Hi, I bought an XFX HD7970 Black 3GB edition (the original, not double-D), and am trying to reigster the product so I can use the RMA serivce since I am getting extremely bad flickering now (its within the 2-year manufacturer warranty). I've tried entering both the S/N and P/N into the website (http://www.xfxsupport.com/customer/regshipbarcode.aspx) and no luck. All I get is the (not so great English) statement:
"Shipmens barcode is not exist:181206006733"

WTH does this mean??

Anyone have any thoughts? I know XFX-folks check this board a lot.

Oh, I should probably mentioned I've tried EVERYTHING. From pulling the card out, using the mobo video card to remove all ATI drivers, then install the card, and use the latest WHQL Catalyst 13.4 drivers, and still have the same issue!

Welcome to the ever-changing world of XFX support! Were you at least able to create an account with a username and password and enter your personal information? If so, you are ahead of the game.

I had/have the same card I think--FX-797A-TNBC is the part no. Had terrible artifacting and went through the process of re-registering my account and the card. Had done this all before but XFX has made a lot of changes on the website so had to do it all over again.

I am wondering if you are entering the correct serial number--I have two cards and both serial numbers have letters in the serial number--the older card is N1Uxxxxxx and the newer card is N3Uxxxxxx. The number you entered looks more like a barcode number. Try to see if you can find the serial number--on my boxes it is printed in small letters underneath the S/N barcode.

Either way, I had good results from the RMA. Created the ticket and called the 800 number for XFX during their business hours (800-880-3225; 9-5 M-F PST; closed from 12-1). Spoke with both Kevin and Mark and they were quite helpful and apologetic for the changes taking place. Kevin created the RMA ticket as we spoke and sent a link with specific instructions on how to do the RMA. Said I should check with them again about 10 days after they received the card back for RMA. You pretty much need to register the card and create the RMA ticket before you call them I think.

I sent the card, they received it on 5/22, tested it 5/28 and could not repair. Issued a replacement and it was back to me on 6/7. I paid shipping to XFX, they paid return shipping. Pretty good turnaround time. Nothing went out the end of May due to Memorial Day holiday or the card might have been here sooner.

I'd say try to find a serial number with some letters in it and try registering the card again. Many folks had trouble trying to re-register their accounts so if you have done that then you are well on your way. If it doesn't work for you I'd just suggest calling the 800 number and perhaps Mark or Kevin can help you out. I can't complain at all about the service I got from XFX, just the inconvenience of having to re-register my account and my hardware but that was fairly simple. Had never done an RMA with any company before so had no idea what to expect.

Hmm...I didn't see any serial numbers starting with letters, but when I get home from work, I will look again and try.

Who are Mark and/or Kevin? Is there a way to get their attention on this one?

Thanks for the help so far though! Will try tonight again to see if I find the serial number on it. Sounds like I might have a chance to get this fixed actually. Spending $600.00 on a card though, my expectations of a company would be that they would address this. :)

Oh shoot, forgot to answer your first question. Yes, I was able to create an account on their support website.

Many people were having trouble setting up their user accounts and registering the hardware. XFX changed out their servers or something and all the old data was being moved over. At least you have been able to create an account.

Mark/Kevin are XFX tech support. They are known to visit various forums from time to time. One or the other has been on this one for sure a while back. If you can find the right serial number you should be able to register the card then create a ticket. Still a good idea to call them after you have created the ticket. If you can't register the card online then I would just call them anyhow and ask what you need to do.

Do you still have the box the card came in? The serial number is on that or if you don't, I can pull out the card that is back from RMA and look at the back and see where the serial number is located on the card itself.

Hello Ivan, thanks for contacting us via PM. At this time, all we need is a Ticket to get your RMA started, please PM me or wait for the support staff to issue the RMA via ticket. If you have any further questions, or anyone for that matter, please PM me or make a ticket at xfxsupport.com. Thank you

Ah, ha! I told you they were around. Stealthy and Ninja-like is XFX support. Expect you will be taken care of before long. Were you able to find a serial number that worked? Curious how this turns out.

Yup. Found the correct serial number and was able to register! Awaiting response now. You guys are awesome, thanks for the help!

Good deal. Hope the process goes as well for you as it did for me--never found out exactly what was wrong with my old card but one of the techs said probably VRAM was bad. There was a notation in my support account that the card failed to play Crysis so they replaced it. I was having terrible artifacting with dual monitors and that card should have pushed them easily.
