Your CPU progression

This thread is interesting, it's interesting to see how people switch AMD/Intel or remain "true" to the brand. Personally I've always gone best price/performance.

Pentium 150
Pentium II 233 (OC'd to 300)
Celeron 300A (OC'd to 450)
Pentium III 600 (OC'd to 900)
Athlon T-Bird 1 GHz (OC'd to 1.14 - lame chip)
Athlon XP 1800+ (OC'd to 2 GHz0
Pentium 4 2.4 (OC'd to 3 GHz)
Athlon64 3200+ (OC'd to 2.8 GHz)
Athlon64 X2 5200+ (OC'd to 3 GHz)
Core 2 Quad Q6600 (OC'd to 2.8 GHz)
Core i7 975XE

Looking back, that's as best as I can remember it for my home system. Everything after the Athlon64 3200+ has been stuff I've been able to scratch together from work, so I didn't buy that 975XE - just use it at home in a test setup.

Intel 486
AMD K5 (aka the "Pentium Killah" lol.. 100mhz? socket 7)
Intel Celeron 300A (first OC build, forgot to what speed, maybe 400mhz)
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
AMD Opteron 165 (OC'd to 2.7ghz)
AMD Sempron 140 (HTPC build in progress)

Desktop progression

Pentium 4 2.8ghz (2003-2010)
Athlon 2x4 620 2.6ghz(2010)
1090T @3.8ghz(2010-present)

Laptop Progression

Intel Centrino 1.3ghz
Intel T4400 @ 2.16ghz
Intel Atom N270@ 1.6ghz

This question gets asked every couple of months. Its always a good memory excercise for me.

Here it goes. The complete list of CPUs I own or have owned but not necessarily in order and not all of which have been in my main gaming rig.

Intel 8088 4MHzIntel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 (3.2GHz) (x2) -(Still have both of these)
Intel Core i7 920 (C0/C1 stepping) (2.66GHz) -(Still have)
Intel Core i7 920 (D0 stepping) (2.66GHz) -(Still have)

I know, I have a problem. (I'm almost as bad when it comes to video cards.) I may also have forgotten some. If I did I'll add them later if I can remember them.

w.o.w. HAHA. amazing.

Intel Pentium 2.4ghz
AMD Athalon 4000+
Intel Core i7 930

Most duplicates were omitted. I have missed a few I know but I bought them for multiple computers in my home.

These are the CPU's I've had in my main rig at one time or another. There have been many other CPU's in my secondary machines but I think this list is enough to show myself that I need to stop upgrading every time Intel or AMD launches something shiny and new.

PIII 450
Athlon Thunderbird 1333
Athlon XP 2100+
Mobile Athlon XP 2200+
Athlon 64 3000+ (754)

i5 750 (still have)
i7 860

2- x5650 (still have)
2- x5670 (just purchased)

The 5670's are going into an SR-2 due to arrive any day now. My favorite upgrade was to the E6600, such a huge leap in performance!

Edit: As bad as my CPU habit has been, my video card addiction was far worse. From the 6800GT I picked up in April 04, up until the GTX/5800 line I had the 2 highest SKU's of each generation from both ATI and NVIDIA.

I maintain a 5-year upgrade path. My next will be a ivy bridge derivate.

This is what I remember, I'm sure there are CPus I left out:

Pentium 120
Pentium2 400-- oced to 448mhz and failed, wtf!?
Pentium2 333-- oced to 500mhz for years on end, wtf?! -- Celery333? laf.
Athlon something, some slotA CPU I got to 1ghz, I forget name
Athlon XP-M-- I remember this thing oced like crazy, 2.6ghz or something, maybe more?
Opteron 170-- dualcore goodness, and oced decently
c2duo extreme 2.93ghz-- sample from intel that was horrible at oc but stable stock, had lots of cache
2x Xeon E5410 CPUs-- 2.33ghz quadcore, no ocing :(
i7 920 @ 3.3ghz

Brother word processor
Pentium Pro 100mhz

There has never been a production Pentium Pro sold which ran at that frequency. There were some 133MHz samples but the lowest clocked production Pentium Pro's ran at 150MHz. To my knowledge no Pentium Pro that ever ran at 100MHz had ever been shown to the public in any venue or form.

Missing a couple that I can't remember...

Q9300
E7200
AMD 4800+ X2
Celeron 430
Pentium D something
Pentium 4 (Northwood)
Some AMD Duron...

This is of course referring to my "main" rig. I've probably picked up over a dozen additional computers over the years, often free, but I didn't include them because I don't remember them all.

I skipped a fair few generations. My main rig was never a Pentium 2 or Pentium 3. Never a 32-bit AMD processor. Never a LGA socket, only PGA. Never had desktop DDR2 in my main rig.

Started with a

PIII from Dell
P4 2.4 Prescott (still have it)
AMD X2 3800 (Still use it)
i5 750 (current)

Need to add 980X to my list. Successful OC to 4.2GHz (200x21)

Best processor I have ever owned. But then again, I said that about my Conroe 2.4GHz when it came out too :D
