Your GPU progression?

But different strokes for different folks, I'm not dissing on his hardware purchase, just questioning his desire to rub it in, which made me ask the question why your upset with my post. No projection here my man.

You are projecting. All he did was post pictures with no words and you claim he has a desire to 'rub it in'? He hasn't even posted back in this thread since those pics and yet that one wordless post is still getting to you.

Geez guy, let a dude be happy about what he spent his own money on. We'd all post pictures like that if we could. Hell, I know I would. It's no different than putting PC specs in a signature.

The damage is done though. We already saw/know your insecurity.

It's not a question of "can't" have, It's more like "won't" since I just dumped $6k into solar panels and another $4k on dual-paned windows for my house which will save me money in the long run, and not something that will be obsolete in 2yrs or less.

But different strokes for different folks, I'm not dissing on his hardware purchase, just questioning his desire to rub it in, which made me ask the question why your upset with my post. No projection here my man.

Perhaps you forgot this is a hardware enthusiast forum?

HP PC w/ Matrox Millenium 2 MB <---- 97. AoE, C&C, nocash GBA emulator, haha. Good times.

HP PC w/ GeForce 2 MX 32 MB <---- 01. Being able to play games like Empire Earth was so amazing, haha. Probably the largest leap in performance I ever had. Really liked HP back in those days.

Dell PC w/ GeForce 7300 LE <---- 06. Hated this PC. Pops got it for the family around the same time that CoH was released, and Vista was on the horizon.

PNY 8800GT <---- 08. Loved this card to death. Got a job to get it, and threw it into the Dell. Being able to play CoH was mind blowing.

ASUS HD 5970 <---- 10. First build. Powerful card, but artifacts galore, very noisy and hot also. Put me off dual gpu cards completely.

EVGA GTX 680 <---- 12. Second build. Good card, but this is when nVidia started to pass off their mid-range dies with high-end prices. The one I had was a horrible overclocker, too.

EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC+ <---- 14. Upgrade for my second build. Still using this rig. Use it because I mostly game on 1080p. I tried 1440p, but 3GB is simply not enough after a certain point.

Bought a 1070 a few weeks ago, but ended up returning it. Think I'll make a new build for Volta. Really wish AMD was competitive again.

I'm missing a couple I think, I swear I had another one or two Radeons in there. I remember the first one as it came with HL2 (who would think then we would celebrate steam now) but there was one that I seem to remember ATI absolutely raping NVidia, like blew them away, I had one of those.

Doesn't help all the names are so samey, I could probably go back through my post history and work it out i've been on here so long.

Ok, tried to get these all right, but I had to go back and check dates on some;

'99 - Riva TNT2
'00 - Abit Siluro MX200
'02 - EVGA TI4400 - First card I pulled off the heatsink and did custom cooling on. Was an epic overclocker
'05 - ATI X800XT AIW - my last AGP card, was an awful overclocker though
'07 - EVGA 7900GTO - Was an epic overclocker and unfortunately the only card I ever had that went up in actual smoke, evga replaced it for free and did shipping both ways
'08 - Sapphire HD2900xt - was actually a Secret Santa gift from Kyle, could never get the damn thing to stay cool though
'08 - Sapphire HD4850 - Ended up mining with it mostly, was a good card, but ran warm
'13 - Crossfire Sapphire R9 280x's - Was a great gaming setup for games that worked in crossfire (also at its peak had about 14 R9 270/270x's mining). Both cards eventually failed, one about 1 year in and the other just a few weeks ago. First one Sapphire replaced without much fuss, but the other was a month out of warranty and Sapphire said FU.
'17 - Power Color RX480 Red Devil - Failed after 35 days, been going back and forth with PowerColor to get the damn thing replaced. Bought it just to hold me over until Vega info is really released

Let me see if I can remember them all...

Rendition v1000
Riva128
Voodoo 2 12meg
Tnt2 32 meg
Voodoo 5 5500
GeForce 2 gts
GeForce 3 ti500
Radeon 8500
GeForce 4 ti4600
Radeon 9700 pro
GeForce 7800gt
GeForce 8800 gts 512
GeForce 9800gtx
Radeon 4850
Radeon 6950
GeForce 1060 6GB

I might be leaving something out, but to the best of my memory that's most of it. Obviously over the last few years I dramatically decreased my upgrade rate, mostly because I have so little time to game anymore.

In my main rigs:

Cirrus Logic CL-GD5xxx something or another, ISA Windows 3.1 accelerator
S3 Virge
Voodoo 2
Trident Blade 3D maybe?>
ATI Rage something or another with a TV tuner
Think I had a Matrox in there somewhere, the order up until this point is pretty fuzzy
ATI X1800
GeForce 8800 GT
Geforce GTX 260 (eventually SLI)
Radeon 6970 (this card probably lasted the longest, about 5 years)
GeForce GTX 980 (what I'm running currently)

I can remember the cards that I've used in my systems, but I can't remember my family's birthdays

Nvidia 6600LE
Nvidia 7800 GTX
Nvidia 8800 GTX
ATI 4870
ATI 5870
ATI 7770
ATI 5550
ATI 5450
Nvidia 970 GTX (current)

Tnt2
ATI 9700(non-Pro) then flashed bios to Pro
Nvidia 7800GTX
Nvidia 9800 GT
Nvidia 670 (Sli) - This is still running in my PC in MD
Nvidia 970 (SLi) - Current PC in AK

Geforce DDR
Geforce 4 Ti 4400
Radeon 9800 Pro
Geforce 8800 GT
Geforce GTX 285
AMD 5870
Geforce GTX 780
Geforce GTX 970
Geforce GTX 980 Ti
Geforce GTX 950 (sold 980 Ti, gamed on console for a while)
Geforce GTX 1080 Ti

Now let's see if I can remember even half of this list...
- Commodore C64 :p
- Amiga 500
- Amiga 1200
- Matrox Mystique + Elsa Voodoo 6MB (I seem to remember starting with a different Matrox card then upgrading but meh)
- Matrox G100 + Voodoo 2 12MB, added another V2 for SLi later on.
- TNT 2 of some sort
- Geforce 256 SDR
- Geforce 256 DDR
- Geforce 2 GTS
- Geforce 4 Ti 4600
- Radeon 9600 XT
- Radeon 9800 Pro
- Geforce 6600 GT SLi
- Geforce 7950 GX2
- Geforce 8800 GTX, added another for SLi later.
- Geforce GTX 285
- Geforce GTX 560Ti
- Geforce GTX 670
- Radeon R9 295X2 (DOA, and then the GTX 980 was released)
- Geforce GTX 980

I can't guarantee I got the order of the Geforce vs Radeon parts 100% correct. But I think this is how it went.

C64, sold in 1988.
Atari ST1040, sold in 1990.
3dfx Voodoo1, gave system sister.
TNT2, gave system away to sister.
ATI Radeon 9800 pro, boxed in a closet. First and last gpu I modified, with an arctic cooler.
EVGA 8800GTX SLI, boxed in a closet.
EVGA GTX570, boxed in a closet.
EVGA GTX680 SLI, still in use.
EVGA GTX970 tri SLI, still in use.
MSI GTX980ti Gaming tri SLI, did not fit comfortable in case, sandwiched card ran too hot, sold.
EVGA GTX980ti tri SLI, sold two and one still in a system I use.
MSI GTX1080ti Gaming, bought two but send one back. Overkill for my use.

All these cards were put in systems specifically built or bought for Flight Simulators. Over
the years it's gotten an expensive hobby. Nice to see that single gpu's can finally run my setup.
Now I only have to spend one weeks salary everytime I upgrade instead of almost a months worth.
Instead of keeping older cards I know sell them the moment I don't use them anymore.

Geforce 6600
ATI X700
Geforce 8600GTS
Geforce 8800GT
Geforce GTX 280
Geforce GTX 460
Geforce GTX 680
Geforce GTX 970
Geforce GTX Titan X Maxwell SLI
Geforce GTX 1080 SLI
Geforce Titan X (Pascal)

The ATI card was on lone from a friend for about 6 months while I waited to get funds for the 8600GTS after my 6600 died because I played way to much COD 1 as a kid.

Pure curiousity, why the jump from an 8800GTS to an 8800GT? I know oddly the naming seemed backwards where you'd think the GTS was faster, but it wasn't. Was it that much slower than the GT?

I had the impression that if you have to spend a fortune if want 60fps on high details. Then I played games on my friends PC with a 1060 and my mind was blown that you can spend as little as 260$ for that performance.

Then I plan to buy a 1070 for some future-proofing but then 1080ti came out at the price of a 1080 in my country.
My mind blacked out and now I have a PC with 1080ti which I play on 1080p... (no $$ left for a new monitor)

Though it did feel great with that jump. More than 70 times more computing performance.
