Interesting Morfix thanks for your reply, anyone else out there care to share their monitor settings, also Morf what resolution are you using?
thanks

So says the guy who has to reply twice to my post.
Prove it. As the saying goes, pictures or it didn't happen.

morf are you doing anything to compensate for the TEENIE WEENIE text at 1920x1200 resolution???
Well I would be getting rid of both to get the 2707. I haven't really made a choice yet. I am starting to like the look of the LG though.
One 24" is enough. I agree, but driving the two displays wouldn't be too taxing. I am going to have two 8x00 cards on my next computer.
Plus I want to be able to use my 360 on one while my comp is up on the other. So I don't have to switch back and forth. I might set it up. I am holding out on opening the other one until I know for sure.
The 2707 is height adjustable for the record though.
I usually up the font size in Firefox (Ctrl - +), but that's about it.
The LG is obviously dressing it's best at native resolution but even with my 20/20 vision I just cannot tolerate text at 1920x1200 resolution.
ANYONE OUT THERE at native making any compensations for the tiny text? I would love to hear from you.....
THanks
You know, you remind me of a story my friend told me once. He decided to do a unofficial psychology experiment. He set up a MP3 player with a 'black box' attached to the top of it with two audio cables coming out of the box. One of the cables looked like your standard black mini-plug cable, but the other one was thicker and shiny and looked like a high-quality cable. On the box was a switch that he could flip to supposedly change from one cable to another, but in actuality the switch wasn't connected to anything, and the standard black cable connected directly (well, through a Y-splitter and coupler) to some headphones that used disposable earplugs. The high-quality cable was there only for show and wasn't hooked up to the MP3 player at all.So go and buy one and see for yourself. Pictures prove nothing. Go and buy a cable, that will prove it for you besides, who are you???

He then set up a table to look like a demo for a made-up company's product, and then invited people to try it out and see which cable had the better sound quality. After listening to a song on 'both' cables, most people would indicate that the high-quality cable provided the better sound. At this point, my friend would open up the black box and reveal to them that it was only a single cable hooked up to the headphones and that the other one was a dummy cable. Most people responded with, first confusion, then embarrassment, and then laughter. However, what really shocked him was that there was a small number of people who refused to believe that they could be wrong, even going as far as saying that he, the person who set it all up, was the one who was wrong! It's like they denied the evidence right in front of their eyes and chose to believe what they perceived as facts over the reality of things.
Going back to you, sure, there might really be a difference from regular cables to high quality cables. However, you started off by telling people to get high-quality cables, and when no less than 3 of us told you that it won't make a difference, you simply said "well I can see a difference, so it must make a difference." Then we offered logical reasoning and explanations as to why there simply cannot be a quality difference, and rather than refute it or even consider it, you just said that we're the ignorant ones and that you, once again, are correct.
I ask the audience, who seems more credible? Someone who bought a high-quality cable and says "I can see a quality difference", or someone who can explain the underlying technology behind a digital signal and can offer an explanation based on proven facts?
And who am I? Just an electrical engineer / computer science major. And as I've said before, if you think you can see a quality difference, good for you. Just don't be an ass and say that we're wrong because you have no idea how a digital signal works.
by the way i have a Q-RAY magic bracelet, a stone that make s CD/DVD sound better (but you can only use it 10 times) some laquer to paint on your chips and some $16000 speaker cables. and a bible
if you like to believe BS go ahead but please do not spread it.
The only person I see complaining in any of these threads is you. You gave what several of us consider to be bad advice, and we pointed that out and explained why. Then, rather than either responding to our explanations, providing your own, or ignoring us, you repeatedly go on to tell us that this isn't the place for our "dissertations" and that "no one cares", that this isn't the "point" of these forums, and that anyone who disagrees with you and actually takes the time to explain why is a know-it-all college engineer with too much time on their hands. It just bugs you to no end that I have experienced a difference in quality with the better after market cable that I purchased doesnt it. TOOO BAD. Why dont you "ask the audience" if they give two hoots in hell about anything that you have posted. This just in........they don't.
I agree with everything you've posted here. Based on the viewing angle alone there's no way this could be mistaken with a TN. I saw the Samsung 24 inch TN model in Best Buy, and there's no comparison -- even slight changes in vertical viewing causes horrendous brightness shifts, whereas on the L246WP I have to be at pretty extreme angles before I notice a difference.I have the L256 (i.e., bought in a brick and mortar store) WPQ model, and it is definitely the MVA panel it's supposed to be, based on viewing angle, perfect gradients (no banding! hooray!), and such. Only one person has hypothesized that there might be a TN panel, and that based on something that's not an indicator of panel types, blurry text. I wonder if they were using the VGA input instead of the HDMI input. If not, maybe it's an operating system setting, or they were running it at non-native resolution. This monitor is as sharp as can be. There's no reason to believe there's a panel lottery. Unless a significant number of people start seeing actual evidence, the idea is just FUD.
I haven't bothered with significant calibration yet, and based on some reference images, the default brightness of about 63 is perfect for seeing both slightly off-whites and very dark greys. There is, as many people have reported, a slight compression of the blacks, but I don't find it severe enough to be objectionable. Otherwise, I have only good things to say about the picture.

I've gone through the calibration in the LG fortemanager software, and I agree that out of the box the monitor is very good. I've lowered the brightness setting a bit to around 55, but otherwise, I've left everything at the default. At some point I'd like to get a colorimeter, but in the meantime the picture looks very good to my eyes, and I don't notice any banding on gradients. I do notice the slight loss of detail in the blacks, but it's very subtle and doesn't bother me -- it's much better than that on the Gateway I've seen.
All in all I'm quite happy. My only regret is that Best Buy knocked another $20 off the price and was giving away a $50 gift card with purchase three weeks after I bought it (damn!), but otherwise, I'm very pleased.
I bought mine locally at a Best Buy at the end of May. The fortemanager software is available on LG's website, it didn't come with the monitor. They don't actually advertise that it works with this monitor, but I heard others talk about it and thought I'd try, and it seems to work fine. You can edit some (not all) of the monitor controls from directly within fortemanager instead of using the OSD controls on the monitor, which I find to be a little more convenient (I still dislike having the buttons where I can't see them, but this is a minor inconvenience). I never installed the pivoting software either, if I need to pivot I'll just the nvidia drivers, but like you this is a feature that I will use rarely if ever.Boot did you order your panel online? I bought mine in the best buy store and got the LG246WPBN, I also got a price match when the price went down a few days later. Apparently I did not receive the LG fortemanager software, only drivers and a manual of sorts on a disk plus some after market software to use. I am unable to use the EZ VIDEO from the monitors menu selections, however, using the SRGB setting with a brightness of 30 has worked quite nicely for me. The only software I got was some after market stuff called "PIVOT PRO" for use when pivoting the monitor from vertical to horizontal, something I wont be doing anyhow. No banding or gradients here either. Blacks are the best I've seen so far on any lcd monitor. I found that on brightness levels of 55 or higher the montior was running quite warm though I am sure this is to be expected since 24 inch lcd's have higher wattage than smaller panels. With my brightness at 30 and the SRGB setting selected my monitor runs substantially cooler than it did at other settings.
Are you using native resolution and any text adjustments??
i do not use clear text cause it sucks and makes text blurry by making it bold like.
As opposed to an abnormal monitor? What exactly do you mean here?Under no circumstances does cleartype make text look worse and less readable on a NORMAL monitor. If you think it looks worse with cleartype it's because the monitor wasn't having good text to begin with.
I just dont get it, i have the same monitor and it is by far the sharpest text at least over the dell and gateway 24's i had...i do not use clear text cause it sucks and makes text blurry by making it bold like.
Text just cannot get clearer and i have 20/10 vision. unless i got an oddball superior monitor but i have seen several in different stores and everyone is monitor perfection and the reason i bought one.

It seems like one of the reasons the text kinda sucks is that this monitor has the gritty anti-glare shit on it but then has a semi gloss layer on top of that. If they used 2 layers of plastic instead of 1 that might explain why it's not as clear. They really need to use either reflective coating or anti-glare coating because going midway really has no benefits except to create a diffuse lighting effect that makes things appear to look like plastic (especially blacks) (no not black people).
Hey another question, I was watching some flicks on the internet and black bars top and bottom of the screen with media player, how do I get rid of them and get a full picture? does not seem to be a way to do this in media player, the flicks were widescreen flicks. Should I have switched it up to native resolution? used the 1:1 setting???
Here you go: link. I wasn't sure which one to use, but I'm pretty sure I tried the newer version (Mar 23) and it seems to be working fine for me.Boot do you have a link to that forte manager software? I have been to the LG site and could not find it.
