Xbox 360 E74 Error

So I got an E74 error in the middle of playing CoD: Black Ops, and I was told I just need to replace the screws/washers on the clamps, and replace the Thermal Paste, so I found this kit on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HVO5O8/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A3DMEOGRJOXSM3 - and I wanna know if this is everythign I need. It looks like it to me. It has the Thermal Past remover solution, and the Purifier solution, that makes the new coat of thermal paste, apply better. And it comes with new thermal paste obviously, as well and enough screws and washers for both the clamps for the CPU and GPU. So this should be what I need right ? I've been building PC's and what not, most of my life, so I figured I would just repair this myself, but I just wanted to make sure I had the right parts.

Edit - the only thing that sucks about this kit, is that I already have the star wrench and other thing that allows me to open my xbox360 (had to get one, cause I modded my cooling system; Put in a whisper max fan, and then I set it up so the fan runs of its own power source, that way, I can turn my Xbox360 off, but still leave the fans going, til my LCD temp gauge tells me its at a safe temp, then I can flip the switch on the fans and turn them off. and also its hooked it all to a fan controller/temp gauge, so I can control the fan speed and know what the temp is on the CPU and GPU, pretty good idea if you ask me)

i've read multiple things about the e74 error. i've heard that it was a failure of a video processor which requires that it be replaced. i've also read that it can trigger on a peripheral error (including hdmi, usb, hdd and audio errors) which requires the mobo be replaced. i got an e74 a couple months ago and because of the vagueness or the error, i just sent it to repair.

E74= send to MS for repair if your console is still under warranty.......or if you have the tools and the knowledge, reflow the board yourself.. out of warranty =$115 incl shipping. new slim =$199+ tax or somewhere around $210-220 despending upon state.

The thing with the rrod is that unless you have a BGA reflow station the chances of fixing it for good are slim to none. It's worth the $10 to try but don't get you're hopes up. It's a problem with the solder cracking, not the heat sink that MS used.

This. But whoever told you that the E74 error can be fixed by a bolt mod is an idiot. The E74 error comes from the HANA video output and scaling chip malfunctioning. A friend a few doors down from me has an IR/hot air reflow station and we've redone several PS3 and XBox 360 systems with success. Perhaps we could help?

Out of curiosity how much did your friend pay for the reflow station?

It wasn't pocket change, about $300-400 used I think, but I'm not sure. Still it's stupid cheap for SMT rework equipment.

I have two xclamped e74 xbox running over a year now, used weekly. One is a mediacenter, the other my son plays castle crashers on. No problems. Id say 10 bucks for a year fix is worth it to me.
