24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

@Topic
Got home, turned on the screen, waited for 15min and boom, it's all blurry again. So adjusting the pots didn't do the trick. I'm giving this method another shot, just to be sure.

I've a p260 that does the same thing in reverse, if you turn it on it's so blurry as to be nearly unrecognizable but after ~3-15mins of being on it makes a loud snap and is in focus.

That's exactly what mine does also, except it doesn't snap that loud. Makes a sound like degaussing.

Try leaving it on straight for a couple of days. Somehow that fixed it for me...

Accidentaly left on the heater over night, so room temperature was 21°C when I turned on PC and screen this morning. The screen is on for a bit over two hours now and didn't become all blurry yet.

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods!

Came home, turned on PC and screen, and 2 hours after that still no blurryness. Is it gone? For good? I surely hope so *knock on wood*. Heater was off and room temperature down to 15°C, just about the same as with the other encounters of blurryness.

The postman just rang the bell and brought my DVI-A -> 5BNC Cables. I plugged in the high end one, and from what I'm seeing I don't need to test the other. Colors are displayed more clearly and picture in general is a bit sharper, too. I expected it to not have any effect at all, but the results improve my opinion about high end stuff a bit.

However, the picture could be even better if the graphics card would use a halfway decent digital / analog converter. Almost all of todays 'consumer' graphics cards have rather poor converters, so I'm thinking of buying an external digital / analog converter, that translates DVI-D into DVI-A. Should improve signal quality significantly, I just don't know where to get such a thing. All I could find were DVI-D to D-Sub converters.

My experience is that if you have the blur problem, it does not go away. Heat has nothing to do with it. I live in South FL. The coldest we get here in the winter is about 23 C

if you are in florida why are you using Celsius instead of Fahrenheit?:D

Heh,
There could be a number of reasons.

Maybe I am European?
Maybe I think it sounds cool?
Are you saying most people in FL are too stupid to understand Celsius?

Or, Or, Or, maybe you could look at my post again and see that I was replying to the original poster who was referring to his temperature in Celsius and I was trying to communicate in units he understood!

Hey guys, chime in here:

Which Manufacturing year is best for this model and why?

Thank you.

Oh, and does anyone have a picture of the windas cable? I see ones with USBs on one end, will this work with my FW900?

Since search is disabled, can anyone point me to the good WinDAS threads? Is this the one?

I got a Gateway Vivitron from my roommate and want to know if WinDAS is what I need to calibrate it nicely.

Anyone know the usual time it takes accurateit to ship their monitors out? I paid them over one week ago and they haven't shipped it yet.

all i know is im getting one, grade A+ refurb....... man i cant wait hope its all its hyped up to be???????

I was wondering where you found a grade A+ refurb. The only place I can find refurbs is AccurateIt but they only have a Grade A- for $699.00. I think Unklevito on ebay has some nice FW900's too but he hasn't listed any lately. How important is this whole grading thing anyway, I heard people who got B grades that were flawless other than a few nicks on bezel.

If you're anywhere near Michigan, it might pay to order from the RAD recycling folks on ebay and drive to Detroit area to pick it up. I only paid $200 for mine, after all.

Does anybody here use the 2304x1440 resolution? How does it look for you?
I need a (cheap) graphics card for driving it at this resolution (only 2D). Any suggestions?

That resolution looks good to me. I played through Far Cry at 2304x1440 at 75Hz refresh rate. I couldn't get AA to work together with HDR in that game, so I played it on the highest possible resolution. It worked well.

ya im getting if from him,Unklevito. but for a bin price, 500 not auction so..... pricey but i think it'll be well worth it.

I just got the hp version. It looks pretty nice using the VGA cable that came with it and a VGA to DVI adapter. I have one annoying problem though. It seems there are two very small black horizontal lines. One is about near the middle and the other is around 75% of the way to the top. It can be annoying at times but thankfully you won't usually notice it unless there is a very light background. Has anyone seen this with one of these before and have an idea on how to fix it?

thats normal...it's inherent to the design of trinitron monitors. those two lines are holding the aperture grill up.

dont think a cheap card will do that resolution. my 8800 GTX wont even do that resolution with this monitor

u using vista?

im using xp and can run my monitor at 2304x1440 with my 8800GTX. I was also able to do it with my 7800GTX cards...

just gotta add the custom resolution in the display control panel.

i dont think it can do above 72hz for the refresh rate at that resolution though.

Today is a sad day for me my monitor died I'd been figuring something was up as of late been hearing these pops and cracks when the thing came on and the screen was getting loopy at times. If anyone knows where to a find a used one of these things again let me know.

I can do 2304x1440 at 80hz with my 7900gt. Normally run at 1920x1200 at 96hz.

I just got the monitor that I bought a few weeks ago and it's freakin AWESOME, screen is pretty much perfect along with the case, for $100 I really think I got a deal.

It does have the two horizontal lines which I read here are just part of it being a trinitron, and it does look very washed out, so I guess I'll have to get a cable to use with winDAS but I am still unclear on where to get one, and I'm not an electrician so I need one with little assembly required.

Till then, I figure I'll tweak as much as I can with the built in adjustments, but Nokia Monitor Test doesn't seem to like my 64 bit environments. I suppose I could set up my second computer, but I don't know if it having a different graphics card will make a difference when I switch the monitor back to my primary comp.

Does anyone know of a program comparable to nokia monitor test or if I can run it somehow with xp x64 or Vista 64?

Is there a preferred manufacture period for this monitor... or is it just 'the newer the better'...I thought I read something about it somewhere.

Doesn't really matter, the only difference between the HP and Sony models is the color of the paint.

$150 good deal? ...

My Sony FW900 that I bought from a guy on ebay who claimed it was perfect lied. So after wrestling with the amount he basically refunded me the shipping and I found another monitor (HP this time) for a lot less money.

I have the WinDAS Cable and here is the problem that the monitor arrived with.

1. Convergence is off and can only be calibrated with the cable only to return to bad convergence a week later.

2. Focus is only clear from 60Hz to 75Hz at the max, once you go above 85Hz the picture gets real fuzzy. I am running a nVidia 8800GTS 512MB video card. The two focus pods will not eliminate this, I can focus all I want but once you get above 85Hz it will not clear up.

3. It now makes a loud pop about every 5-10 minutes where the screen goes discolored and it looks like it shuts off for a second and then comes back on.

The good is the color, contrast, brightness, screen, and outer case are all in nice shape.

So I know this problem is out of my league and I want to bring it to a TV repair shop. Does anyone know what is causing my issue so when I talk with the repair guy I can explain what it might be? Also what kind of money do you think it will cost to repair this? I already paid $400 for it after refund, but I am willing to pay some more to get it back in shape since I cannot find any for sale local at a good price and this one has even better color than the HP I bought. By the way I dislike LCD for gaming so it is not an option. Maybe OLED will change my mind.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I just bought one of these and its seriously awesome, perfect condition screen, no damage to the box or to the anti-glare coat and the brightness is fine when the onscreen is set to 30 so a long way from overbright issues.

I do however have one small issue - Down the bottom in the middle to middle right there is a yellowish blotch. Its not bad but it looks like a very faint coffee stain or some such.

From reading around general concensus seems to be a purity adjustment on the magnets on the yoke of the tube. If I sit a small surround sound satellite speaker underneath the front of the screen where the blotch is, it goes away completely - again reinforcing my belief this can be adjusted out with the magnets in the back.

Any opinions? Also where would I take it to have this done or is this something I can do myself (Im a computer tech so not afraid to get my hands dirty...or sparky as the case may be).
