So a bunch of people, upset about CNN's coverage of China and Tibet, decided to launch an attack on the website, only to call it off at the last minute.

"Our original plan for 19 April has been canceled because too many people are aware of it and the situation is chaotic," wrote a group called "Revenge of the Flame," according to a translation posted on the Dark Visitor Blog.

If they're upset about people criticizing China,they've got a lot more than CNN to worry about.The truth has an annoying habit of coming out,no matter how much they censor it in China.

Unfortunately, preventing about 1.6 billion people from invading Tibet once they realize that the land can easily support more than one child per family is much more difficult than one would expect. Europeans couldn't do it - they managed to genocide near the entire native population of North America (an extreme feat at the time, probably more involved than both world wars) - And even then they didn't have the push of extreme overcrowding.

The only thing holding the people back *IS* the military and tight fisted media. If China had an open media system, Tibet probably would have been colonized or subjugated 100 years ago.

Britian did it to Hong Kong right up until 1997. I've always said that the Chinese should leave however, so that Tibet can be under British rule. And don't think for a second that if China leaves - that someone else won't step in (with either military force, or perhaps another drug war) Tibet being of course pretty much the size of Europe - makes it a prime target for every nation with a zealous leader.

Tibet is a tiny country, but it's packed to the brim with mineral deposits, namely coal, that China can't afford to lose control of.

I still cant get how ppl care so much about protesting the olympics to begin with... We have so many hypocrites and yahoo's in this country that have absolutely no care in the world about things that really matter, but they go whine about china....Just disgusts the ever living hell out of me to know these opportunists are a part of the society i live in... The internet has just brought about the Al Sharptons of the world to unite under some stupid assed banner of rightousness...Here we are.. losing OUR freedoms, and they care about china...

I see all the "Free Tibet" stuff and I wonder what the hell they expect me to do. I wasn't planning on watching the Olympics anyway.

Back in 2002 a large scale DDoS attack crippled nine of the thirteen major internet DNS backbone servers, and the remaining 4 barely withstood the attacks.

These servers probably have exponentially higher traffic than CNN.com could ever imagine.

Albeit, I'm not 100% sure this group could have pulled it off, but it is, however, far from impossible.
 
It seems a little late to complain about Tibet, didn't China invade 50 years ago? In the meantime USA has given China favoured nation status in trade. Where was the outrage then? If you want to protest China, don't buy their consumer goods.
 
The Dalai Llama has visited my university twice, and I, being in a university martial arts club has been recruited on several occasions to act as his holiness's public security detail for necessary community service credits for the university. He's an interesting person to hear speak and some of his ideas are very ideologically liberating.

But make no mistake, he seeks a theocracy in Tibet.. which frightens a logical person like myself.. that while oppressed and meek, the Buddhists are a peaceful people, but I dare anyone to turn a blind eye to the fact that they themselves are responsible for some substantial scale historic "purification" aka "genocides" throughout their years of being the dominant force in Tibet. Monks straying from the robe have been executed depending on their "religious" offenses a lot more frequently before the Dalai Lama's banishment to India... a common historic execution-warranting offense being the breaking of the vow of celibacy, in which both the monk and his partner were executed.

In my experience, the mixing of religion and government is bad in all forms, no matter what they appear to be.

Support the people of Tibet, not their religious leader. Lest we find ourselves in another Afghanistan, providing weapons, money, and training to the next Bin Laden. Dont let the hatred of the Chinese oppressive style blind you to the dangers of the other oppressor, as the hatred of the Soviets blinded us to serious consequences of supporting the muslim religious "jihad".

Hey, im not condoning anything. The British are just as guilty at oppression, they could have worked towards establishing freedom for Hong Kong after 99 years of rule... But they didn't, they handed Hong Kong back to China on a platter.

I mean the US had to fight for its freedom. Canada asked for it. Tibet is asking - but they may have to end up fighting (And they do have a near third world military compared to *any* nation, including some african ones could probably beat them)

Communism, Monarchy, whatever... Tibet is not free, and it will not be free if China leaves either. This is the main point I'm trying to get across.

Would Tibet be happier under a Constitituional Monarchy like the Queen as a subservient colony (now called commonwealth) - maybe. Would they be happier under a despot - like if Germany in WWII actually managed to raze their way through Moscow - maybe. They are all ifs though, and not to many scenarios have Tibet actually becoming an autonomous state for any period of time.
 
Yes, the Dalai Lama himself and the whole organized religion is about as far from a democracy as one can have.

The Dalai Lama himself has views for his eventual return to Tibet - will return to the way it was, He does not want the country to be "free" or "democratic" by any means. Which is definitely scary.

Its almost similar to a monarchy, but with a religious king instead of a bloodline king. Not everyone in Tibet follows the Lamas' as a matter of fact if they were to vote on it, most would probably not be voting for the Lamas' to decide matters of state. It is afterall a near third world economy and definitely third world military, and cracks are beggining to show as Tibetans find out they are living in poverty conditions compared to their India neighbors, nevermind China, Europe or the western world.

The only people that want to "free tibet" are the UK and to a smaller extent the US. That there was a Chinese protest in Paris France for their support of Tibet today shows that not everyone is so one sided on this issue.

The UK can only gain land in Tibet by 'freeing' it afterall...

adding the 'radical fundamental' as a qualifier isn't really what its about.. there are radical fundamentalist sects in every religion being a christian myself ive recently read about a fundamentalist group that was preparing young girls to be paired off with older men for sexual partners (these and other fundamentalists are an embarrasment to my chosen religon).. comparing islam to buddhism is fair as far as i see it. just like all religons the cause much good to the world but can all be used to oppress and terrorise.

I'm just glad I visited Tibet last summer, before all this broke out. There are some truly beautiful areas there. Tibetans are really nice too. A Tibetan family let us spend the night at their house and cooked us dinner and breakfast for a whopping total of around $5 per person.

I still go back to my original statement... F*** tibet.... F*** china.... and especially, F*** every single new age skumbag in this country who has to have a wagon to hop onto to impress someone or feel they are apart of something trying to better somewhere else, when we have enough problems in our own country to make the rest of the world just laugh like hell at us. Now im off to play Call Of Duty 4 to escape the reality that i share this country and its values with some of the dumbest sons a bitches on the face of the planet.
