guys, according to the image down xbox 360 will be able to do:

Polygonkapacitet: 500 millioner/sekund

Radeon X850XT can do 780 MTriangles/s. are polygons/s = triangles/s ???

and

Shaderkapacitet: 48 milliarder shaderoperationer/sekund

Radeon X850XT can do up to 43 billion shader operations per second.

I'm not so impressed.

(Image removed. Please do not post magazine scans. The same info is posted here. Thanks -Steve)

what do you think???

I think I can't read German. :p

I don't think that the 360 will outperform the current generation of video cards, nor does it need to. At best it needs to run at 1080i which is a lot lower than running at 1600x1200.

Also games will be tweaked to run on the 360. Something thats hard to do on the PC because everyone has a wacky configuration.

I think with the PS3 design they are going to offload a lot of work to the CPU instead of having the GPU do all the work, the Xbox could be following suit or at least hoping too in some way, it would explain the drastic 3 3.3ghz processors in it possibly trying to use the same strategy as the PS3.

That said,
The 360 memory speed on the GDDR3 is rated at 700mhz as well, doesn't the 6800GT have 1000mhz GDDR3?

Still, it's pretty impressive for a console that will be released in less than half a year, makes any PC upgrades seem worthless to me ATM.

I think threads like this are pointless, because this is a console designed specifically for gaming, so performance is always completely different as compared to a PC. The current xbox is doing pretty good, and it has a P3 733, around the GPU equivalent of a Geforce 3, and 64MB of RAM. I'd like to see a pc with those specs run Halo 2, or even halo 1 at equivalent detail for that matter. Point is, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Numbers tell you very litlte, neither does hype, so wait until you see it in action before you judge it. There's no ponit in saying "OMG PS3 BEATS XBOX360 OMGWTF", because you've only seen the consoles on paper, which means absolutely nothing. Think of the hype put out about the PS2's emotion engine and the first xbox. Now, repeat with the current generation, and say to yourself "Were those accurate predictors? Just because the PS2 isn't as graphically powerful as the xbox (by the numbers), or even your current pc for that matter, have you stopped playing it? Does it make GTA: SA, God of War, or any of the other great games any less good? Do you still play halo 2 even though the xbox is less powerful than your pc with a 6800/X800 in it? I have a 6800GT, and I know i'd just as much play some Fight Night: Round2, Halo2, or Burnout 3 on my xbox as I'd play Half life 2, CS: Source, Far Cry, or any other game on my pc. Are Graphics the only thing that matter in a game? I don't think so. So screw the numbers and wait for the games. I'd much rather focus on other features, like backwards compatibility, the nifty media features (although they definitely won't make or break my console decision, they're still more worth looking at than system specs). All new systems will be pretty nifty, and I guarantee it'll come down to the games you play. End of story. Just my 2 cents.

and if you read the article , not only will it utilize threaded gaming but it has 3 cores each @ 3.2 and a 256GB/s memory bandwidth.

I think it will kill any system today when it's released.

Goodluck trying to compare it to an x850 ..

700mhz 1400mhz effective
6800GT is 500mhz 1000mhz effective.

Yes but i=interlaced.... so it's actually like half that 1920*1080 resolution as far as fill-rate needed (alternating evey other line drawn, then switch). I really dont care about the hardware argument, but trying to get into home theater a bit as I'm shopping for a TV. I think you're off. It's really not nitpciking.... because it looks like what you are actually comparing would be more like 1080p.

That is in danish
Det er på dansk(in danish)
Germany != Denmark ;)

Terra - A dane from Denmark ;)

better title would be R500 ~= X850XT

i found this interesing because many people were copmapring R500 with R600

I think the 700MHz is the Effective speed.

If you look at the memory bandwidth it's 22.4 GB/sec, which is right for 700MHz effective GDDR3.

256 GB/sec to the Embedded DRAM, 22.4 GB/sec to the local video memory

Well if it was not for us Yanks you would all be speaking German. :D

Yeah this is a big point. They definitely saved on costs by not using the uber fast memory generally found on current video cards...

And realistically for TV resolutions you can get away with slower memory, considering it has uber fast 10MB of embedded DRAM at 256 GB/sec as well especially.

Something must have gone wrong then ;) *L*

No, it's GDDR3 700MHz 1400 effective on 128 bit bus

BTW, slowest GDD3 is 500Mhz 1000 effective

ah...I assumed a 256 bit interface...128 makes sense though, since it's much cheaper than the 256bit variety...

Anandtech said it best...its significantly more powerful then any gaming PC on the market today.

I bet SLI 6800Ultras is faster at Doom3...:)

Even if it does have the technical specs and fill rate roughly equal to an X850XT...I challenge you to buy a 12x dvd drive, 20gb harddrive, wireless controller, psu, a high end cpu, and an x850xt for 299$ :p

And as was said, it is dedicated hardware, which means it delivers much higher quality graphics than its pc equivalent. (on average)

yeah I can't wait to see the games for this thing...do you think they'll have HD tvs setup in the local gamestop to show the system off?

Even if a only a 1920x540 field needs to be displayed, the video card still renders the entire 1920x1080 frame.

Yes the New core can do nless triangles, however, with the 10mb of EDram, as well as more pixel pipelines, it can do more, not to mention the advanced shader support

Wait a second, if it says it has PowerPC-based processors, doesn't that mean that it's the RISC architecture? Good Lord, 3.2Ghz * 6 on RISC?! Damn, that's a ton of power...

$299? Hah that's funny.

CDN Version will be about that, like all other consoles.

Console makers have diffrent buying prices, then consumers.

I bet they actually lose money on the consoles and then make money on the licensing for the games, etc.

Also, everyone almost always chooses to loose money selling consoles..

EDIT: beaten :)

You forgot the $10000 Home Theater System to watch the console on. ;)

Russia would have beaten Germany eventually, most likely, so maybe they's speak Grisish =)

I think the CDN price will be more than 299. Probably around 399 to 499 just like the PS2 launch price.

Didn't we go through this four years ago? Xbox360 looks great, no doubt. But It's too hard to compare console's to computers, reason being, they do different things. People shouldn't worry if Xbox360 is more powerful. We have another generation of GPU's coming and the cycle will keep going in circles like it has. I'd still personally rather have a SLI or X850XT setup for gaming than a Xbox360. ;)

I used to think that way but I'm a very social gamer and consoles are tops at that. And no I don't consider online gaming as 'socializing'. :p By next summer I'll probably have an xbox360, ps3 and a single-card g70/r520 pc setup.

Sigh, don't talk about what you don't know. It is using 700mhz GDDR3 which is rated at 1400mhz DDR effective. The reason the memory bandwith is a paltry 22.4GB/s is because of the memory controller's 128bit interface.

edit: Brent, proof: If you know something of semiconductor manufacturing, you probably know that a 256bit wide data path has serious transistor routing/signal integrity issues, as well as other complexity issues that creep cost up. Implementing a 256bit wide data path on a r420 is one thing, routing it on a mainboard is in a different ballpark. A 128bit bus is a simpler affair, especially since a 128bit mainboard memory interface is common. As far as the GDDR3 goes, what sense would it make for Microsoft to concoct a new GDDR3 spec? The slowest GDDR3 is rated at 500mhz/1000mhz DDR effective.
