Oh, man, I hope these drivers fix this issue as well for me. My rates drop in half whenever I do an in game "wait" for any amount of time. I have to alt-tab out and back in and then they go back up. Not a huge deal but it can sometimes get annoying. I'll install these drivers when I get home and see if it makes a difference. Fingers crossed. :)
 
Any ideas? I have been blue screening on reboot with the 8.12 drivers. I went back to the 8.9 i think, and everything works fine.

I booted into safe mode, cleared out old drivers with uninstall and driver sweeper.. I then rebooted and installed new drivers. Afterwards i am in a reboot loop.

Using :
Xp 64bit
Nforce 4 board
amd 3800 x2 clocked at 2.5ghz

I did not find any difference in performance from 8.11 to 8.12
FO3 runs about the same (which was always pretty good.

Safe to say... NO CHANGE.

Still, the new drivers (as well as the old ones) run perfectly fine on my PC. No errors, bsod, lock-ups, or anything of the sort.

My installation process:
1.) Run the 8.11 setup
2.) Choose "Uninstall"
3.) Reboot into safemode
4.) Run DriverSweeper (guru3d.com), Choosing ONLY "ATi Display Driver"
5.) Reboot
6.) Install 8.12
7.) Choose Custom install to make sure the new avivio is installed
8.) Final Reboot

Q6600 @ 3.6GHz (9x 400)
4GB Ram (2x 2gb 1066MHz)
ATi HD4870 512MB
ASUS P5Q mobo
Vista 64bit Ultimate

Need some help. Does anyone else play Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3? With catalyst 8.10 it plays fine, no issues. With 8.11 and 8.12, it turns into a slide show once I get into the mission.

8.12 fixes my shadow problems with WoW (can max it out now without blinking weird). So I would rather not have to go back to 8.10

Installed these and am not seeing any major performance gains. They did install without issue, but I did recently reformat.
 
Good 8.12 performance review below. With these drivers the 4870 is back on top, and the 4870x2 seems to stretch it's lead considerably over the GTX280 in games like COD5 and Far Cry 2. The 4870x2 performance is equivalent to GTX280 SLi in some cases. There are a couple of games where the 4870x2 doesn't scale though, like need for speed and dead space. But I think it's safe to say that the 4870 1GB out performs the GTX260 and the 4870x2 now blows away the GTX280 in newer games due to the 8.12 drivers.

vista x32 here, new drivers installed without any problems. noticing better framerate across the board.

simply uninstalled, removed ATI folder, restarted, installed 8.12.
 
Installing 8.12 gave my entire desktop/monitor a violet/pink tint. Uninstalling the driver turns the colors back to normal but this is pissing me off. It's painful to look at the screen and type this. Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: fixed my own problem...Avivo color in ATi CCC ... moving the slider on "hue" either one left or one right turned my monitor back to normal...monitor turns pink with "extended display identification data" enabled.

Are you using the HDMI adaptor? I had this problem with my HD3870 and my HDTV before, it turns out te be a conflict with the audio through HDMI, if I disable the audio through HDMI output, the screen will work normally.
 
Sorry if this has already been asking, but do the 8.12 drivers finally include support for the HD 3850 AGP??

I use the HDMI adapter on the 4870x2 and enable the sound when I want to use my monitor speakers.
Haven't had that issue, perhaps a compatibility issue with your monitor?

Also, is there a way to enable both your monitor speakers using the sound pass through HDMI, and then enabling the regular speakers as well. Vista won't let me use both basically.

I am having the same issue, the fix in the link seems to be for Vista 64bit and a dual card set up though.

I uninstalled all the ATI software and deleted the driver folder. Then installed the latest drivers in safe mode, rebooted in safe mode, used Windows Update to get the basic ATI adpatar driver, and rebooted in normal mode. Seems to be working fine now.
 
No problems here. I just installed over the 8.11 drivers. Everything works as it should.
I don't notice the micro-stutter in FC2 any longer. (Yes! ;) )

I hate ATI drivers. Everytime they release a new driver I cringe because I know I have to jump through loops just to get them involved. For some reason my computer will BSOD when I boot into windows with any VGA drivers. I think I finally figured out what works though.

Uninstall All ATI Drivers/Components
Boot into safe mode
Start the new driver installer
Cancel installation after it extracts the drivers to C:\ATI
Open control panel
Manually update VGA driver via hardware monitor
Manually direct windows to look for drivers in C:\ATI where the drivers were extracted
Reboot into windows
Start new ATI driver installer and install everything so I can get CCC

I have no idea how/why that works for me but it does. It took me awhile to figure this out by trying every possible combination of ways doing it. Before I would either BSOD when booting up with no VGA drivers or BSOD when booting up with updated drivers installed by the ATI installer. Also when I boot up into safe mode and install the drivers all the way through with the ATI installer, I get some sort of "no compatible hardware detected" error...that's why I have to manually tell windows to install the drivers from where they were extracted to.

This is my rant and I guess it could be informational/helpful. BUT FUCKKKK!!!!

Atleast Fallout 3 FPS is consistant all the way through now right? Yeah...if I didn't beat that game 5 days after it came out....pshhhh.
 
never had a problem installing drivers be it nvidia or ati. ATi is so incredibly easy. Download new driver, run the ati uninstall utility, reboot, install new driver, reboot, game. no problems at all.

I literally cringe too when I try to install ati drivers because I know most of the time it ends up in safe mode with me running system restore. Single card users should not be getting any problems as far as I can tell. Crossfire users on the other hand are getting assraped by ati. I love the performance of these cards and hate to get rid of them but man I can't take any more of this bsod crap on driver install/uninstall and being stuck on certain revisions that don't have the problem. 8.12 is a MAJOR performance release and it is a must install for me. If it fails then these cards are gone and I'm back to team green, of which I am under no illusions that they don't have their problems as well...

Did you try doing the disable Ati external event utility method???

I was getting BSOD ever since Cat 8.11's and so I just stuck with 8.10's. I used the method posted above and it works perfect!

I get the crossfireX logo in the top right of the screen (if I want it) and my Far Cry 2 performance (benchmark at least) has gone up 33%
 
I am trying tonight or tomorrow. I will report back. My plan is to:

1. disable crossfire
2. stop event service
3. upgrade 8.10 in place to 8.12
4. put event service to disable before i reboot if possible and if not then boot in safe mode and do it before rebooting into windows the first time after driver install.

I do not believe in uninstalling old drivers first. Ati upgrades should work fine without having to go through that driver sweeper/uninstall rigamarole. This of course is all dependent on whether or not I bsod during driver install which is what usually happens. Forget about the bsod at login, I never make it past the install most of the time. About 3 seconds after the screen flashes for the first time during driver install is where it bsods for the past 2 driver revisions other than 8.10 which works perfectly. I might try to remove a card and upgrade drivers and then install 2nd card and enable crossfire but honestly that is such a huge PITA with my case and i shouldnt have to do that. Madness.
 
I don't have problems with the drivers. 8.12 seems very stable. :)

What I do:
Uninstall drivers
restart
install standard VGA drivers manually through device manager(sometimes drivers are installed upon reboot making it difficult to install new). Doesn't matter if they are installed properly or not.
reboot
THEN I install the new drivers.

No issues and I've saved a lot of time, given i don't have issues with this method.
 
Installing over a previous driver set should work fine. That's what you're supposed to do, actually. I never bother uninstalling before loading up the news ones. The only case in which you may have to do this is if your previously installed drivers were a beta set.
 
I've been really happy with all drivers since 8.10 which fixed a specific issue in FSX. Perforamce has been smoother as well.
 
Yeah I have had literally zero problems with my 4870 with any of the driver releases actually. It amazes me how many issues people seem to be having. Since I switched over to an Intel chipset I have literally had no weird issues or problems with my PC. Not 1 single thing. Completely stable in every way.
 
As for the modded bios, they wont work if you increase the vcore above stock. Go back and make sure none of the vcores are pushed past the stock maximum. Past 8.6 I had to lower mine and consequently lost 25mhz :(

Took me weeks to figure the issue out. Somone finally told me in a thread, now im passing that on to spare some others the pain lol.
 
you could also try installing from the command line. That's what we had to do with one of my friends.

8.11 was the worst driver installation experience that i've ever had. 8.12, though, was just one click, reboot x 3 and it worked. Although the AVIVO encoder is nowhere to be found (no, it's not present in basic view), 8.12 was silky smooth installation. Oh, and yeah i have 4850 CF in vista 64
 
I'd say about 1 out of 4 times I have an issue when installing new ATI drivers.

The issue is usually after installing the new drivers and rebooting I get a message from the ATI CCC that no ATI compatible hardware was found. Then I have to uninstall and reinstall again.

And my uninstall and reinstall process for ATI has become super anal.
I'll uninstall.
Reboot to Safe mode.
Run Driver Sweeper twice.
Run Driver Cleaner twice (for every ATI item).
Reboot normally.
Check the display adapters in Device Manager and make sure it says "VGA adapter".
And sometimes it still says ATI, then I'll have to uninstall that and select delete existing drivers.
Then reboot again.
Then double check the Device Manager.
Then install the ATI drivers.

This problem came up again for me when I removed the 8.12 beta drivers and installed the 8.12 official drivers.

Now that I think about it, this 1 out of 4 times I have a problem is probably when I'm switching from a beta driver to an official driver.
 
Alright, after all of these issues I have had with my two $150 4850's, I just bought a new BFG GTX260maxcore, and will be selling off the old CFx setup.
I enjoyed the performance, but at the end of teh day, it was just too much hassle.
 
Still no issues here with Vista 64 at least. Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2, etc. all run really well. Very impressed with the performance of 8.12 drivers. Never had reliability issues that people here have had with ati drivers, but perhaps I just have a stable OC. Also running my 4870x2 at 800mhz GPUs / 2000mhz mem. just fine :eek: I'm on water though so I wouldn't try that on air.

First install of 8.12 ended with bsod during driver portion of install just like with 8.11. Safe mode/system restore and I am back to 8.10. I stopped the evnt service first, disabled crossfire, put factory clock settings back and installed newest directx and then rebooted. When it came back up I ran the 8.12 install and the bsod was right at the point where the driver installs and the screen flashes where the rez goes to 640x480 then the bsod 2 seconds after. I am going to remove one card tomorrow and then try the upgrade and see if that works. I also have a matrox triplehead hanging off the 2nd port acting as my 2nd 'monitor' so I am going to remove that as well and try the update with just a single monitor attached. If these steps fail then its green team time in the form of a newly price lowered gtx280 and hello craigslist to sell these 2 pains in my rear.
 
I ended up doing the disable the ATI event thing, and that did the ticket for me. 8.9 worked on my system, but 8.11 and 8.12 would cause the system to restart on boot until I did this trick. Nice going ATI. pfft, glad to see your software is still crap.
 
I love the way people blame ATI and Nvidia. The drivers work right on most machines, but when it does't work right on yours the driver is crap. Maybe it's computer that's crap?

As I said already It's impossible for the programmers that are writing the drivers to test them on every possible configuration of software and hardware because there are just too many.

Try to see which piece of software or hardware is causing the problem before you go blaming ATI or Nvidia. There are a lot of people on this forum reporting no problems and also reporting increases in performance. So obviously the driver works. So looks like the software isn't crap.
