8800GT coolers....

I'm pretty sure looking at the scale of it that its for a cpu. I bet they have the wrong images up. Wonder if it would fit anyway?

Before

VF700 on EVGA 8800GT SC

Card on MB

Stock HSF (stock clocks)
Idle: 71C
Load: 95C

VF700 (stock clocks)
Idle: 48C
Load: 67C

Not that great but I had it on hand and it's doing better job then the stock hsf. Might pickup an Accelero S1 if the VF700 can't cope with overclocking.

Been playing Crysis for 3 hours at 713/1728/945 stock volts. 52C load steady.
Accelero S1

You really might want to put some 'sinks on the MOSFETs as they are some of the hottest components on the board... certainly hotter than the RAM chips.

Are there any good aftermarket singleslot solutions out there? They all seem to be dual slot or dual-slot in height. No way a dual-slot solution is fitting in my shuttle.

Check last page for the details.

Test's are 1.35V

Or a fan like Spideroz did.

He's running at 1.4V instead of 1.3V where the overvoltage protection should kick in, so it might of been a heat issue.

Fans going, idle for everyday activites. 29c
Watercooled using mcw50 a rather old block, fan blowing right at the pwm´s.
Biosmodded, 1.1vcore.

But is there good reason to think that's a problem?

I'd like to see someone take measurements of stock cooler with stock speeds to compare.

There are 19 pages to this thread... I read through about 5 of them. What is the group opinion about after market coolers for the 8800gt? I know the HR03GT is probably very good, but I don't like that the heat gets dumped into the case; I want something that'll blow it out the back of the case.

I just increased the speed of the fans to 60% and it has 60 idle and about 75-80 under load. If that's acceptable to you, you should be fine. You can also increase the speed of the fans to 100% but then you'll need earplugs.

I think that if I really need the extra speed (like Crysis), I'll just put it to 100% and use headphones.

Did you just link to a post that was reposted 3 posts above in this thread?

He asked how I know the MOSFETs get so hot. That link is how I know. And I didn't notice it was posted earlier. Kinda makes his question seem strange. Oh well.

I dunno about "group" opinion, but I'm waiting for a cooler made for the GT because that will be the only one that actually covers everything properly on the board without resorting to sticking RAM chip heatsinks on the MOSFETs.

sexy, and probably great if you're watercooling. Not enough finnage for effective air cooling though. Air cooling needs one of two things - direct connection or heatpipe to the main heatsink that cools the GPU, or large thin fins that air can effectively cool.

Er... not too familiar with watercooling, are you?

The custom heatsink you see above is not cooled with water. The guy created a GPU waterblock to cool his GPU, but the heatsink you see above is a plain ol air-cooled heatsink.

All he needs is a PCI slot fan under the card blowing at it and it will keep it very cool. Especially with the GPU being watercooled, keeping a major source of heat buildup at lower temps.

Exactly, besides, the ram doesn't get all that hot, the MOSFETs on the other hand do, but just a little air flow over the sinks is more than enough...........:D

Of course that part isn't cooled with water. It's just my preference is different. Prefer one heatsink that covers everything ala past reference design coolers of dual-slot size. Easier to install. But that does look really nice.

He's also running 1.38V compared to the rest of us running 1.05-1.15V, so his temperatures are obviously going to be MUCH higher.

My bad on leaving the voltage out, but the point is that as long as you have a fan on it temps are all fine.
Whiny people asking for full coverage coolers when a $2 fan will do them fine...

Stock volts are ~1.12V load for reference.

Anyone know if this thing's any good? (for GF 8xxx cards)

I saw it in an add on the main page and it looks pretty. :) Makes me think of the Zalman CPU coolers.

Ah, here's a review:

It seems like it does ok but the fans are a little loud at max speed. I'd love to see how it does against other coolers though on the GT.

EDIT:
Duorb Cooler. 792/2000/2200

@bigd - I wouldn't buy cooler that didn't exhaust the heat OUT of the base. The HR03GT looks killer except all that heat goes into my case. Poor design. To me, the winner is one with heatpipes, high surface area, and a dual-slot exhausted design.

Dude, you see that big blue plastic thing? That's a slot exhaust cooler so it does vent the duo orbs out of the case. Sometimes, the best solution is to vent the heat into your case because you only have the option of a blower or squirrel cage fan if you want slot exhaust built into the card and those are much less effective at overall airflow and much noisier. A quiet 120mm fan at the back of the case can deal with the extra heat froma duoorb or some other conventional design (Aerocool or Thermalright with 90mm fan attached, etc.).

I won't disagree with you... but in my p182 there isn't an exhaust fan near the 16X slot. It's much lower, to make matters worse, the 16X slot is very close to the NB so that extra heat will heat-up my NB as well. I have a x1950 Pro right now (ICEQ) that is a dual slot, exhaust-out-the-back design which kicks ass. Guess I'll have to wait for some vendors to do the same for the 8800GT or just buy a HD3870 which have the desired geometry... NOT at today's prices though!

If you're worried about cooling your Ram and MOSFETs, check out what this guy over at XS made for his 8800GT, they are low profile enough to work with just about any after market cooler, air or other wise.............:D

The guy who makes these heat sinks will make them for you if you want to buy them. They are normally $45 + shipping, but I set up a group buy to get them for $40 shipped. We have enough people, but if someone wants in, PM me like NOW and you can get in.

I'm going to be using mine with an Arctic Cooling S1.

wow, $40 for ramsinkage: law of diminishing returns :) Very beautiful though.

I threw on some leftover ramsinks and an old old old vf700cu on my 8800gt; temps aren't amazing but much better than stock. Earlier today I forgot to plug in the fan; after two auto reboots I figured out I was an idiot and was thankful my card didn't fry!

I saw a post from "yacoub" on ExtremeSystems Forum where you stated you wanted to get in on the group buy. I can't post over there yet (don't know why), so I'm hoping you see this here. If you want to get in on the buy, you can still get in.

Is it still going on? I tried to register at xtremesystems to PM the guy but its going to take a while before everything goes through.

I asked this on SilentPCReview, but nobody seems to have an answer.

How much room exists under the Artic Cooling Accelero S1 for RAM / IC heatsinks?

For example, would the 14mm Swiftech MC14 fit beneath the S1?
