Yorkfield Delayed!

How is it delayed? Intel only launched the qx9650 so far while the rest were supposed to be available in q1/08, this was stated a long time ago.

Probably delayed till later in the quarter instead of being available earlier in the year maybe?

Thats bad news though, I was looking forward to a January release , ah well, you can plan a pretty picnick but cannot predict the weather.

Hopefully this will correct the Yorkfield/680i incompatibility issue. That would make my year.
 
i thought intel had the ability to fix this type of thing with a microcode update after the fact?

look at the bright side, an extra month to save up and maybe pick up a nicer model than you planned, or scoop up some extra parts. im building a new rig, and whereas early jan. i wouldve had to be a bit uptight about parts, by feb/march i can probably build something pimp for once. maybe pick up a nice case and a new 8800gts rather than an 8800t

iunno...that's how im making myself feel better about this anyway :p
 
they could have released it on schedule and then started fixing the bugs and implement a fix that would take a chunk out of performance......but they aren't...aren't you glad?;)

besides, there's no rush for Intel now that there's nearly no competition anyways, they don't have to rush to trump their own product to stay on top....

hmm.. but they are pretty much the same processor except for the unlocked multiplier right? i hope not, but i would think the qx9650 has the bug too?

The only difference is the unlocked multi's. Do we have any actual confirmation of a release date post january, or is it just somebody being a tard?

yep apparently you are affected by the errata too. Supposedly the bug will push the launch to late feb early march, which is still technically q1 2008 when they said they would launch it. Wolfdale is unaffected and is apparently still on schedule.

Doesn't sound delayed to me.

If I had to stab in the dark, just based on what the marketing department is probably going to say - I'd say its going to be April for a consumer launch.

There is no pressure at all from AMD for the next quarter, so why launch a new product that does not have any competition to "stomp on". Might as well sit back and grow a little inventory.
 
If I were Intel I would do just this and pray to God that AMD can come out with something good. It's a better idea to have some competition than face numerous anti-trust cases and paying out millions of dollars

Wolfdale/Yorkfield has a smaller die size than the conroe/kentsfield. Smaller size = cheaper to produce.

No argument there.

But companies have been known to sit on inventory of new product - to launch a large release if there is no competition. And right now there is no competition.

Intel may very well produce the new chips, but not sell them until they have large inventories of them (they can afford to do this at this point) Letting only a handful out at extreme price points.... Oh wait...

The ball is in AMD's court.

not a lie. The mainstream products are supposed to be delayed not the ee. But yours apparently still has the bug.
 
Well, the XEON Yorkfield counterparts apparantly don't have the bug because all of the major server hardware vendors are shipping them RIGHT NOW. I'm about to place a huge order for 45nm quad core servers in the next week or so.
 
If there is a delay, it's not because of any errata. If the errata was a serious issue, Intel would pull the existing QX9650 stock from the market.

Any delay is the result of competition, or lack thereof. AMD's won't have its "fixed" quad-core parts out until February/March, so there's no rush for Intel to get the new Penryn quads out.

Previously, the Q6600 and other parts were to go EOL on January 20, killing ASPs on that inventory. With a delay, Intel gets to sell those parts at full value for another 6-8 weeks.
 
I think theres a large number of enthusiests who are dying to get their hands on a yorkfield but refuse to buy an EE. so intel is losing those sales, at least. Unfortunently, enthusiests drive the market forward, not drive the market period.

Also, yorkfield is nothing but 2 wolfdales tied together. Anything that effects yorkfield should also hit the wolfdales. Same for the server chips, which are basically yorkfields too.
 
At least Intel is doing something about bugs, if it's true. You would all go ape shit if you bought one and your system kept crashing, so just go crazy that it's delayed.
