hello,

i need 600-700w PSU. of what is available i have:

Antec TruePower Trio 650W
ZALMAN 600W PSU WITH HEAT PIPES BLACK
NEXUS PSU REAL SILENT REAL 600W 80PLUS (NX-8060)
CHIEFTEC PSU ATX 650W PFC,80+,CABL.MANAG (CFT-650-14C)
CHIEFTEC PSU ATX 620W PFC 12CM BLACK (CFT-620A-12S)
Corsair 620HX

soooo, i was first going for Antec (it will be placed in Antec P182), but they told me Antec PSU quality has been bad lately.

Soooo i wonder again...

Thanks..

Corsair hands down. It's an excellent quality PSU that's quiet and offers plenty of power for most systems.

The corsair is built by seasonic, which means you know its going to be an excellent unit.

That Antec I BELIEVE is built by channel well, so It should also be a pretty good unit, not as good as the Seasonic, but still well within spec and certainly an excellent bargan.

The Zalmans are "meh". Average PSUs at average pricing.

and think I'd be better off using the 12V DC converter powering my speakers for my computer over a cheiftech. Actually thats not fair, I've never heard of chieftech, and usually that doesn't bode well for a PSU company. edit: actually I retract this statement. If the company is willing to show up at CES its products have to be decent. I haven't seen any reviews I would consider professional (really because the only professional PSU reviews I know of are done by anand, jonnyguru, x-bit labs, and, of course, [H]) on th is unit, So i'll reserve judgment.

but my real question is what is this PSU going to be powering?

what about OCZ?

this will be powering overclocked c2d for now, with 8800gt, 2xSATA raid, 2xOptical, and some pci cards, but in the future a overclocked quad will end up in this box, so i need expandability..

OCZ = FSP Epsilon, excessive ripple at high loads. Get the Corsair. :D

Well if you have the Corsair there and since you don't seem to care about modular cables, why not consider the PCP&C Silencer 610? It's actually somewhere within the price range of the Corsair unlike Mr. 150mv at the 12v rail Gamexstream*, sometimes cheaper :p .

*-for the 700 watt version, though the 600 should use the same OEM.

I wouldn't buy Antec. The last few have gone bad, started to smoke under light load.

The PC Power & Cooling Silencer series is all rated at 40C, the Corsair is rated at 50C, so the Corsair HX620 can put out more power considerably than the Silencer 610.

I think if you rated the Silencer 610 at 50C it'd be more like the Silencer 550. The Silencer 750 at 50C would be more like the Silencer 700 or something.

I'm not sure how far the power output really drops but it does drop significantly as temperature goes up. It's like those cheap $25 "500W" PSUs that are rated at 25C or something. Put those at 40C or 50C and they are suddenly 300W PSUs.
