XCOM: Enemy Within

Whoo! I was wondering if they were ever gonna release any more content for this game other than that weakass Slingshot dlc. Can't wait to fire up Ironman mode and watch my favorite trooper get sniped from across the map by thin men again. Bastards...

Might buy it but I think Xenonauts beta is shaping up to be a better game if you want Xcom revived.

This is a day 1 purchase from me!
TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

Xenonauts looks great, but the dev team is not that great.
At this point they are just trying to suck as much money as possible
from people like us. The last Alpha that I got to play was so full of bugs that I could not sit to enjoy the game, then they had promised a BETA release before the
2K X-Com release. 6 months later they still had not released a BETA.
Then when I called them out on it on their forum
they closed my thread and this is the PM I got from Chris the main Dev.

"As you think my efforts are "unprofessional", I suggest you make your own X-Com game. You seem to think that it is easy to build a game, particularly one the scale of an X-Com remake, and you clearly have no idea of the scale of effort that goes into it.

Frankly, I couldn't care less whether you "like it" that I've missed release dates or not. I said we were aiming for a release date, and then it turned out we couldn't get the work done in time. Even Valve and Blizzard miss release dates all the time. You've not even bought my game, why do you think I have any responsibility to you to hit the dates you want me to?

You're not even asking questions anyway, you just seem to come on my forums and then insult my project by telling me it's too slow and you're glad you've not bought it, and now you're insulting me. Great, thanks."

Does he realize that Gallop only had 4 people work on the original Xcom project.
CRY ME A RIVER CHRIS!!

Needless to say I will not be giving them a single penny.
Make sure you read the BUGS section of their forum before
you even think about purchasing that POS.

Well, if you think they are slow on development don't ever buy the indie beta game called Kenshi. It has been in development by one guy for 5 years or so and doesn't even have audio. I enjoyed playing Xenonauts more than XCOM: Enemy Within. The XCOM: Enemy Within combat system has a retarded restricted console type GUI that I think sucks on a PC.

Wh.. what? You played an Alpha and were upset about bugs?

yeah I'm confused by that as well.

X-Com Enemy Unknown was a great game (certainly with some blemishes), I can see fans of it buying the expansion. Personally though, I think I've had my fill of X-Com. On to different things!

Xenonauts is pretty cool. I'm just not going to spoil myself on it at this point. I'll play more when it is released.

Agreed on the UI system for Enemy Unknown, I didn't much care for it. I still enjoyed the game, though.

I understood the bugs and didnt complain to them about it cause I knew it was alpha.
What I complained about what the fake BETA release date in an attempt to bank on the popularity at the time. Never complained about the bug, but they did make the game unplayable and they were charging full price. Thats why I say check out the BUGS section before you buy it.

PS - We should stay on topic.

Seriously? This coming from the same person who said the following about the Infestation/WarZ devs

"Who gives a shit what the devs do or say?
Ohh no they called some one a fag!
Ohh no they lied!
Ohh no they didnt do what I wanted them to do?"

I'm curious, how did you play the game if they say you never bought it? I never paid full price, bought on Desura for $19.99 and now have Steam version for free too.

Im curious as well, how do you pay for a free steam version?

Anyone who bought it before it was released on Steam also got a free Steam key so there was nothing to pay. That way I can use Desura version for latest beta version and Steam version for latest stable version.

Hopefully they patch it up to make the game less about chance and more about strategy.

All I have to say is" WANT! WANT! WANT! WANT!

:D

Seriously, very glad to see a real expansion coming. I am a big fan of the new Xcom game. While it is a different flavour than the original (one of my all time favourite games) it is well done and I enjoyed the hell out of it. However the little DLCs they did so far were very, very, underwhelming.

The original games are some of my top favourites as well. Only got around to playing Enemy Unknown recently but really enjoyed it. I wasn't a fan of some of the simplified elements, namely one base assault, no base defense, and no simultaneous ufo attacks of varying ship size, but they were relatively small gripes.

I found this YouTube video with two of the team. Pretty interesting to see some of what they'll implement.

Wooo!

I've been playing Silent Storm to get my TBS fix since finishing XCOM. Withdrawals man!

Ohh man I cant belive I didnt know about ShadowRun Returns.
I still play the original from time to time, just recently too.

Im getting shadowreun returns when I get home.
Looks amazing.

I almost started a new thread. I didn't know about the DLC until today.

I don't game as much as I used to, but I have enjoyed XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I got an email from GameFly telling me that they're discontinuing their client in favor of dedicated downloads from their site.

I checked out their site and saw XCOM: Enemy Within has a release date of November 12th, 2013. Here's a cut and paste of what's new:

About the Game

XCOM: Enemy Within is the expansion to the 2012 Game of the Year award-winning strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Enemy Within adds an incredible array of new abilities, upgrades and weapons to combat new enemy and alien threats. This expansion also introduces new maps and missions, new tactical and strategic gameplay, and new multiplayer content providing a fresh new gameplay experience.

Key Features:
  • New Soldier Abilities: Construct the Genetics Lab to physically enhance your operatives’ abilities including augmentations to the chest, brain, eyes, skin, and legs or build the
  • Cybernetics Lab to enable the construction of the new Mechanized Exoskeletal Cybersuit, or MEC. The new MEC Trooper class has specialized abilities and each suit can be upgraded with new weapons including the flamethrower and grenade launcher.
  • New Weapons and Equipment: Give your operatives an extra tactical edge with new projects from your engineering team and the Foundry.
  • New Enemy Threats: Adopt new tactics to counter the threats from two new alien types and a deadly new organization known as EXALT.
  • New Strategic Resource: A valuable new alien resource, known as Meld, has been discovered. Secure it on the battlefield and use it carefully back at base to unlock new research and upgrades.
  • New Tactical Challenges and Maps: Cloak-and-dagger and intelligence operations provide new tactical challenges on over 40 new battlefields.
  • New Multiplayer maps, units, and abilities: Create your custom squad from a wider array of options and dominate your opponent in intense, one-on-one, turn-based matches.

Here's a short playthrough of the DLC on PC Gamer.

I'm debating whether to preorder. I probably won't as I've been burned by preorders before. Also, the Steam Christmas sale is coming up and I'm sure it'll be a lot cheaper by then.

It's currently $26.99 on Steam (regularly $29.99). I can get it for $20.24 with a coupon off the sale price at GameFly, but I don't think there's enough content to warrant the price. I can wait.

Anyone going to preorder and report back when it is unlocked?
