Hey all,

I have a new Xbox 360 slim connected to a Dell U2410 monitor using the hdmi ports on both. The monitor has a 3.5 headphone jack (audio out) which I have been using... but the audio is horrible through that port. Is there a way to get audio directly out of the xbox 360 while still using the HDMI port? Basically, I just want to jack my headphones right into the xbox but I only see a optical link audio out there.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Not sure if the slim has optical out built in or if you need the hd audio adapter, then if you have some tritton's or whatever headphones that have has its own amp you just run the optical from the 360 into that.

Get a really cheap receiver with an optical input.

i can use both the HDMI and the optical adapter at the same time on my jasper, I do not see why the slim would be any different

He does not want to use the optical. He wants to use the RCA audio, which on the xbox slim you can only use with HDMI if you crack the plastic casing around the RCA adaptor. After you do that, you can plug it in, use both HDMI and RCA, but use the adapter I linked to to convert the RCA to a 3.5 mm audio jack for his headphones

why would you have to crack the plastic? I was able to plug my adapter in while using HDMI without any issues, this trick also works with my VGA cable adapter and HDMI cable plugged in at the same time.

so cracking the plastic and using an adapter works (you have to crack the plastic because otherwise both cables won't fit)... but with this setup whenever I switch inputs on my monitor my xbox restarts... this is not good as I switch alot... any clue how to fix this?

thinking of just getting this if not...
