I knew something wasn't right before. Anyway, I still need to do some more testing. As soon as the OS was installed, I installed the 169.04 beta drivers and the demo, set the resolution and settings in-game then ran the benchmark. There's still a whole load of other drivers I need to install, like those for my wireless network adapter.

Because I wasn't connected to the internet when I installed the demo, I couldn't install the update it prompted me to install. Can someone provide a link to this particular update, because I'm interested if it'll improve performance any more? Thank you.

Yep, definitely ran it at 1280x1024. At 1680x1050 I get around 24-26FPS off the top of my head. I really don't know what's wrong with my computer.

are you sure all the settings in the nvidia control panel are at the best perfomance settings?

Yeah. Well, I tried various drivers and I assume each time the settings in the control panel reverted back to default. However, if you look at my post a few posts up you can see I'm now getting around 40FPS.

This thread is saturated with G92 and G80s. This isn't in the nvidia forum, could we get a couple HD2900s in here?

Well, with the same setup as my benchmarking post from earlier, my single 640 does 21min/29ave/37max with "Very High" textures in the "GPU" looping benchmark, and that is with 1280X1024 & 4xAA.

Well, actually, with that run through a few things were at "very high", even with 4xAA. I ran shadows @ Medium, though. I used these settings for the run results I just mentioned, but these are the settings I play at, too:

1280X1024
AA: 4X
Texture Quality: Very High
Objects Quality: Very High
Shadow Quality: Medium
Physics Quality: Very High
Shader Quality: High
Volumetric Effects Quality: Very High
Gave Effects Quality: High
Post Processing Quality: High
Particles Quality: Very High
Water Quality: High
Sound Quality: High

Again, for 21min/29ave/37max. I am happy, the demo is beautiful and fun to (re)play. Can't wait to grab a retail copy. :D

Holy shit! The highest I can get mine up to is 660/1010!

That is the one I got in September, the one I got in March would only do 675/1566/999. I do not know what revision the March one is ATM, but the one you quote there is an A3. Also, that tool is not horribly accurate, as the real numbers are 684/1620/1080. It is real close, though. And that tool does the math on mem bandwidth and fillrate and such.

A little off-topic, but does anyone have any 2GB vs 4GB memory comparisons for the Crysis Demo benchmarks? Also, does anyone have the URL for the update that you're prompted to download and install after just after the demo finishes installing?

What update? I never got that.

My friend has the same PC as me, except he has 4GB of memory compared to my 2GB. We didn't see a difference is Crysis or 3dmark06 for that matter.

Oh right. That's a bit annoying seeing as I just ordered another 2GB. Oh well, it was cheap. Thank you, nevertheless.

Seems GT (GTX) and Quad cores with 2+ GB of RAM are performing nicely. I'm looking to perform a 'complete' overhaul this month and I now know what I need.

Oh right. That's a bit annoying seeing as I just ordered another 2GB. Oh well, it was cheap. Thank you, nevertheless.

Yeah we both ordered our shit at the same time while talking over TeamSpeak. After we get all the stuff ordered, he informs me, "Oh yeah I got 4GB RAM... I am better than you!" After testing, I LOLed a lot considering it made no difference at all in the games we saw.

I was going to buy some more RAM after he told me, but the test results put a halt to that pretty quickly.

Insert the part where I feel really stupid...

I got an average of 46fps and I dont know why mine was so high. Your computer should be faster than mine, since you have a quad core and 4gb of ram, as opposed to my dual core and 2gb of ram.

Maybe its because of the overclock on my 8800gtx. Overclock it a bit and run the test again since this game pushes gpus to the limits, maybe it has huge benefits from a higher clock speed.

That is why, try benching under XP.

I'll take your advise, I'm gonna try OC'ing a lil and see what it gets me. I have to admit, I was really surprised the drivers alone netted me 7-8 FPS. I know there is a bug with the reflections, so I renamed the exe.

Question, what should I try overclocking to?

I came from a ATI 1950PRO and I was using ATI Tray Tool, so I'm not sure how to OC, and test stability. It was nice that Tray Tool had it all built in.

That is why, try benching under XP.

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of XP around right now. I might go swipe it off my father sometime this weekend, and see what it can do for me.

Thanks for the help guys,

Despite your quad core and 4GB of RAM, I think your benchmark results look about right. I mean, the demo barely utilises any more than a single core, and I doubt it's going to be using anywhere near 2GB of RAM, let alone 4GB, so I wouldn't worry.

What I find interesting is the minimum FPS we are getting on the GPU benchmark. It seems to be a lot higher than other peoples who have similar average FPS. At least that's something to be pleased about, huh?

I think you're totally right Tissue.

But I found something really interesting just now, sadly I have to get into my office so I don't have time to post about it. I will however post up from my office, so give me about an hour, and I should be able to shed some light on this.

Nice, I'm eager to hear your findings.

Also, I just realised how similar our rigs are. Similar memory, speakers (I have the Z-5500s, too), graphics card, power supply... So it's no surprise they perform similarly on the benchmark. Although, I'm guessing your rig will really shine in the full game which will probably make use of your quad core and extra memory. I have another 2GB of Ballistix on order (I'm using 64-bit Vista as well!) and I'll be running the benchmarks again if anyone's interested in a 2GB vs. 4GB comparison. Although, it won't be for a few more days because the memory hasn't even arrived yet. I really doubt it'll make much difference in the demo though which is, what, only 1.7GB ish anyway.

Ok, so I've finally got time to sit back and write this all out. Sorry it took so long, I got back to my office, and all hell broke loose on me....

First off, it appears there are many, many variables to consider here when running this bench mark across the various rigs here.

Just a few:

WinXP | Win Vista
32-Bit | 64-Bit
Nvidia Driver Version
Did you rename the .exe and the target in the GPU_Benchmark (To fix Nvidia's Reflection Bug)?

I don't think I'm saying anything new here, most of us know these problems. I'm saying maybe we should start addressing these when we post the benchmark results, which most posts have been doing.

Anyway, on with what I've found....

All of these Bench Results are on my system running Vista Business 64-Bit & Nvidia 169.04 Beta Drivers.

First I wanted to look at the difference between the "buggy/Cheat" versions of the 169.04 driver.

Again nothing new, most of us knew about this...

The Second set of test shows how well my GTX did with a mild OC. I say Mild, because I only took about 5 min to OC. I basically guessed about 12-17MHz above some OC's I saw in peoples sigs here because I am water cooling. I think I still have some head room to go higher, I will try it later tonight when I get home.

In all I'm pretty happy with how my GTX is performing, knowing I still have some headroom to OC, and possibly squeeze out 1-3 more Average FPS. As I said before I totally agree with Tissue, that our numbers are almost identical, therefore I don't feel my GTX is underperforming.

I guess the main thing I'm pointing out, is we should note in our posts if we are running the "bugged" or "Fixed" version of the benches with the 169.04 drivers. Obviously it can make a dramatic impact on the numbers.

Credit goes to Nembot, it was his post that made me try this.

Anyway, I hope sheds a little light on things for some.

Hmmm... Sucks about the XP thing, because I'm definitely on to Vista for good. I'm hooked.

As for the driver thing...

Nvidia seems to have "cheated" when it comes to the water reflections on the new drivers.

The best way to see what I'm talking about is if you look at the water during the bench right when the view starts panning back around to where the first base camp was, (The one with the radar jammer). Look at the mountains reflecting in the water. If you didn't do the fix, they will run VERY choppy as you move.

If you apply the fix, you will notice the opposite, very smooth & clear reflections. Of course this will cost FPS, but we're going for quality, not quantity here right?

Now... How to fix:

I assume you are running Vista-64

1.) Go into your Crysis Dir, forgive me, I install on a different drive path, so I don't have the full default file path.

You eventually want to get to \Crysis SP Demo\Bin64

If you're running 64-Bit go into Bin64

If you're running 32-Bit go into Bin32 <--- I’m not sure if this problem exists in 32-Bit, as I'm not running it... Maybe someone could verify??

2.) Rename your Crysis.exe (I named mine Crysis1)

3.) Right click on Benchmark_GPU and select edit

4.) On the 3rd line from the bottom, (@crysis.exe -DEVMODE +map island +exec benchmark_gpu)

Change crysis.exe to the new name from step 2.

Save and exit.

5.) Run the bench, check it out!

You can always undo the change, just rename back to the originals.

Let me know what you come up with, I'd love to compare results, since we basically have the same system! ;)

They all sold their ati's and bought nvidia's. :)

Sad but true... I'm one of them... this eVGA 8800GT 650 o/c right out of the box is smoking...I cannot wait for my 3rd party cooler to arrive and then I will post my results.
