So? that means less than a typo in the submenu. 246 is just a 245 with a quasi fancier bezel.

yeah, i know, i'm not concerned about it at all. i'm just wondering how many people's service menu says 246WP :D

Just grabbed one of these at FutureShop for $315 CAD on clearance... sales guy threw in the $99 5 year warranty too :)

So far I'm impressed... big improvement over my old Samsung 19". It's a ver. 1.4, I'm not sure if that's good or bad...

My question is, should I keep this, or go for a 2407-HC someone's selling locally for $400? The extra USB ports and Card reader would be useful since I run the monitor from a macbook pro. I also primarily do Graphic design/ Photo editing, so color reproduction is important. Would it be worth it to spring for the Dell?

I got mine back from repairs. They only have refurbished ones wich suck. I sent mine in because of a dead pixel, and I got another one back with a dead pixel stuck right in the middle. I have to send it in again for exchange :(. I hope 3rd monitor is a charm :(.

DHL is picking mine up to go back to LG tomorrow. Like you said, they only have refurbs left in stock since it's discontinued. Since I bought an open box originally, I'm not too concerned that I'm getting a refurb back, I just want one without dead pixels. The one I'm sending back has 3.

now that it's very much night time... backlight seems pretty even ;)
slightly purple-ish hue to the blacks though. for those who are wondering, that's a sony SDM-S74 on the right of all my pics.

camera settings:
2 sec exposure
1/2.8f
ISO400

Yeah mine was open box too, which I dont mind at all if is refurb, but Im annoyed that I got another one with two dead pixels right in the middle. Although the brightness and picture quality on this one is WAY better then the open box I had. Maybe too many people messing with the open box one.

Ok the Luminance setting is in the extended CEA EDID block of the monitor, and the setting to 63 does get "forgotten" every time it gets switched off or changes resolution.

So we now have a monitor that displays a dark blue instead of black because of a wrong internal setting.
The only program that seems to be able to write the CEA extension blocks is the registered Powerstrip. But I don't want to pay €20 to fix my monitor. Hm.

When you say open box, do you mean display model? I got the display model at Circuit City. Fortunately their display models are up high where people can't touch them. So far, I am very happy with this monitor. I was able to tell from the service menu that there's 3,000 hours on the panel. Anyone know what the life cycle of these might be? I'm guessing 30-50,000 hours?

I had these panels for awhile and they are great. Too bad I missed the clearance at Circuit City, I would love to pick up another one. I can't believe somebody is selling this for almost 900 bucks on ebay

Here are a few pics of my monitor, Its getting replaced for another one cause of dead pixels:( but here you go...

Hey, I;ve been thinking about getting this monitor.

List all the pros and cons please.

Also, ho w bad i s the off axis viewing

Where cna I get a good deal on this?

I got copy of a Registered version of Powerstip from my friend, i made some change via sofMCCS,
how could i Update the EDID on l246-wp?

i'v tried to make a change by softMCCS then go to Powerstrip and click Update EDID.
then i got message "YOUR EPROM EDID is write protected or simply the cable is too long!" or something like that!.
Now every time resolution changed or the lcd turned off the setting reset!

Is there a solution to make it work to save the change?

I posted these in my initial thread, but I'll post them here too since this is the official LG L246WP thread. :) Picked this up Friday thanks to Eclipse's suggestion and I <3 it. Click pics for mega size. Got it as an open box special, no dead pixels, no issues at all. Most everything was still sealed in the box? Not sure who returned it, but thanks!

I have a registered version of Powerstrip too. Where do you see Update EDID? I only see that in softMCCS.

From
OPTIONS -> Monitor Informations.
down-left in the window you will see in Options section "Read data from registry"
select the last choice on the list "Update EDID" and click the "calc" icon.

tell me your feedback.

hope some find a way to update it.
cause the setting i made is all what i need to make it good, it's frustrating to reset if i turn the lcd off or run a game!.

Thanks, Majed. I'm at work now but I'll try it when I get home tonight and let you know how it works out.

Hi all.
I bought this monitor and received it as a marvellous Easter Egg just last Friday!

I'm very happy about it. I'm using it with 360@HDMI and PC@VGA and both look excellent. Desktop wise I run the native, amazing 1920x1200 resolution, whilst for games and movies I use the Xbox 360 at a true 1080P@HDMI next-gen glory.
Now I just need to find the proper settings for gaming...
At first I had 75 brightness and 100 contrast, but then I lowered brightness to 50 and it seems a bit better honestly. About the contrast, I don't really know. With 100 contrast the Xbox guide on white background is barely readable, but personally I think that colors are much more vibrant in videogames (not such with movies). What do you think about? What are your settings with 360@HDMI (or even PS3@HDMi) with this monitor?
As for R,G and B I upped them all to 60 (standard was 50), and the colors seem better to me. But maybe there is still room for improvement!

P.S.: I have a L246WH-BN model.

I'm pretty sure the WH model has a TN panel.

Majed, I tried it but it didn't work. When I clicked on Update EDID, it says "A valid EDID was not detected on the select monitor. Do you want to scan the bus for a EDID EEPROM?" So I click on Yes, and it says "A valid EEPROM was not found."

So I don't know what this means at all. Any ideas?

For those attempting to update the EDID, if you have an Nvidia based card, you can override the EDID using the OverrideEdidFlags0 registry key.

that's odd!

for mine "1.44 version" i got a vaild EDID, but no way to update it!, after the click i got message about "Your EEPROM is write protected or simply the cable is too long!"
mine connected via DVI and i have xfx 8800GTS 512 "174.74 driver" with Vista U. x64

can you explain more or tell me where to find the answer ?

forgive me i'm newbe in these things.

EDIT : ohh thanks alot. found it here if this what you were talking about
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1032142165

EDIT 2 : after adding the flag, uninstall, reinstall the driver.

when i click the upate i got not a vaild EEPROM found then after scan i got this message

"An EDID EEPROM has been found at port #1, Do you want to attempt writting to this EEPROM?"

so, ckick YES,

i got this.
"An Error has occurred writting the EDID, The EEPROM may be write-protected or the cable may simply be too long.

any1 ? something wrong i made?

You would actually use OverrideEdidFlags0 instead of updating the EDID EEPROM. Some documentation can be found here.

first of all, thanks.

can i get some declaration.
now in softMCCS i made a change in "Luminance" to a specific value.
how can i do it?
How can i implement this to the driver "nv_disp"?
i made some googling but maybe i don't use the right way to search!.

i got something.
now i can the code which reflect the change i made in the "DDC/CI Communication LOG" part.
is that ok?

What I want to know is if we use the override flag registry value, will the luminance setting in softMCCS stick? I wonder why soft MCCS doesn't save the new luminance setting.

Post the values of the EDID before and after the change. I'll try to help from there.

first, thanks for your help,

here it is:
Ok, for example let me take the Luminance setting ( 64 to 63 ).

Before = 64
04AD48BBAF..... <6E:w> 51 84 03 10 00 40 E8 [P]

After = 63
04AD9DBDB0..... <6E:w> 51 84 03 10 00 3F 97 [P]

plue:
this Red video gain -0x16 value : 100 -> 92.

Before (100)
04AF1E70D4..... <6E:w> 51 84 03 16 00 64 CA [P]

after (92)
04B0FFBAF6..... <6E:w> 51 84 03 16 00 5C F2 [P]

as i can see the last 4 fields has changed which reflect the setting with its value.

Is it possible to export the entire EDID? OverrideEDIDFlags0 works by using an offset value, so I'd need to see the whole thing to know where in the EDID these values are.

i don't know what did you mean by "the whole thing".
but this is the EDID data from the Phoenix

To be honest, I just don't know if/where the luminance value is stored in the EDID. If you can find how to alter the value in Phoenix and post the updated EDID here, I can help you with the Nvidia driver part.

Dude, what the heck are you guys doing with the EDID? What are you updating the EDID to and what does that gain you? So confused.

Dude, what the heck are you guys doing with the EDID? What are you updating the EDID to and what does that gain you? So confused.

case i'm using sRGB mode, there's no way to adjust the colors, only via nvidia panel.
by softMCCS i found the best result for me for the colors from the monitor it self.
the problem is, the new setting will be lost as soon as i turn the monitor off or the resolution changed (playing games for example)!.

so i want a way to store/save/update this setting.

here it is:

.

I am after the same thing. I have this monitor pretty well calibrated color wise but changing the Luminance setting in softMCCS from 64 to 63 makes the black level just about perfect for me. But you're right, everytime you shut off and reboot the computer, the Luminance setting goes back to 64. I have emailed Entech to see if there is some way to permanently make that setting stick without have to play around with the EDID.

I have an LG L245WP with a FX5200 video card and using 169.21 drivers. With VGA cable I can get 1920x1200 but not with DVI/HDMI cable. The graphic card responds as if a TV is connected and shows max.resolution 1920x1080 while the monitor does not recognize that it is connected to a PC.
I tried the solution suggested by bryanb and added OverrideEDIDFlags0 in nv4_disp.inf. I checked that the registry was updated with these values. However, although 1920x1200 is selectable by nvidia control panel, the screen appears truncated at the right part.Moving the mouse to the right, the screen scrolls to reveal the hidden part. When I press OK/AUTO it shows "HDMI 1600x1200/60Hz".

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome, thanks
