I'm building a computer for my friend, and I was wondering if the X800XL needed to be connected to a power line, just like my 6800Ultra does, or do you just stick it in the slot, and thats it? What are the temps I should be looking at for an X800XL at stock, idle and load.

Some x800XL's need the power connector, but usually a PCI-E card can grab its power directly off the mobo. Here's a Connect3D x800XL PCI-E for $260 at MonarchComputer That one doesn't need a power connector, but that doesn't mean you can slack off by using a cruddy PSU. With the stock cooler, you should be looking at 40-50C idle and up to the 60C's load (that's how mine was in the blazing hot valleys of Southern California).
 
Thanks for the reply, thats the X800X I got for my friend for his new computer, and when I was building the other day, I noticed it didn't need a power connector, and I knew not too slack off on the PSU ;)
 
the AGP ones all need a power connector.

Min idles at 38 and hit 52 max, becuase I use Ati Tool to be aggressive with the fan control.

Me too, but I hope you don't have yours on 100% 24/7 :eek:
