So bought an XFX 6850, used, re pasted it. Now it won't work, onboard video works. SO its not the system. Tried it in two other systems also. No go there either. Any Idea guys.
Thanks in advance

you must have over tighten the screw in the back. losen it up a bit, the four screws that holds the heatsink/gpu chip.

it happened with my 7950 too. when i added a Cross-bracket in the back. Over tightening it, it wont startup. So i loosen it a bit and it worked again.

What kind of paste did you use? Hopefully not a metallic one like AS 5... You should only use non-conductive, pastes on a GPU. I use Ceramique 2. If you strayed on your application of it you could have shorted something if it is conductive. Also, did you plug the fan back in, and are the power supply connectors in solidly?

May have been too liberal with the as5... I would remove the heatsink and clean the gpu with alcohol. Then use ceramique instead.

Awesome. Message sent

Good show on the part of XFXSupport. Glad to say my 2 cards currently in use are both XFX (5850 and 6870). I think I might have tried cleaning and applying Ceramique 2 before RMA (only because I hate waiting for things), but I will definitely support a company that offers help even before it's asked! Not to mention participation on this forum...
