LCD TVs Kill Kids

Can we clear this once and for all that Darwin never coined the idea survival of the fittest, Herbert Spencer did. I don't know why people keep preserving social competition under Darwin's name. Herbert Spencer was in his own league.

To everyone preaching survival of the fittest and natural selection: that's the worst fucking thing I've ever heard. If you can honestly watch a child die because his curiosity led him to climb onto a TV, you need serious psychological assistance - now. As if the child was supposed to understand Newton's laws of motion from birth, and since his parents never explained the dangers of climbing things, its perfectly fine for him to die. Right. I guess emergency services should be abolished as well; after all, those who cannot defend themselves should go ahead and die. Love, compassion, kindness: those things interfere with natural selection! We can't let that happen!

Population problem? Yeah, there is a population problem: we have far too many arrogant elitist assholes who don't give a shit about anyone in this world except themselves (and "the species"). Why don't you guys just go kill yourselves? In a world with too many people, it's the logical thing to do.

/ (perfectly justified) rant

I wish you were right. I do, you are a true idealist.
Oh btw, thank you for assuming so much about some people you do not know and don't know what they've gone through. You have a truly inventive imagination and a heartly hand.
Also thank you parents, teachers and preachers. They have thaught you very well.
Oh and btw say hi to the Terrorists and the Comunists Chinese on my behalf, when you see them ask them if they profess all that what you mention.
On the meantime I'll get myself and my children ready for the time when all your missused ideals finally brings us down.
Have a good and prosperous life. I really wish you well because of all of your good intentions.

Well lots of TV stands and bodies are pretty damn crappy. I have this TV that makes loud cracking noises during the day and night because it is perpetually settling and the plastic joints are too tight so they expand and contract making louse noises as they slip. No shit it's an actual TV earthquake. You can walk up to the TV and press it with 1 finger and it will make loud cracking noises in the body of the set. The thing actually wakes me up at night it can get so loud! In fact as I was writing this it just happened. There are no cracks anywhere in the TV... yet.

So why haven't you taken it out back and given it the Ol' Yeller treatment yet? :p

doesn't anyone here have children for themselves? whose fault is it really? the kids? or the parent's for not child proofing their homes? toddlers will be toddlers... its a parenting problem.

this is just like blaming video games for children shooting their classmates. its not the tv's fault, its the parent's fault

All LCD TVs should come with a nifty Darwin fish sticker.

It never ceases to amaze me how (the lack of) parental responsibility is never to blame for child deaths - it's always a movie, a video game, a pro-wrestling program, and now big TVs.

you know, if you throw a penny off the roof of a tall building, it could hit a kid and kill it.

maybe there should be laws that prevent people from entering tall buildings with spare change in their pocket.

spare change, the silent killer. who knew?

i say treat kids like animals. put an electric fence around your expensive gear. or maybe tv companies should market electrified surfaces for their LCD panels to deter sticky children fingers.

or maybe everytime someone touches the tv before entering the secret code, some kind of heinous odor emits from the rear of the panel that temporarily blinds and deafens anyone within 2 yards of the panel. it'd be like some kind of pavlov thing. eventually people would learn to stay the fuck away from your shit. kids are the people in this situation.

how many children have walked into schools and killed their fellow class mates with LCDs?

how many children have walked into schools and killed their fellow class mates with guns?

duhhhhhhhhhhhh eeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr
*bangs head on wall till blood comes out ears*

it means parents are not supervising their children for that to happen.. children dont raise them selves.. it takes parents to raise them...

kids have been raised by the tv for generations now, now the tv shows its true colours. :D

I had a cat once, he use to like to sit atop of my Sony G400 monitor, then one day I wake up hearing him caugh up a hairball while sitting on the monitor, a loud sizzle and one of them died, the other got sent to the pound!

You're totally heartless you should have said "one of them died, and the other one died after I sent it to the pound". Cats have no concept of electronics, you allowed it to sit up there so it was your fault, not the poor cat's fault. Surely irony would be that you get euthanasied by PETA, I'm sure they would do it too.

I wouldn't mind if LCDs had base anchor mounts, similar to the standard-sized VESA mounting holes. I would mount it down to the stand and that could help protect it from tipping over during an earthquake.

iw ish i could, but my stand is glass :p :D

Can't we just lock the kid in a dungeon and hopefully remember in 18 years time to let it out? Win-win situation: kid is safe until adulthood, and more/most importantly, TV is safe!

thats like telling teenager not to have sex

No, thats like telling a teenager not to climb on your entertainment center when there is a mall with a rock climbing wall down the road.

What plant did you learn your logic from while smoking it?

Tbh, I say don't wall mount TV's, don't include safety features or anything. Either be a good parent and whoop thier ass each time they mess arround with the TV or help take part in population control because in 100% cold hearted seriousness, there are too many people in the world right now.

LCD's are just a clever ploy by the secret underground governments trying to thin out the population so that the rest of us can enjoy our lives and natural resources for a few more years. we have to figure out how to get rid of people some how. what better way to do it than gigantic 52" surround sound stereolithic televisions that can mount on your wall and give you the illusion of space saving even though the same space is still being utilized by a television.

a television with high definitionism and pretty pictures and boobs.

i say we start handing out pamphlets to families detailing the benefits of leaving the childrens playpen directly below wall mounted televisions and let the pieces fall where they may.

only god can prevent wall mounted lcd's from crushing babies. who are we to try and stop him. he does have a plan you know.

This is one freaking hilarious thread...thanks guys. You really made my day!

In all seriousness though, in a few weeks I'll be buying a samsung 52" and if any kid (mine or relatives) knock over my TV, I'm selling them on the black market to recover the $$.

whats wrong with making your house impervious to safety?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm all for safety proofing things. I just don't think that's quite what Steve was going for.

OH SHIT. We better level all of the rock cliffs and cut down all the trees. Kids may want to climb them! Why don't you go get started on that?

Parents should take reasonable actions to safeguard their children, but nobody is a better teacher than the kids themselves. Sometimes the only way they will learn is the hard way. You will never be able to protect a kid at all times. It would be like teaching a baby to walk without ever falling.

Holy shit man, seriously get a grip. It's a fucking joke.

Two words. WALL MOUNT

/thread

That said, my kids have been taught to never touch the TV. Not because I was worried about it crushing them, because I did not want their snotty little finger tracks all over it.

Sorry, It's survival of the fittest for a reason,

When I was a Kid no one wore a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads or gloves when riding a bike,
those who did were Dorks and wore helmets, and those who did wore them all the time.

No padded dashes, they were Steel and hard as a rock.
No kid seats in the car, heck dad let us sleep in the back window, which was fine until he stomped on the brakes.
no socket protectors in the home, go ahead stick a penny, hair pin, or fork in one.

it's better to weed out the idiots when they are younger and smaller, so that they don't plunder through life without a clue and take out a farmer's market in their car or something.

When I was a kid I used to like trying to stick my dad's staples into the electrical outlet. I don't know how I'm alive.

Anyways, a wall-mount should fix that right up as long as there aren't any loose cords for the kid to tug on. My old roommate had two cats, and I was pretty surprised to realize that my "ideal" setup was pretty much a death trap for a cat. There are wires to chew on, webcams to knock off the desk, things to fall on them... etc etc.

Long story short -- wall mount your LCD or don't have kids. Your call.

Or a better idea yet... do you really NEED a TV? It's a choice, not a need. If parents cant control their kids and their kids are injured or killed, perhaps the parents are to blame?

Its like a kid falling out of a tree while mom and dad is watching TV, they could be charged with negligence, hows this any different?

So that way the kid grows up thinking mommy and daddy have to be there to protect them all the time? Heaven forbid the kid gets some freedom without somebody policing them every action they take... Might as well chain them in the basement so they never get out of sight. :p

Under and over-parenting is usually the problem to 99.99999% of the problems we see on these kid threads.

fixed
