Xp-90 Troubles??

i got a p4 2.4 with a xp-90 Every time i attach the heatsink it doesn't make full contact, i can tell by the lines it creates with the AS5 that i use, it will have the outside lines but no as5 on the inside. anyone have this type of problem? i've tried everything to get it to seat properly and nothing works. im just about ready to give up on this heatsink and buy another one. i have an Abit ic7-G board 478chip. anyone reccommend anything that will be better then the xp90?

yes i applied it exactly like that, i also when ahead and spread it out myself with a credit card, and i only get outside lines from the as5, when i put a bb sized amount it will make contact but not very much.. not sure what the problem is.

Does the bottom of the HSF look warped or something? Maybe it's defective? The Vantec Aeroflow is a good HSF for P4 use too. I have one of those on my s478 northwood. I also have an XP-90 and it's better...it's just on my X2 .

nah looks pretty good to me. i just dont understand why it isn't making a solid contact. i had to glob on as5 just so it makes contact. when i mean glob, i mean a bb size in the center, and all 4 corners. just to obtain 36c and 28c ambient temps, this is clock from 2.4c to 2.8ghz if i dont do that method it will run at 40c when i spread as5 out with a credit card. i dunno. i used to have 31c temps and all of a sudden 36c temps+ oh well aslong as it dont hurt my comp, anyone reccommend the zalman 7000b?

Get a flat object like a utility knife or something and see if the base itself is flat or not. Lay the sharp portion of the knife (be careful not to scratch) on the base, see if any light gets through.
