Hi,
I'm evaluating investing in a Xeon processor (5500 Series) & mobo. What isn't clear to me is where Intel are on their roadmap as regards introducing new models and potential socket changes etc.

I don't want to be investing in the trailing edge of this particular technology curve if i can help it. At the very least i want to better understand the technology landscape looking ahead for Xeon.

All opinion and insights will be warmly received.

Regards,
Dave

beckton will introduce a new socket for xeon 75xx chips.
gulftown will continue with socket 1366 for 5600 and 3600 chips.

we do not know when/if sandy will bring new sockets. Some say its inevitable, *I* think its unlikely.
hint: the xeon landscape looks almost exactly like the core landscape. But with added beckton goodness.

gulftown H1'10, beckton, um, Im not really following beckton. Q4'09 or H1'10?
