xbox 360 jasper chipset

are there any of the older chip sets still out there if i purchase a new xbox 360 (was looking at the deal dell had for the $240 elite bundle) or if i buy one now can i be sure i'm getting a jasper?

my elite is having some major overheating issues. the ram chips are getting so hot it's not wise to touch them which is causing the two red lights. i have to keep a 12" fan on it with the case open to keep it cool enough to play. i don't want to buy a heat gun to not have that work and be stuck with no system and a heat gun. anyways that's why i'm looking for a new system with a warranty.


any advice would be appreciated

I'm pretty sure the non jaspers are flushed out. Just avoid any Fable II/Halo 3 bundles. A safe bet would be the ODST/Forza 3 bundles. I purchased an Arcade in August and another in December, both were jasper.

if it's new it's probably jasper but the only way to be certain is to be able to see the amperage on the back of the console, if it's 12.1 amps then it's jasper otherwise it's something else

Totally not related, but my launch unit died and I replaced it with what I am assuming is the latest chipset. Holy crap. The power supply is half the size and I swear it runs quieter.

My Falcon just 3/4 RROD'd on me. Didn't even get to play Darksiders properly yet. I'll have to buy an Arcade Jasper sometime.

jaspers have been out for close to a year now so unless you are buying a 360 that has cobwebs or a used console, you are not going to get anything other than that.

I believe Jaspers have been in production since April of 2008.

A dead ringer for a Jasper system is the power draw. If it's rated for 12.1A 12V and comes with a 150W power brick, you've got the revision you're looking for.

yes you can the older arcades stated 256MB card oncluded while the new ones (jaspers) obmit the card part and just state 256MB storage

I think the first Jaspers got into the retail channels in the second half of 2008, I'd be surprised if any popular/high turnover retailers still had pre-Jasper stock.
