Z68 release date: May 11

Any word on pricing for the 1366 chips? I'm hoping those will finally push something down into the 3-400 range, new, but is that completely wishful thinking?

970 will stay where its at, 980x will be discontinued. Intel doesnt keep making chips so they fall in price. They discontinue them. 995X will be 1099, 990X will be 999, and 980 will be no longer made. 970 will prolly stay. I dont see them taking a EE chip below the 1K area. This means they wont put the 980x in the 600 bracket or the 965EE or 975EE in the 300 bracket.

Look at the past on the socket 1366 chips.
300 range i7 - 920->930->950->960
600 range i7 - 940->950->960->970
1000 range i7 - 965EE->975EE->980x->990x->995x

My prediction is that 1366 will stay with what you seen now.
At socket 2011 launch the lineup will be
300 range 960
600 range 970
1000 range 995x

980 will be no longer made. 970 will prolly stay. I dont see them taking a EE chip below the 1K area.
The intel roadmaps i've seen indicate a non-extreme 980 is coming out. Only question is how it will be priced....

The article also seems to imply a non-extreme 980, which will hopefully take the spot the 970 is currently in, and bump the 970 down to be the new $300-ish chip. That should bring used prices down roughly to the level of "reasonable," if we're lucky.

Still follows the no EE under 1K. If a non EE 980 comes out then it will likely take the 970s place as the 970 and 960 have the same clocks

I'm looking at a new 2600 computer build. I was going to wait for this chipset. With the release on May 11th, will motherboards be available around that date?

Is this chipset going to have dual channel or triple channel ram?

if its LGA1155 it will be Dual Channel. Triple Channel will be on LGA2011.

Wikipedia says 2011 will have quad channel memory:
This socket is expected to be released alongside Sandy Bridge-EX in Q4 2011[2], and will support 4 memory channels as well as 32× PCIe 3.0 lanes from the CPU.
Arrrgh, buy now or wait till socket 2011...

If money is not object just wait imagine quad channel with Intel's current memory controller. thats like 50gb/s~+.

OOOO a nice 32nm 6core for around 300ish would be very welcome :)

Of course not sure anything is pushing my 4ghz 920 (d0 core)....

Must resist until 2011 socket

Exactly what he said. Well except mines a 930 but you get the point.

;-)

yeah i got the same 920 with the D0, im not even going to worry about it.
