I was just starting to play DiRT 2 and my wired XBOX 360 controller stopped working all of a sudden. Now when I plug it in, I get the message:
USB device not recognized
and it's reported as code 43
I've tried installing the official Microsoft driver, though that seems horribly unnecessary. I've tried uninstalling everything under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in the device manager, but that didn't do anything. I turned the computer off and turned off the power supply for a couple minutes. Nothing has helped.
I just tested the controller with my laptop, and it's not working on that anymore either. Is it possible that the controller itself needs to be "reset" somehow? Or is it just broken? I just tested my Street Fighter IV gamepad on both computers, and it still works fine, so I'm leaning towards thinking there's a major problem with the standard xbox 360 controller itself. Any last ditch reset ideas? Or should I really just get a new controller? It just feels like it would be such a shame to have to get a new one since it's still in pristine mechanical condition.
I'd really appreciate any insights. Thanks!
