Okay here is my new HSF, with a 120mm Panaflo M1A. Just one question it works great, for those who have the panaflo fan, do you plug yours directly into the MB or a molex plug?

Well I am still doing my CPU burnin so my AS5 can set in...But my loads from running it all last night was at 55°C, but I had mine OC from 2.2ghz to 2.6ghz....So I will post my temps when I get home, it's been almost 24 hours since I started my burn-in. And the fan is not that much louder than my Zalman 7000...
 
The HSF fitted like a glove, not touching anything...It was real easy in install, plus the HSF was lighter than I thought it was going to be...I think my Panaflo fan was heavier..Plus it cools my DDR memory....
 
Okay my idle temps are 37°C idle at 2.5ghz...Because I am downloading HL2 from steam....
 
yeah i got one of these do you have a good remidie of how to unistall it i have to sell the cpu from under it lol :) my temps with panaflo are 30 load with 3dmark 24 idle
 
Way too show off ur lexus key :D I love my XP-120....idling at 37C with my ambient temp ~70F and not sure about load, too lazy to check but its always < 50C. Temps change depending on where I set the thermostat (idle mostly).
 
Anyone have the experience of trying to take the xp-120 out when using AS5?

when I did... cpu came out with it!

I mated my xp120 with a silenX fan... quiet little bugger.
 
I have the same exact heatsink/fan combo and it works great. I have it on my AMD FX-55 and it brought the temps from Idle: 38C to 30C and Load: 45C to 35C. The best part is that its quieter than the stock AMD FX-55 heatsink/fan. No, the BEST part is how it dropped the temps in my case and my motherboard. I have an A8N-SLI, and it really helped me out temp wise!

Do you plug your panaflo into the mb cpu header or into a molex connector with the 3pin adaptor?
 
Does anyone running a Panaflo see the fan's RPMs in the BIOS/Windows Programs? Mine just shows up as 0RPM, but if I adjust speed thru CoreCenter, it speeds it up/slows i down. Meh, more for asthetic pleasure to see the fan's RPMs than anything heh.

How are you adjusting your fan speed in CoreCenter, is it that slider on the right hand side that says CPU??? Because I thought that was an alarm so when your rpm's fall under a certain rpm it would sound a alarm...But yeah my panaflo shows up as 0rmp....I guess there is no type of sensor...
 
Click on the word CoreCenter on the middle top of the program (I just happened to fall onto this option accidently, noone showed me so feel special ;)) and a menu will slide down that lets you either use Cool 'N Quiet, or adjust the fan speed manually (out of 8 speeds).

This is very simple guys, the vast majority of Panaflos out there have no RPM monitoring at all, they're really 2-pin fans (third wire's just ground or w/e). The mobo can still control it's RPM since all it does is lower or raise the voltage it gives the fan, but you don't have any way of monitoring it (other than your temps).

Note also that if you set the RPMs too low it may not start. I've got my Panaflo 92mm L1A plugged into the mobo... No problems so far, don't think it draws enough current for it to be an issue, a 120mm M1A/H1A might though. I'm actually gonna try plugging it into a molex today as my 12v rail has been low since I installed it last week (11.5-ish, it's Prime stable at that & 2.3GHz though, and BIOS reports it at over 12.00 so I dunno what to trust).

I doubt the fan's making it go so low but who knows, prolly just a PSU/mobo issue, and like I said, it's perfectly stable at the settings in the sig so...
 
Get a multimeter to check your 12v rails ;) Only way to really know what is going on in there....just get a cheap one and it'll do just fine. About to test mine out right now as I got my OCZ PowerStream in this monster tonight (had to remove the top fan on my case tho :(). 3.3v is really the only one you can trust in BIOS/Windows (this all being told to me from the Corn man).

As for a copper XP-120, hell no lol....that thing would weigh more than my Cadillac.
 
I don't have an XP-120 but my Panaflow M1A 120mm is plugged into the motherboard. I used it have it on a fan controller but I damaged it out so for now, it goes right into the board. Do you think the M1A is a little noisy at maximum speed? (~2100RPM). It's nice for the 87CFM though.

My Panaflo does have speed monitoring, which models do and which don't? Or is my motherboard mistakenly reporting the RPM number? It's definetely the correct sensor, because my 80mm case fans have a different RPM. I did notice though, that when I had my fan controller installed, and I set it to the lowest setting (~1000RPM), that there wouldn't be sufficient rotation for the fan sensor to function properly and it would say 0RPM IN motherboard monitor until I ran the winbond hardware doctor program that directly accesses the onboard winbond chip, then it would show the correct number, even at the lowest speed setting.

Haha, no doubt, with the heatpipes and amount of fins I'm sure it'd demolish the mark set by the Zalman 7700 and that's already a monster (over twice the recommended weight by AMD or something?). I'll look into the multimeter, someone else had already advised me to do it but I wasn't sure of pricing, thanks.

SpaceFlair if the mobo reports the RPMs for the sensor/plug that the Panaflo is connected to then yours does have RPM monitoring, yeah. I don't remember where was it I saw them for sale a while ago (one of the common mod shops), they're not common but not impossible to find I guess.

Usually if the fan doesn't provide RPM info the sensor would just read 0.
 
Yeah, my friend (well, two actually said the same thing) was crackin up and said "Man, that thing looks like it's an engine with headers." lol...still makes me crack up looking at them. I originally planned on getting the 7700cu from Zalman until I found out how much it weighs (well, copper in general compared to Aluminum). So from there, it was hello XP-120. :cool:

As for the multimeter, yeah, I think RadioShack has like $15 for a cheap one that would work fine, but the more you pay the more options you have...I spent $70 on mine because

A. The cheap one they had wouldn't work after the associate opened it up (I think he fucked it up to be honest) and
B. Idunno, knowing I don't have something atleast half-decent kind of irks me for one reason or another, so I ended up getting this:

That thing is WAY overkill....I can buy a thermal plug-in and check on-spot temps with it in either C or F lol....probably more than 50 options on that thing that I'll never use (execpt like for stereo installs...always wanted one for those). Either way, I'd advise getting one...Windows/BIOS reads them TERRIBLY incorrectly on my board. like im @ 12.00 or 12.01 (this OCZ doesn't really flucuate at all...maybe .1 so far at the most) with my 12v by reading directly off the PSU, but windows says 11.96....5v is 5.00 or 5.01 and it's reading 4.92 atm. And these look worse (if I remember correctly) in the BIOS...but I trust a direct plug into the PSU over an application ;)
 
The 120mm fan weighs a lot too. Personally, I don't like the idea of a huge deadweight hanging off my motherboard so I have the fan attached to a Zalman bracket. The fan is screwed onto a custom-built shroud that encloses and supports the heatsink so it takes most of the hanging weight and re-distributes it along the Zalman bracket to the case structure.
 
Yeah my 120mm fan weights a lot also...I might ziptie it just in case.... But the XP120 brackets seem to be okay, since I do not really move my computer that much...
 
i slam my case around in the car and drop it down on the floor.. with heavy coolers.. people worry too much.. as long as you didnt noob the installation its going to be fine unless you got a socket A mobo with socket hold down but even at that.. i had a slk-800 on my athlon and i didnt treat it any different than now and boy does it have inertia.... 50 lbs of it
