Im looking for a new set of speakers, currently have a cheap dell set that are 5.1 I am looking at the Logitech z5500 speakers. I can get a discount through work and get them under 200 shipped. Anyone have them? Are they worth the cost? I usually use headphones for games, but do play music out of speakers occasionally too.
-Thanks for the advice

They are Awesome speakers

However unless you LOVE audio you dont need them. From the sounds of it you use headphones most of the time...

If this is not the case and you watch movies, or play music alot via speakers its up to you if you want to get them.

The X-530's have a huge punch for how much they cost

also cheap as heck!

Ive been using those for the past 4+ years now and they have been awesome! Ive even cranked everything up too 100% and they still do not distort.

Either way you go both sets are awesome speakers built with real quality.

As for the z-5500 it has optical inputs so you could hook your tv stuff up to it!

Like i said either way you will get a nice set of speakers

(ive donated the x-530s to my parents for there tv (runs via computer when they want the sound))

Need anymore info drop a line here or via pm

You do have to realize that at one time these were near $400. So for many that will respond the answer is a resounding yes.

For under 200 they are definately worth the price spent. Good bass, decent mids and highs. Better than most any PC speaker setup you can get in that price range.

The Z5500's are great for gaming, and at that price (under $200 shipped) they'd be a pretty good deal, though I'd only spring for them if you actually intend to game with them (or watch movies)...

If you're gonna continue to game w/your headphones for the most part, for whatever reason, and just use your speakers to listen to music I'd get something else entirely instead (regardless of budget). There's better options for music listening at any type of price-point imo (from $80 to $350).

I use my headphones for gaming usually, either because I have a roommates or simply because I'm gaming at odd hours and I don't wanna disturb neighbors... I had a 5.1 Cambridge Soundworks set for the longest time that died (the receiver did) and I'm just getting a simple set of 2.0 Audioengine A2's next, for music listening while I work/surf.

I never really watch movies in the same room though (5.1 setup in the living room), and like I said, I game w/a headset mostly. I considered the A5s but the A2's are moderately portable and I'm sure I'll think of a few other uses for 'em. :D My bedroom isn't very large anyway.

By far the best PC speakers. Love them. Absolutely amazing with my Barracuda AC-1 via optical with Dolby Live :-D

Absolutely. My sister has these and I'm in the process of trying to get them from her lol. :D

Hrmm, well they seem nice, the only reason i prefer headphones is because they are high quality, the mic, and the fact that ive gotten used to them lol. Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate it

Mind sharing with the rest of us where you got that awesome deal? I'm looking at buying a set of these, and the best price I see is about $216 on Amazon, plus shipping.

Yeah, no kidding thats a pretty damn good deal, better than the Logitech affiliate program I was planning on buying through. Please share!

The Z-5500s are amazing. Get them for that price for sure. I got mine from Dell for $180 shipped free a few months ago.

I love them. They are especially great if you love bass like me. These things have HUGE power that will shake your entire house. I knocked my sister's book shelf off her wall with them, heh. The volume dial will just sit there begging you to give it a boost.

Get em for sure. :D

The nice thing about these speakers is the hook-ups.

My son has a computer and XBox 360.

I can plug his sound card into the mini-plugs and the XBox into the optical Toslink.
So he has 5.1 with both systems and doesnt have to do a thing.
Beautiful system and the price is excellent.

you cant go wrong with the Z-5500's only problem is they are LOUD! i can turn the sound up on them an shake my house.

i went from the X540s to the Z5500s and the difference in sound quality was quite noticeable, though that may be b/c the X540s only had analog connections vs. the digital optical on the Z5500s. for $200, that is definitely a great deal. but then again, i would only suggest you get them if you plan on using the fibre optic connection.

You are all making me wish I really had them right now haha. Anyone wanna let me "borrow theirs" at least for a few months? lol

Logitech's street price (online) has always been roughly half of msrp, the retail price is $400, yes, but at no point was the street price that high. The first week the Z-5500s came out you could get them $230 shipped from Dell.

I own a set of Z5500 speakers. I primarily use headphones when I'm at my PC, but the Z5500's are still worth it.
I rarely get the chance to crank them, but a decent audio card combined with some lossless audio pumped through these speakers still makes me smile after 2 years.:D
