Currently running the old A7N8X Deluxe, with a Barton 2500+.

Upgrading to an LGA 775/probably 530J. I'd like to stick with Asus, possibly Abit, Intel reference as a third choice.

Need some input on models/chipsets etc.

I'm probably going to order from the egg in the next week to 10 days.

I am mostly doing internet/office apps. running 2 SATA HDD's, 2 IDE HDD's, DvD burner, so I'll need connections for all those.

I also have a thread in video cards about upgrading there, currently a Sapphire 9600 Atlantis, which does all I have asked of it.

Replies here or PM appreciated.

Thanks again

LGA with a newer Intel chipset is going to require a PCI-E video card, which you'll probably get lots of "answers" about that in the video forum or AGP with the 865 chipset. You also have to decide if you want DDR1 or DDR2 RAM. The 915P can use either DDR1 or 2, but the 925X(E) only uses DDR2. DDR2 is more expensive. Other than that, I'm sure any of the different variety of ASUS boards would work fine for you. There's ones at several different price points. You're going to have to look at an additional IDE controller onboard since the Intel chipset only officially supports 1 IDE channel.

Just looking around the egg real quick, I found these ASUS boards as examples.

Intel 915P w/DDR1 support GbE (cheapest ASUS 915P w/ICH6R)

The 915G one looks like it will handle everything you wanted it to for a reasonable price ($100).

Also you could wait a little and see what the 945/955 chipset looks like. Should be out in a few months.
