Post your "rate my cables" here

Heres my overclocking explosion waiting to happen one of these days. Its an Aerocool masstige if your wondering, I painted it in 06 when i was 15, the paint had a black cap on :(, So bite me. If you have any wiring tips, let me know, These things are very bad to work with as you can see. Im very tempted to grow some and order a PC-A05B and call it a day.

Lithotech: The pleasure was all mine, as you can probably tell from the flood of pics I posted. With all the jaw-dropping hardcore mods and custom case designs that people are showing off elsewhere, it was nice to find a place where something as simple as a clean cable layout gets noticed.

Zenshi: I wish the back of my mobo tray looked like yours. Sorry for the pic spamming, but I think putting these two pics next to eachother should make for an interesting compare & contrast...

Wouldn't it make more sense to run your Tuniq Tower Vertically so that the fan is blowing out the exhaust fan?

All I can say is zOMG WOW!!!
Doctor Destructo, you sir have inspired me. I was looking around for some modding/cable hiding ideas for my new build [in an Antec 1200]. You should sell those, I would buy them!!!

Anyway, Here's some pics of my current rig.

Stealthd Drive

It's in need of a little finish work still and it is disgustingly dusty, but it also has now window, so...

Here's a preview of my new 1200, E8500 on the way. Needs a new PSU too.

The H bracket does not fit on the UD3 motherboards since the k8 holes hit the north bridge cooler. So unless you mod it, you have to mount it that way. Temps are actually not that bad. Also judging from the amount of dust it gathers in 2 weeks, looks like its getting decent air.

Heres an update with the I7 Rig up and running, window not finished yet, need to buy more plexi glass (cracked the one i bought while cutting the 120mm fan whole with my jig saw, and suggestions for this?)

I have absolutely no experience in cutting any stuff like that, but if you have not already, then maybe putting some sticky tape over the area where you are cutting might keep it together.

Tape it and use a hole saw, that's my thoughts.

Excellent to know that CookiePuss could safe house me in the event of a real fallout. Modred189:How quiet is that Atom build? Wow, Destructo's Antec 1200 looks sick. What a wonderfully wire friendly case. And Zenshi's back side cabling looks like a wiring diagram! I'm afraid mine's as bad as Destructo's. And all the wires get mashed too. :(

Well I just moved back to the Stacker from the Best Buy Rocketfish. It's more solidly built, keeps things quieter due to the steel vs aluminum, and has better ventilation up front. I put some work into the HDD cables and kinda missed the dampening they provided over the RF's rubber washer grommets. I'll probably add another Arctic Cooling fan in the back so I can have a 3 fan tower in the middle like the front. Those fans push at least double the air of the 1200RPM SFLEX w/ similar noise patterns. The whole thing's quieter now that it's out of the pingy, pangy aluminum RF and I can finally slap stuff like my CD case up top without fear of scratching the damn thing.

Be gentle...I ran out of black zipties. :(

That's exactly what I wanted to do w/ the drives, but never got around to it. Looks excellent.

Lots of nicely wired rigs lately, and very few bad ones.

I guess Casper's could use some work, but his only options are probably to buy a new case or get out the Dremel and start cutting.

Jodiuh, kittysniper, and Krame all made good use of the cable managment options that their hardware had to offer-- or added new options in some cases.

jonniefive: Your current rig looks great and I hope you plan to give your new 1200 the same level of TLC.

Skyline: Your rig is one of the tidiest I've seen in a while. It wasn't too bad even before you cut the holes but now it's near perfection. If only you could do something about that ugly ribbon cable on the expansion card near the bottom of the mobo. But that's really getting nitpicky.

Darren700: Hopefully you'll clean up the edges of that hole you cut in front of the PSU, but it does fix a flaw in the 1200's cable management. I would have done the same thing if I had been willing to cut into my case. I also would have cut a hole toward the rear of the PSU, and a few additional holes in back of the drive rack that were actually big enough to route cables through without removing the connectors, and some holes in the hollow vertical support beam behind the mobo tray so that I could ziptie cables to it and/or route them through it, and yet another hole or two underneath the mobo, and even more holes in the... um... well, I guess that would be enough holes. It will be interesting to see how you manage the side fan wiring without having a split in the window to hide it behind. However you do it, I would definitely recommend routing it so that it connects at the top front corner of the case, if possible, rather than at the bottom rear, like mine. Taking the side panel off and putting it back on will be much easier, and will require less slack in the fan cable. Another suggestion: replace those flourescent green cables with something less flashy, like black.

@ illuminate: Thanks for your kind words. I look forward to seeing your system. There are some really NICE systems posted here.

@Dr. Destructo: Man if I had the clean layout of your rig, I would care less what the back looked like. By the way, thanks for the info on those caps. I am going to go looks for Nachos. I have a feeling even if I have the right material, I still wont be able to make those caps. Still thinking of putting some more things in later so I will have to figure out how to lay out the wires once they are in. But this is much later when I can actually afford to buy stuff again. Thanks.

I really like the bumble bee sort of theme u have going in there.. the black and yellow everywhere. plus honeycomb vents.

Haha thanks! Sorry for the delayed response, i just saw your comment. I've been trying to commit to a color scheme for a while now but i haven't been able to. I was thinking red, orange, yellow, or something along those lines. Any suggestions?

many thanks for the compliments from the man with the most insane cabling job
i wish i had the patience and skill to make something that downright sexy

Thanks for the compliments guys, it took a while to get everything cut the way it ended up. The original ones were done with a drill for just the ATX and SATA cables but neither were big enough so I figured I mine as well go for it so long as my lungs were full or metal chips. :D

That's exactly what I wanted to do w/ the drives, but never got around to it. Looks excellent.

It's not really noticeable but they're actually screwed up. I did a quick measure and after I finished drilling not all four holes lined up. Eventually I'm gonna buy a small piece of scrap aluminum from PPCs, mount the drive cages on it, then screw it down to the case floor.

Damm im loving rocketfish cases, wish i can afford one

You can find them pretty cheap on eBay or Craigslist. I have two back home but needed one for my college pc so I bought one on eBay for about $50 after Live cashback back in November, sold it on Craigslist for about $70 when I parted out.

Thanks, it's def not as nice as yours but it's a constant work in progress when I'm home. That ribbon cable definitely pisses me off so I might swap it out for a Xonar or I might go back to an X-Fi; gotta upgrade my HDs first though. If I was home more I'd just buy a DAC and pull out the analog card (The ribbon cable links the analog and digital cards for my EMU) but it's not really worth the money for me right now. I'd like to also sleeve or loom the SATA and power cables for the optical but it would be a pain since I ran out of sleeving so it'll probably be put on an indefinite hold.

I'm in the process of sleeving some things right now. Hopefully it turns out. I did a murdermod style sleeving job on an ATX extender to start out. It turned out ok, but not as good as I thought. I'm super picky, and all my heatshrink didn't line up. :p But.. I guess it won't really matter since you won't be able to tell once it's plugged in.

Nice job man. Looks pretty slick. I'd like to do that at some point as well. I love the look of it.

Guys, where do I buy the clips skyline889 used to attached the fan to his CPU heatsink!?

Those come with the TRUE 120. The newer TRUE's even come with two sets of them. If not, you can always buy extra sets at any retailer that sells Thermalright products. They cost about $2 to $5 depending on the store.
