Is that the argument?

Statement of fact when I posted it.
Started seeing b450/2600 combos pop up in my area yesterday and today so I grabbed the setup bc it came with a quality psu + ram for $300.
The psu was the tipping point item, those really are pumped up in price right now and a pain to get when it’s convenient.

I wish graduation wasn’t right now, otherwise I’d just hand the kid some $.
Takes a bit of finesse and timing to get a complete build going.
Gaming monitors are a pain to source, luckily I have spares.

Cost isn’t the issue right now, wasted time chasing down items is becoming noticeable.

About to go this route just waiting for that beauty NZXT H1 case and perhaps a mini itx B550 motherboard, my i5 4690K and 1070 is crying when playing COD Warzone.

I guess upgrade cycle for PC parts is at 5 years flat it seems IMHO

1600AF vs 3300X? which one is better?

I don't have much productivity tasks on my PC but mostly just for browsing and gaming.

With B-460 showing up earlier than expected and ASRock BFB going 9th gen, all 3 options (9400F/B365, 10300/B460, and 3300x/B450) look VERY close in value.

All will all run 4.0-4.3 ghz on a $75 motherboard and all will be very close performance wise, application dependent. All have good upgrade options as well.

FYI, AMD recently changed their stance on B-450 supporting Zen 3. I would just suggest getting something with 32 MB rom for best results.

Where did you read that? I want to read it because if it is correct I will be buying a B-450 or X-470 baor5d right now
This kinda reminds of the awesome dual Celery 500 days, getting so much for so little.
Celery 500 hell, I remember the Celeron 300A days on slot A with a BX chipset motherboasrd and off to the races we went.

The latest Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus videos talk about it. It is not guaranteed that EVERY B450 will support it, but if you want to roll the dice, I would lean towards MSI, as they were said to be the board manufacture that pushed hardest for it.

I found stories at Anandtech & The Guru of 3D so rumor confirmed and it is a fact. YEAH! But the same issue arises, there aren't any B-450 or X470 boards either  I may become a proud owner of a Ryzen 3 3300X and not have a motherboard to stick it on.

Oh my God, I have been going to guru3d.com for over a decade and I first just saw it actually says Guru of 3D after you said that!

Mandela Effect I tell ya :p

Slot A was AMD, Slot 1 was Intel. They were actually the exact same slot, but AMD reversed it 180 degrees to prevent nobs from trying to insert Intel CPUs.

Manufacturers abused the hell out of the 440BX chipset, it did things Intel never imagined. I've had a few 440BX motherboards over the years, you could overclock the crap out of them.

I thought 3300x launch was today? Is it actually later? I haven't seen anything....I skimmed this thread so maybe I missed it ?
Edit: D0h. B550 launch was "today" according to the article and 3300x/3100 was back in May? Wonder where they are....

3100 is in stock at amazon, though usually through 3rd parties. 3300x is available...sometimes. Just gotta keep an eye out.

Just checked & seeing $140 for 3100 and $167 for 3600.....lol. I think I'd go for the 3600 at that price.

Yeah, no way I would spend $170 for a 3300x when you can get a 3600 for the same price. At $120 it's a great buy, at $150+, no way.

Intel just released the 10100f, which might mKe them the new budget king.

- Outside rendering, it trades blows with the 3300x and does significantly better than the 3100 in gaming.

- Power consumption is actually close to the Zen 2 parts.

Looks to be a great option for a budget build or those that new a PC now but are planning on getting a 6 or 8 core 11th gen in a few months.

Hopefully a 5000 series cpu is released in this space not too long from now, because the 3300x is basically non-existant (in the US at least). :/

I think it will be a long while before we see 4/8 or 6/6 R3 Zen3 CPUs. Right now you can get a 6/12 R5 Zen2 for around (edit)$200, so they would have to be at least do be down to that price to justify, even for a pure gaming budget build.

The R3 Zen3 would be faster in gaming, but it would have to be one hell of a lopsided system for the R5 Zen2 to bottleneck the system. For just about everything else, the R5 Zen2 would be much better.

The 3300x is supposed to be $120 or thereabout, if you could get it. I want something around that price, with a single ccx, don't care if it's 4, 6, or 8 cores. Right now the only option is the zen+/2 apus, or the slower 3100.

The 3600 is not a bad price, but it's not $120. And the 2600 isn't supported by my mb.

If the 3300X were actually available, I'd consider buying it and using it with the B550/3080 for six months or until the non-X Zen 3s roll out. I just don't see it being a problem at 1440p or with backlog games. Six months from now, Cyberpunk will be patched and cheaper too. But, obviously, 3300X is a ghost.

The 3100 auto overclocks to 4.1Ghz with a better cooler and will do 4.2Ghz pretty easy .. so it ain't as slow like you say it is because 3600 only does 4.2Ghz

not so much clock speed as it is core config/quantity coupled with low cache. But I have no first hand experience.... hell, only a handful of people do.

It's on amazon japan for...~$175 (third party seller). The 3100 has a much more reasonable price ($125), but you could get it in the states for less. They also have the 3500, but at nearly $190 I'd just as soon get a 3600 or better.

And yeah, I could settle for the 3100, but as said, $20 more gives a good bump in perf. This will not be a stop-gap for me, so I'll get either the 3300x, or whatever falls in that price bracket this gen.

They paired the 3100 with a RTX 3080 here .. I am sure it was locked to 3.9Ghz .. so unlocking it does offer up to 200+ Mhz and then the memory speed is what I would look at next and for $104
