XP file copy issue - out of space error

Heres the rundown, I have very little space on my C: drive, like 1.70GB, I have some large avis on another HDD drive K: ~4-5GB, I'm simply trying to copy those large files from K: to a new 500GB usb drive M:, it copies some of the smaller files, but on the large ones it keeps telling me I've run out of disk space, since that's impossible with 450GB free space on the usb drive, I'm thinking it has something to do with drive c:..I've cleaned up C: as much as I can but its a small partition and it's not getting any more free space... anyone familiar with this problem and how to resolve it?

I'm no expert on this so take the following with a grain of salt but you need a bit of space for file transfers on the C: drive.to temporarily store the file while it's being transfered to a new drive. That's just my speculation but just putting it out there.
