X850XT problem

my friend's friend got a X850XT from bestbuy, he install it and load the latest driver, when he use the ATI tools to check out the card spec, there are only 8 pipelines active. :eek: :eek: :eek: since it should be 16 pipeline active ....

(his X850XT is PCI-Express)

For those of you who own a X850XT, does this happen to you guys?
 
I doubt then that it is truly an X850XT. It is probably a returned item that was swapped out with a less expensive card in order to keep the X850XT. I have heard of this happening all the time at retail stores, which don't really check to make sure of what a card is, nor are they trained to.

This has happened quite often that I have seen. When I used to work at futureshop I was the ONLY one working who knew that the card that came back in the 9800Pro box was a 9700Pro.....most salespeople aren't gonna know the difference, card is most likely not an X850XT....I advise he returns it under those grounds.
 
wow, that's sad lol..anyways, go test it on 3dmark05 or 03, and tell us ur scores, if u score in 3dmark05 3000 or 3dmark03 7000 I am gonna lmao.

happened to me at officedepot. I picked up a geforce 5900 pci card and a oem compaq card was inside. They wouldn't do anything about it either

Thats when I send in a serious complaint as high up the ladder as I can and take my business elsewhere....because I've never seen service that bad, or management/customer service that ignorant...

Doesent it say wha type of video card it is on the back of the card ?

Well Circuit City has no Tech Department so you can pretty much take back a Box of rocks on a return and get your money back.
 
wow, this is sad, rma that thing or return it for a real one...god, it's probably a 9800xt :) lol..since my old 9800xt got around 7k too hehe
 
It's difficult to mistake an x850 xt for anything else - it is the only ATI card that uses a dual-slot cooler beside the xt pe.

just go on Newegg and look it up, once you see it you'll definately know for sure, as previous poster said, no mistaking that card..... Dual slot cooler- covers PCI slot adjacent to the PCI-E slot.....

Before screaming bloody murder at Best Buy, make sure you're using the latest beta of ATiTool, the older ones recognize all X850 cards as 8 pipelines, I know, I have a BBA Radeon X850 XT Platinum (AGP). Make sure AA and AF are set to application preference before running 3Dmark. Check the clock speeds and core of the card, check the serial number sticker on the back with ATi.

It's possible that someone wedged the dustbuster off the X850 on to a lesser card. If he did end up getting a card that wasn't the X850, go absolutely NUTS on best buy, make a scene, a big one, they may even give you a price break and a replacement. Good luck, it's a damn shame that pricks still choose to scam big box stores for computer hardware which just drives the price up. If everyone that used Windows XP had actually bought it, it would only be like $30.

Hey dude get the latest version of ATI tool, it's a bug with the older versions of ATI tool not properly recognizing the X850XT's. I had the same problem with ATI tool ver. 0.23 then installed the new ATI tool ver. 0.24 rel 10 and now it sees all 16 pipelines and I am running the card at 540 / 594.

Yes it did. The person removed the stickers(serial number, model number) from the geforce card and placed them on the compaq card. I called pny and they said they wouldnt do anything either.
