XFX warranty experience?

First system specs
6600 2.4 overclock @ 3.8 1.42v watercool
8 gigs DD22 pc-8600 gskill brand
1 x 4870x2 Sapphire with an Accelero Xtreme cooler
1 x 4870 XFX so crossfireX setup i guess
P5Q-E mobo
Corsair 850XT
etc.

Here's the story my 4870 1 gig XFX started going bad about 5 days ago. First it would completely disappear from the device manager & CCC for no reason I also notice a light turning on the D601 led. Searching the forum I found out D601 means "critical temperature fault" meaning its overheating? The video card was not overclock or volt modded or anything I ran it at stock speeds since i saw no reason to overclock it (I can run most games at high settings without issues with my current setup).

So after trying the card by itself with 2 different PSU's (my Corsair 850XT and a OCZ 700 PSU) multiple setups (running it by itself , switching pci-x lanes etc) I decided its time to send it to XFX.
My question to some of you guys who had dealt with XFX RMA dept, how long did the RMA process take& if they don't have a 4870 1 gig available what should I expect as replacement ?
I did search the forums & found a few bad experiences but seem like it was the user fault at hand. So any ideas what the D601 LED means? or experiences with XFX warranty? I know they're located locally I'm close to Los Angeles so the round trip to XFX shouldn't be too long.
Thanks

From what I saw on OCN, expect either a HD5770 or HD5830 as a replacement, if they don't have any HD4870 left.

Here's my overall experience.

I tried to RMA one of my HD4850's due to periodic system freezes where the fan would rev up to 100% out of nowhere (Windows desktop or in game, didn't matter what I was doing) and the red light on the PCB came on. After a few days of exchanging ticket updates, they finally issued me an RMA number, which I promptly sent out through the USPS Flat Rate boxes on 5/20/10, a Thursday. Since I'm in NJ and they're in CA, it took a few days to get to XFX but they received it the following Monday 5/24.

I gave it about a day and asked for an update on 5/25 since I had not heard back from them. They responded later that night that they received it and will process it through the RMA department. So I gave them a few more days.

Finally, after not hearing back from them for a little while, I asked them for any sort of update on 6/1. They didn't respond until 6/4, and that was only to tell me to expect an update shortly. But sure enough, a few hours later one of the agents gave me an update and found nothing wrong with the card. However, he did say that the department would send out a replacement anyways just to be safe and that if the problems persisted to check other my components. So in my book, that was awfully nice of them. :)

So they sent out my replacement card on 6/7 Fedex ground, and it finally arrived in my hands on 6/11. When I checked it, sure enough, it was a different serial number.

All in all, the whole process took a little over 3 weeks from the day I shipped out the card to the day I received a replacement, due to testing and shipping. The overall experience was positive, and since you have another card to use in the mean time it shouldn't be too bad. I will say that if I only had one card at my disposal and my computer was not usable because of it, then I would more than likely feel different about XFX's RMA process. But then again, 3 weeks turn around time seems to be about the norm in this industry for us East Coast states (since almost all of the manufacturers are out in CA). I recently had to RMA a motherboard with Gigabyte and a power supply with Corsair too and the turn around time was about the same - but they don't offer a ticketing system to get updates like XFX.

Seeing as how you're so close to them, you may have an even better experience overall. :)

Thank you for the replies guys much appreciated :)

That's one of my concerns at the moment, lets just say they send me a 5830 which will break my nice Xfire setup. I'm not sure what to do I can either keep my current 4870x2 and sell the 5830 and buy a used 4870 off the forums. Or vice versa sell my 4870x2 and pick another 5830 and call it a day( my current gaming resolution is 1920 by 1080 ).

and since you have another card to use in the mean time it shouldn't be too bad

exactly I'm not really stressing it out since I have my 4870x2 working fine I was just curious how well XFX RMA dept was. Glad to hear it went smooth with your RMA hopefully I get the same luck all fingers cross :D

I RMAed my 5870 and got back an OCed one. not entirely stable. turnaround time was so so. I am reserving judgment on this until I see what this replacement card does.

I had to RMA an 8800gs through XFX a year or so back. It was completely dead, so no arguments that it was working. Sent me a replacement without any trouble, took about 10 days total, which when you consider a couple days shipping each way, is pretty darn fast in my book.

If you're worried about getting the same card, I would make a note of it in your ticket or contact them through the phone directly to see if they can make sure you get back the same exact card. I have used their phone support before as well and from what I gather it seems to be pretty good (especially for the fact that you can always have something escalated to a supervisor if things are not going well).

If they tell you they are completely out of stock, ask them what your options are. I'm sure that they will work with you if you are willing to work with them. :)

8800GT sent from Canada to Cali. Got a faulty 8800GTX back. Had to send that back at my cost again. Finally received a working 9800GTX which I'd say is a decent upgrade on an 8800GT.

Total turnaround time was about 1.5 months but this was basically 2 RMAs because the first one I got back was defective and I had to go through all new tickets, etc. and I'm also in Canada and there are borders and customs issues.

I expect a shipment within Cali would be quick and painless.

Forgot to tell you guys what happen.
So the RMA process was slow took about 4-5 days of conversation with them to finally get an RMA number. Shipped it out on a Friday and got the replacement back the next Friday. I'm in Southern California about 40 minutes from their HQ so I was expecting a fast turnaround.
Anyways just like someone here on the forum suggested, I let them know I was running the xfx 4870 along my 4870x2 Sapphire so I would like the same card to be send back which they did.
They shipped out a brand new xfx 4870 seal with all accessories/box/etc so overall great service no complains :D;)

Yeah, good thing you let them know you were doing crossfire. I always see posts with people complaining about RMAs when they were too dumb to realize they should let the manufacturer know they were running dual cards and needed an identical one back...

ALTHOUGH because of the registration system, the vendor should have a heads up on what cards the user owns (assuming they are from the same company).
