So I just got one and think it feels pretty nice, but here's the thing. The fact that it is wired ruins everything, especially when you're in a confined space like a computer desk. How the hell is there not a wireless dongle for it? I believe it uses similar technology as the 360 controller, so what gives?

I do really like how I don't have to worry about replacing batteries because of the Play & Charge kit, though. Does anyone know if you can do the same thing with the 360 controller for PC? If so, I may just buy that instead.
 
It uses Wifi Direct or w/e that shit is called. They would have to provide a separate receiver because you know, bluetooth isn't good enough or something. I would not expect to see that in the near future.
 
It actually doesn't use similar technology. The wireless technology is different, the 360 used some proprietary 2.4GHz signal to communicate. The xbox one controller uses Wifi direct.

I agree its a bummer, cuz that is whats stopping me from using an xbox one controller on my HTPC.

I wouldn't say that Bluetooth isn't good enough, but Wifi Direct is apparently a lower-latency method. There's probably a cost factor attribute to it as well.

For what it's worth, I use a wireless X360 controller on my PC and I wish I had just gotten the wired version every time I use it.

Yeah, I'm curious too...

I used a wired Xbox 360 pad for my PC for the last five years and finally 'upgraded' to a wireless one back in January. It's hands down one of the best changes I've made....

Having to change batteries is kind of sucky, but I have so many AA Eneloops around that it's not a huge deal.

The battery compartment/cover is beyond awful. I find that the batteries lose their connection to the terminals whenever I set it down or if it rumbles too aggressively. I believe they may have addressed that with the X1 controller, though. (Not that it makes any difference to us, since we can't use it.)
 
With the 360 controller I thought the wireless ones were too heavy. Thankfully the One controller is a lot lighter... but we don't have a dongle for it yet.

I don't think this every time I use it, but I do occasionally wish I hadn't sprung for the wireless version.

That being said, I've already replaced it with an xbox one controller. It's definitely cheaper feeling (even vs the already cheap feeling plastics on the "switchable D-pad" & newer versions), but the ergonomics are noticeably better, for me.

The fact that I don't have to buy some limited volume, proprietary cable (for charging; another completely archaic device for the wireless interface), anymore, is wonderful to me. I have plenty of micro USB cables lying around. Then if I want to use it on the xbox, plugging it in synchronizes it (like the PlayStation).

Now if only I could register my game profile and game saves to it... it would be the perfect portable party controller.

360 controller and the play and charge kit still requires the wireless dongle as the play and charge kit only does power to the controller.
 
Am I the only one that prefers the 360 controller to the xbox one?

Mainly its because of the xbox ones HORRIBLE shoulder buttons that seem to only want to "click" at the very top and not where your fingertips (well mine at least) normally rest on the controller. I have to take my finger and "reach" over to click on the shoulder button.

At first I hated the xbox one shoulder buttons. After some time with the controller I got used to it to the point where I actually like the xbox one controller better then the 360
 
It just seems like the buttons take WAY more force to "click" then any other button on the controller, and thus you can't "quickly" click it like any other button when you exactly need to.
 
I prefer the wired, especially when doing competitive online pvp in Dark Souls games. Wireless 360 controller for on the couch playing casually, though.

My mouse has a wire, too. It's pretty RAD.
 
Just bought an Xbox one controller to play some Ultra SF4.

Let me tell you, the dpad on the xbone is NIGHT AND DAY better then the xbox 360.

Glad I spent a whole $45 on the controller was totally worth it. All you need is a Micro usb to usb connection and you are good to go.

MSFT Also said they would release Bluetooth drivers later down the road for wireless play on the PC.

You cannot go wrong with the xbone controller.
