According to a new study, young people aren’t really into Twitter all that much. It seems most young people using Twitter are just there following their friends.

But of those young people using Twitter, the survey found that 85 percent of them follow friends, 54 percent follow celebrities, 29 percent follow family members, and 29 percent follow companies--not stellar news for the brands and marketers that have flocked to Twitter as the latest "conversational" destination.

Really, whose got time for all of these social sites. I need to develop Twittbook as a site that automatically tweets and updates Facebook.

Facebook? OMG It's the bestest thing evar!!!!
Myspace seems to be dying out along them
Twitter just really isn't used... Most folks I know 30-50 is the Twitter crowd it seems.

So I'd agree with it. Twitter is just alot of hype over nothing.

There's already a Twitter app on FB that does that. You might like Friendfeed though. Friendfeed is a site that takes all the feeds from your various socnets and puts it all on one page for you.

Do we really need to let the world know everything we do and think through out the day?

All those nice random statistics and they forgot the most important one.

100% of them are idiots. :D

Thats because its only for narcissistic morons and people with no lives who want to live vicariously though other morons.

Things like twitter give me no hope for the future of the human race.

Its more of a thing for the "I'm so special, everyone should love me!" generation. Honestly I couldn't give two shits about what someone else does all day long and I have no reason to subject anyone else to my life.

OMG PEOPLE WANTING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR FRIENDS WILL BE THE END OF US ALL!
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I don't have a Twitter or a Facebook account, but honestly... why does it bother you so much? I'm sure you also think texting is the devil, right? If you want to communicate with friends that way, do it. If you are stuck in the stone-age and want to face-face... do that. People are ridiculous. I hope demeaning a few million people for talking with friends made you feel better.

Oh wait, let me try it your way: People bitching about people talking to their friends online are no-life morons that want to feel special and ride their high-horse.

Get over yourself kid.

I'm not a big Tweeter fan (don't see the point, its texting <insert number of Twitter users here> with inane details).

That said, I do enjoy and appreciate those building little Arduino devices that will Tweet their toilet flushes, pet activities, etc to show how useless it is.

Useless? Fortunately or unfortunately, I tried making a Twitter account for an organization I'm a part of for PR purposes...and we've got like 200 followers already. Goddammit.

Oh christ, I spelled it 'Tweeter'. Shit, I feel like a old-person now.

What should make you feel old is that you called it Twitter twice after calling it Tweeter.

Communication is great, I text my wife all the time. Its fast and convenient. The gutter level of communication and "dumbing down" of the English language is concerning.

Why does my being bothered bother you so much?

You are correct, people are ridiculous.

Let me tell you a story junior, it involves this pot and a kettle....

...and I wish I was still a kid. Then I could waste my days away doing useless things like twittering. Of course, when I was a kid, we had this place we used to go... it was called "outside". It was great. We surfed out there, rode dirt bikes, fought people, blew things up... all manner of fun and entertaining things. Even squeezed in time to learn at least a little bit of grammar!

Tweet a toot?

In another recent multi-trillion dollar study, it has been shown that teenagers tend to follow along with what other teenagers are doing...

Which is why I wonder why the lemmings games aren't more popular..........

Haha two of these things are not like the others.

Yup, sounds like you did some really, really, important things that were not useless in the least bit.

Do you not know what an opinion is, or do you just chose to ignore everyone else's?

+1 It seems pointless to me.

The point is entertainment and passing time. Video games, twitter, youtube, movies... they're all just means of entertainment. Some people enjoy certain forms of entertainment over the others.

That's actually the worst way to use Twitter if you ask me. It's best viewed as sort of a micro-blogging platform, where you're able to quickly share things of interest. I only follow people who are either real-life friends/acquaintances or actually have interesting things to say.

Of course, there are a ton of people out there treating Twitter like some sort of simplified MySpace thing where it's all about collecting friends (see: Ashton Kutcher) and updating every time you eat a Twinkie. That's inevitable.

Thats because its only for narcissistic morons and people with no lives who want to live vicariously though other morons.
The one thing Twitter's decent for is for self-promotion and independent marketing. If you're running a company with an online presence of some sort, Twitter is a good way for people to follow what you're up to in a somewhat more personal, less formal way than frontpage news feeds or newsletters or whatever. That's not even mentioning the social/communicative aspect Twitter allows for, where your customers/clients can interact with you in a centralized sort of way.

The gutter level of communication and "dumbing down" of the English language is concerning.
Surprisingly, all of the Twitterers I follow use decent grammar and well-formed sentence structure in their tweets. Just because you have only have 140 characters to use doesn't mean you can't be gramattically correct or even verbosely eloquent.

As for the "dumbing down" of the English language, I'm not so certain you're one to talk ;)

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed, eh? Eat some bad tofu or something?

Don't know if you noticed, but this is a public forum, where people go to type their opinions, and read and discuss those of others'.

Well played.

My point was that instead of discussing opinions, you have to turn it into a flame fest where you ignore everyone's opinion and demean everyone else. You said that just because someone uses Twitter they're "narcissistic morons and people with no lives who want to live vicariously though other morons." Please Troll, you are not here to politely discuss opinions.

Again with the pots and kettles and their lacking of hue and brightness.

You're so cool.

I was going to actually comment on Twitter, but having read page 2 of this thread I can only think "Son.. I am disappoint."

Reminds me of Gin Rummy's rant about text-messaging in The Boondocks. Gotta say, this seems like the pinnacle of the oh-so-aptly named group of "technology" he was talking about.

I posted my opinion. I'm sorry if you can't handle it or it bothers you in some way. Am I only allowed to post an opinion as long as it agrees with yours? The thing is, I posted an opinion about the article that was posted. You posted an opinion about me. I am flattered.

You're so cool.

That is not my intent but thank you for your opinion.

twitter is ok for some things, but seems really impractical for most people.

It works, for instance, with the opie and anothony radio show. When they have guests on or do something on air that may be a little more visual, its easy to hop on thier twitter and view pictures/video/links of what they're talking about or show segments.

But as a tool to keep in touch with peers, it doesnt seem like it would do that great of a job
