No! Wolfdale delayed too

X38's are perfect for Wolfdale and Yorkfield, P35's are not. FYI

Not true at all. The rumor is that CHEAP (4-layer) P35 motherboards are having trouble only. There is no information about higher-end P35 or X38 having trouble, and even the 4-layer thing is just a rumor at this point. And given that they're supposedly working on the CPU to fix things, it's likely not a chipset problem to begin with, if there really even is a problem.

All I know is the X38's have no issues with the Penryn procs. I have heard numerous times the P35's do (on this board too), but I really don't care 'cause I have an X38 so....
whutevuh.

This will be a good time to kick back and let the early adopters be the canaries down the mine.

I see where Atacom is taking preorders for the Wolfdales and the price they have listed is 215$ for the E8400 and 305$ for the E8500. I would probably go the E8400 route but I could also go the Quad 6600 route at 250$. If buying for the Abit 35Pro should I wait on the E8400?

They give any ETA on ship dates?

god. At this point how long are the wolfdale and yorkfields be around before the nehalem based procs come out?!

tick/tock is starting to look like the tock really DIDNT work out so well. ONE $1500 CPU does not a tock make.

.oO(didn't realize that we where in Q1 2008 now?)

My P5K-E is supposed to be able to support all 45nm processors, with a BIOS update at the most.
and yes its a P35.

Heres on air cooling and 1.58 vcore @4.7Ghz

I agree with those who are saying Intel has no reason to release any new processors. Why would they? It doesn't make smart business sense to release a new product when you're already on top and cannibalize your existing inventory. Wolfdale will be released when it makes smart business sense to do so, now is simply not the time.

Likewise, nVidia will release their next gen GPU when it makes smart business sense to do so. Heck, they just released the two "mid-range" GPU's (8800GT and 8800GTS 512) wich are SIGNIFICANLY less expensive to produce than any G80 based card, perform more or less just as well, and are still spanking ATI's top of the line cards and they can't produce them fast enough.

Amen to that, at this rate I'll be building a $5000 box by the time new stuff comes out. I refuse to buy right now as my current machine works alright and the annual new-product-cycle is starting to look like it might be a year and a half.

Yea, I'm gonna wait until the new Nvidia 9 series cards drop then my plan is to splurge on a Q9450, 4 gigs ram, Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and whatever the top of the line Nvidia card is.

I'm thinking about splurging on a QX9650 and a Striker II Formula followed by three of the newest NVIDIA cards come Febtober or whenever the hell the damn things are supposed to be released.

Nice. That's an impressive overclock especially for air cooling.

Very nice, but the rig you're using now is legit where as mine is getting pretty outdated.

on air....WOW
Its an ES and they do better than Retail in most cases if you not have a golden one and they are not many.
Remember also 1,45V is max recommended on the 45nm so anything more than 1.4-1.435V is not for 24/7 use. Seen QX9650 that has been killed on only low 1.6:ish Vcore by omne of the OC-king out there so the 45nm is more sensetive for voltage than the 65nm:s that can handle 1.6 Vcore 24/7 on air if temps are in order and you have a TR Ultra 120 Extreme or equivalent superhighend coolers.

Not necessarily true. I've seen some ES chips that out right sucked compared to most of the retail chips. Usually I'd say that you are right as the ES chips tend to overclock very well.

Offcourse you are right that is goes both way, but to expect that retail always do better is just to hope to mutch in my opinion.
