which was mentioned in this thread.
I ended up with a "B" ranking with 2x AA everything maxed at 1920x1200 and a "C" ranking with 8xAA.

I'll probably wait till [H] does a review before I go out and buy another 295. If I can find a dual card one for that matter anyway.

Try to run in DX9 - I didn't get any dips below 60 in DX9, but my results look just like yours in DX10 (Single 4890, Windows 7 RC)

Personally I'm with you...the 'flaw' I mentioned is a bit of a stretch in my opinion, but it's the most often cited con to most reviews. Being able to move while aiming would've been nice, though.

Resident Evil 4 was original too (it came out years before Gears of War and was apparently a major gameplay influence for GeoW) and gave the franchise the good hard kick in the pants that it needed. RE's horror switched from cheap jump-scares to a constant sense of tension resulting from crowds of enemies that can get you at any point in the map. RE5 didn't move away from that very much at all, although I'm sure people are pissy that there are *gasp* daylight levels now.
